This sheet music is notated for 13-note (one octave, C to C chromatic scale) instruments with Handbells on one staff and Boomwhackers® on a second staff creating an instrumental ensemble (requires one set of each instrument). Handbells play the melody while the Boomwhackers® keep a steady beat with three-note chords. Both the melody and rhythm have been simplified from the original to make it easier to learn and perform.Included in this set of scores is a combined score with both instrument parts on a grand staff plus a separate score for each instrument. A note and chord reference chart is also provided. To aid in the learning and teaching of this song or for use with other instruments (such as a Ukulele), chord names are included. Lyrics are also provided on the grand staff and handbells staff for sing along enjoyment.Two copies of each score are provided. The scores are identical except one uses color coded noteheads and the other uses black and white noteheads. The score with colored noteheads corresponds to the Boomwhackers® color scheme. If you have a set of bells or tubes with a different color scheme, Chroma-Notes Stick Ons can be purchased and applied so the instruments match the Boomwhackers® color scheme. Using color coded notes helps beginning musicians learn to read standard sheet music notation. The score with black and white notes will print clearer if you do not have access to a color printer or have a group of players already familiar with reading music notation.Only filled noteheads (quarter and eighth notes) are used so the notes are full color and easier to distinguish (this does not indicate the bells need to be silenced immediately before the next beat). Also, only quarter rests are used to help visualize the number of beats per measure. All voices take up the solo passage, the cello commenting. The voices go into canon at the half measure, the cello continues with its own melody. The piece returns to unison and ends quietly. He produced less music in the choral style of the Gabrielis, which is perhaps why his music is less well known than theirs today. In the liner notes of the album In Time: The Best Of REM 1988-2003, REM’s guitarist Peter Buck writes that the reason the lyrics are so atypically straightforward is because it was aimed at teenagers, and I've never watch ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’, but the idea that high school is a portal to hell seems pretty realistic to me. It’s a wonderfully simple song to play but less easy to sing convincingly. As with Eternal Flame a simple second guitar part can be added by strumming the chords on the off beats (beat 2 & 4). Although the guitar part is scored in 6/8 which makes it easier to read, the song is really a slow 4 to a bar, one bar per chord. The time signature of 12/8 gives the music a bit of a lilt and gives rise to the slightly off-beat accompaniment patterns. The piece should sound relaxed and 'laid back' all the way through. The melody should, of course, be given prominence throughout.
