Baritone Horn TC,Euphonium,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552857 Composed by Edvard Grieg. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards,World. Score and part. 18 pages. Jmsgu3 #3511309. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552857). Duration: ca. 2:17 Score: 10 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 5 pages. A proven audience pleaser - perfect for a recital encore!Grieg Background In the first place, Edvard Grieg (1843 –1907) was a Norwegian composer as well as a concert pianist. As a matter of fact, most music historians consider him one of the foremost Romantic era composers. Consequently, his music is part of the international standard classical repertoire. Grieg moreover used Norwegian folk music in his own compositions. Consequently, he ushered Norwegian music to transnational consciousness. Furthermore, he forged a national musical identity for Norway. It is important to realize that he did this in a manner similar to Jean Sibelius in Finland, and Bedřich Smetana in Bohemia. Legacy Grieg is especially celebrated in the city of Bergen. For example, the city has erected numerous statues depicting Grieg. Specifically, the city has named a concert hall (Grieg Hall), a music school (Grieg Academy) and a professional choir (Edvard Grieg Kor) after him. As a matter of fact, there is also a museum located at his former home in Troldhaugen. Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 (Op. 46) Grieg wrote incidental music for the purpose of illustrating a play by Ibsen known as Peer Gynt. The play includes, in particular, the famous selection entitled, In the Hall of the Mountain King. In this composition, Grieg indeed depicts the exploits of the scoundrel, Peer Gynt. In one famous episode, for example, Peer steals a bride at her wedding. For this reason, the people chase him, but soon Peer falls, thereupon striking his skull on a boulder. He wakens forthwith in a highland bounded by angry gnomes. Consequently, the music of In the Hall of the Mountain King represents the mad gnomes taunting Peer. Therefore, each time the theme repeats it gets louder and faster. In the end, Peer surprisingly escapes from the mountain. Holberg Suite and Misc. Summary It must be remembered that Grieg originally wrote his Holberg Suite for the piano. In other words, he only later arranged it for strings. Further, Grieg composed by and large many songs with lyrics by famous writers such as Heine, Goethe, Ibsen, Hans Christian Andersen, Rudyard Kipling, and others. On balance, Norwegian pianist Eva Knardahl recorded altogether Grieg’s whole piano catalog on LP in 1980. These recordings were released again on CD in 2006. In any event, Grieg himself performed and recorded the bulk of these pieces toward the end of his life.

Klavier (für Die Papiertragödie mit Papierbögen präpariert) 2 singers and piano - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q45180 Scenic miniatures. Revised version for two singers and piano. Composed by Wilfried Hiller. This edition: single sheet. Downloadable, Separate edition. Duration 60 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q45180. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q45180). German.'Our theatre is not like other theatres … we count on your participation, Ladies and Gentlemen!' These words from the prologue of the theatre singer are typical of our flea market of dreams. The audience shall be encouraged to think, dream, fantasize. (Wilfried Hiller in the programme of the world premiere) Without explicitly meaning to, the flea market and amusement racket theatre of Hiller and Ende has to be understood as alienation from the great opera in general and for children in particular. Here, imagination finds old and new stories, here is the home of the theatre, here is the place where the 'extravaganza music of Hiller' can be heard. Here is not just melancholy and remembrance, sorrow for things past, lost. Here, dawdling also has another meaning: silence, standstill, leisure, time – for dreaming. Jumble, dawdling – these are things that do not go well with the rush and urge for action of our time. But they suit the theatre, the music for children, the children's music theatre of Hiller and Ende.' (from: Gunter Reiß, Trödelmarkt der Träume […]; in Üben & Musizieren, 2/1991, p. 19ff).

Small Ensemble Harp,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.799604 Composed by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 4 pages. Nicole Elyse DiPaolo #3417119. Published by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo (A0.799604). This short song was composed in 2012 during my doctoral coursework at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music. It was written for tenor, but given its accessible range (Db4 to G5 in the original key), it would work well for lighter voices in many fachs, including light lyric sopranos, baritones, and mezzos. The text, translated from a poem by Takuboku Ishikawa (1886-1912), is gender-neutral. This would be a great introduction to new music for an undergraduate singer with strong aural skills and a still-light voice (since young dramatics might overpower the harp). If you'd like to talk about commissioning a transposed score, please get in touch! Transposition options will be a bit more limited with the harp than with the piano, but I'm sure we could make something work.Poem text (in English translation, as it appears in the score)Setting sun, Drifting clouds, New moon, Evening twilight, What do they matter to me?Composer biography:Nicole Elyse DiPaolo is a versatile composer, teacher, collaborative pianist, and music theorist currently based in Bloomington, Indiana. Currently a PhD candidate in music theory at Indiana University, she recently completed a doctoral minor in composition, having studied with Claude Baker, Don Freund, P. Q. Phan, and David Schneider. She also holds a B.Mus. from the University of Michigan, where she studied composition with Bright Sheng and piano with Louis Nagel. Nicole's music has been heard across the world: along with numerous performances in the Midwest, her commissioned song settings of Muscogee poet laureate Alexander Posey's texts have been performed at Shorter College (GA) and Lincoln University (PA), and the Smithsonian Institution procured copies of two of these (Nature's Blessings and A Vision) to archive at the National Museum of the American Indian. Additionally, Nicole's viola duo Three Episodes was featured at Ball State University's 40th Annual New Music Festival in February 2010. Her early compositions have been garnering interest as well: music students in Kenya performed several of Nicole's such pieces in May 2013 through a pedagogical project spearheaded by IU faculty member Kimberly Carballo. Nicole's music also received its Mexican premiere in October 2013 with a performance of her Divertimento, written for the International String Quartet of Yucatán. In 2014, Nicole published a set of twenty short pedagogical pieces in uncommon keys, entitled Venturing Beyond, available on SheetMusicPlus. Also a sought-after teacher and adjudicator, Nicole frequently judges regional and divisional MTNA composition competitions at all levels, ranging from elementary to college-level Young Artists, and she also served as the composition department chair at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in 2014. Percussion Trio Marimba,Vibraphone,Xylophone - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1251447 By Johann Sebastian Bach. By Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Marcelo Borba. Classical,Historic,Renaissance,Sacred,Traditional. 5 pages. Marcelo Borba #845735. Published by Marcelo Borba (A0.1251447). Creative arrangement for percussion trio (xylophone, vibraphone and marimba). The arrangement contains individual parts and the chords of the song. The Musette in D major (Musette in D major, BWV Anh 126) is a small musical composition attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach. However, the authorship of this composition is uncertain, and some scholars suggest that it may not have been actually written by Bach. The piece is a musette, which is a type of French folk dance characterized by its gentle and graceful rhythm. The composition is written in triple meter (3/4) and features a charming and delicate melody typical of dance pieces from the Baroque period. The Musette in D major is often performed on keyboard instruments such as harpsichord or piano. It is one of the best-known pieces attributed to Bach, despite the doubts about its authorship. It is important to note that due to the uncertainties surrounding the origin of this specific composition, some modern editions of Bach's catalog may not include it. However, it is still popular and continues to be enjoyed by lovers of Baroque music.

Small Ensemble B-Flat Clarinet,Bassoon,Oboe,Tenor Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.799462 Composed by Drake Mabry. Contemporary. Score and parts. 24 pages. Drake Mabry #1989261. Published by Drake Mabry (A0.799462). Three Painters was a 2008 commission from the Conservatory of Music in Chalons, France. Each of the three movements is inspired by some of my favorite painters, in this case Yves Klein, Zao Wou-ki and Jackson Pollock for the first, second and third movements respectively. I first saw Yves Klein work on a visit to Balbao, Spain during an exhibit of his art at the Guggenheim Museum. There was a kind of giant sandbox filled with his famous blue pigment. The lighting created timbral shadows which varied depending on where the viewer stood. It was difficult to leave. I first saw Zao Wou-ki's paintings during an exhibit in Paris around 2000 – I don't remember where. The abstract shape and colors fascinated me and each work seemed to explore a different emotional perspective. And they were simply beautiful. In 1967 I began my music studies in New York and within a few months of arriving went to the Museum of Modern Art at W. 53rd street. On the way there I crossed paths with Moondog on the street near the museum dressed in his Viking outfit. From my first visit, the two artists I remember most vividly were Jackson Pollock and Alexander Calder. Jackson Pollock's art washed over my senses and I stared at One: Number 31 1950 for what seemed to be hours. And Calder's mobiles danced in slow motion and also captivated me. Someday I will write a work to pay homage to him. Three Painters depicts what I see in the works of these artists as sound over time. The first movement (Yves Klein) explores the subtle changing orchestrational timbres on the pitch 'F'. The second movement (Zao Wou-ki) uses the instruments without their reeds and/or mouthpieces resulting in waves of air sounds washing over the senses. The Third movement (Jackson Pollock) is a jazz-like romp which transfers his vibrant visual energy to a full-blown big band style played by the ensemble. The duration is 12 minutes.Three Painters was premiered by an ensemble conducted by Philippe Cambreling at the Auditorium, CRR de Chalon sur Saône, France on March 22, 2009.

Bass Flute,Instrumental Solo,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.551495 Composed by Edvard Grieg. Arranged by James Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Halloween,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and individual part. 61 pages. Jmsgu3 #5306289. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.551495). DESCRIPTION1. Morning Mood, 2. Ase's Death, 3. Anitra's Dance, 4. In the Hall of the Mountain KingGrieg BackgroundIn the first place, Edvard Grieg (1843 â??1907) was a Norwegian composer as well as a concert pianist. It is important to realize that he did this in a manner similar to Jean Sibelius in Finland, and BedÅ?ich Smetana in Bohemia.LegacyGrieg is celebrated in the city of Bergen. For example, the city has erected numerous statues depicting Grieg. Specifically, the city has named a concert hall (Grieg Hall), a music school (Grieg Academy) and a professional choir (Edvard Grieg Kor) after him. As a matter of fact, there is also a museum located at his former home in Troldhaugen.Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 (Op. 46)Grieg wrote incidental music for the purpose of illustrating a play by Ibsen known as Peer Gynt. In the end, Peer surprisingly escapes from the mountain.Holberg Suite and Misc. SummaryIt must be remembered that Grieg originally wrote his Holberg Suite for the piano. In other words, he only later arranged it for strings. Further, Grieg composed by and large many songs with lyrics by famous writers such as Heine, Goethe, Ibsen, Hans Christian Andersen, Rudyard Kipling, and others. On balance, Norwegian pianist Eva Knardahl recorded altogether Griegâ??s whole piano catalog on LP in 1980. These recordings were released again on CD in 2006. In any event, Grieg himself performed and recorded the bulk of these pieces toward the end of his life.

Super-famous instantly recognizable tune, not very difficult - suitable for a recital or church meditation. Very effective on the Oboe d'Amore! Grieg Background In the first place, Edvard Grieg (1843 –1907) was a Norwegian composer as well as a concert pianist. As a matter of fact, most music historians consider him one of the foremost Romantic-era composers. Consequently, his music is part of the international standard classical repertoire. Grieg moreover used Norwegian folk music in his own compositions.  Consequently, he ushered Norwegian music to transnational consciousness. Furthermore, he forged a national musical identity for Norway. It is important to realize that he did this in a manner similar to Jean Sibelius in Finland, and BedÅ™ich Smetana in Bohemia. Legacy Grieg is especially celebrated in the city of Bergen. For example, the city has erected numerous statues depicting Grieg. Specifically, the city has named a concert hall (Grieg Hall), a music school (Grieg Academy), and a professional choir (Edvard Grieg Kor) after him. In this composition, Grieg depicts the exploits of the scoundrel, Peer Gynt. In one famous episode, for example, Peer steals a bride at her wedding. For this reason, the people chase him, but soon Peer falls, striking his skull on a boulder. Further, Grieg composed many songs with lyrics by famous writers such as Heine, Goethe, Ibsen, Hans Christian Andersen, Rudyard Kipling, and others. On balance, Norwegian pianist Eva Knardahl recorded altogether Grieg’s whole piano catalog on LP in 1980. These recordings were released again on CD in 2006. In any event, Grieg himself performed and recorded the bulk of these pieces toward the end of his life. Â

Piano Quartet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1397796 Composed by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. 19th Century,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Romantic Period. 104 pages. Jmsgu3 #981065. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1397796). The Second edition features more textural variety and interplay between the strings and piano.Mussorgsky is known for his ability to evoke vivid pictures through his music. He creates soundscapes that transport listeners to other places and times. Using complex harmonies and shifting tonalities, Mussorgsky creates sonic paintings that are as diverse and varied as any works of art in a museum. He takes listeners on a journey through different landscapes and environments, ranging from pastoral settings to the underworld depths. In his famous suite, Pictures at an Exhibition, Mussorgsky gives each movement a title referencing a painting, sculpture, or architectural feature from an art museum. The suite is composed to capture the moods and emotions the artworks evoke. From the bright and energetic Promenade to the somber and mysterious Catacombs, Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition paints a vivid sonic landscape that brings the listener into the art museum. The composition was inspired by a visit to an art exhibition featuring the works of Mussorgsky's friend, the Russian artist Viktor Hartmann. The Pictures at an Exhibition pieces aim to capture the sketches, watercolors, and architectural designs displayed at the exhibition. Mussorgsky links the suite's movements to depict the viewer's progress through the exhibition. Two Promenade movements serve as portals to the various pictures, representing the composer himself strolling through the exhibition. Mussorgsky and Hartmann were devoted to the cause of an intrinsically Russian art, and their friendship likely developed in the home of the influential critic Vladimir Stasov, who followed both of their careers with interest. Mussorgsky's original composition is known for its multi-layered music imbued with energy and vitality, requiring the performer to move between soothing melodies, humorous tunes, and pounding rhythms. The suite's diverse range of musical styles and moods is a testament to Mussorgsky's skill as a composer.Pictures at an Exhibition (Картинки Ñ Ð²Ñ‹Ñтавки) by Modest PetroviÄ Musorgskij, 1874(МодеÑÑ‚ Петрович МуÑоргÑкий) Arranged for Piano Quartet by James M. Guitar - Advanced - Digital Download SKU: ZY.DO-1531 Composed by Atanas Ourkouzounov. Score. 16 pages. Les Editions Doberman-Yppan (digital) #DO 1531. Published by Les Editions Doberman-Yppan (digital) (ZY.DO-1531). The piece Chronicles of Thamyris was written at the request of Greek guitarist Sotiris Athanasiou for his recording project with pieces based on Greek mythology.I chose the myth of Thamyris who was a musician of Thracian origin. In each movement I imagined an episode of this myth. The first movement is composed as a narrative. The second, as the title indicates, is the episode of the competition between Thamyris and the Muses. In the third, according to the myth, Thamyris will become blind and will break his lyre. The last movement is an imaginary dance from his native Thrace.
