Sampler - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1354408 By David Warin Solomons. By David Warin Solomons. Contemporary. Full Performance. Duration 261. David Warin Solomons #939127. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.1354408). Instrumental version of my improvisation on Louis MacNeiceis Bagpipe MusicThe original poem is: It's no go the merry-go-round, it's no go the rickshaw,All we want is a limousine and a ticket for the peepshow.Their knickers are made of crêpe-de-chine, their shoes are made of python,Their halls are lined with tiger rugs and their walls with heads of bison.John MacDonald found a corpse, put it under the sofa,Waited till it came to life and hit it with a poker,Sold its eyes for souvenirs, sold its blood for whiskey,Kept its bones for dumb-bells to use when he was fifty. It's no go the Yogi-Man, it's no go Blavatsky,All we want is a bank balance and a bit of skirt in a taxi.Annie MacDougall went to milk, caught her foot in the heather,Woke to hear a dance record playing of Old Vienna. It's no go your maidenheads, it's no go your culture,All we want is a Dunlop tyre and the devil mend the puncture. The Laird o' Phelps spent Hogmanay declaring he was sober,Counted his feet to prove the fact and found he had one foot over.Mrs Carmichael had her fifth, looked at the job with repulsion,Said to the midwife 'Take it away; I'm through with overproduction'.It's no go the gossip column, it's no go the Ceilidh,All we want is a mother's help and a sugar-stick for the baby.Willie Murray cut his thumb, couldn't count the damage,Took the hide of an Ayrshire cow and used it for a bandage. His brother caught three hundred cran when the seas were lavish,Threw the bleeders back in the sea and went upon the parish. It's no go the Herring Board, it's no go the Bible,All we want is a packet of fags when our hands are idle. It's no go the picture palace, it's no go the stadium,It's no go the country cot with a pot of pink geraniums,It's no go the Government grants, it's no go the elections,Sit on your arse for fifty years and hang your hat on a pension. It's no go my honey love, it's no go my poppet;Work your hands from day to day, the winds will blow the profit. The glass is falling hour by hour, the glass will fall for ever,But if you break the bloody glass you won't hold up the weather.

The Hebrides Overture (Fingal's Cave) for woodwind ensemble

(+)
Small Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.956662 Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by Catriona Melville-Mason. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 127 pages. C Melville-Mason #6735335. Published by C Melville-Mason (A0.956662). This is an arrangement of Mendelssohn’s overture The Hebrides (Fingal’s Cave), intended for a medium-sized woodwind group of perhaps 20 – 30 players. It has been categorised as ‘advanced’, as the length and tempo of the work make it quite challenging. However, provided the main parts are covered by competent players, those with less experience can either double, judiciously omitting any problem sections, or opt for the appropriate ‘easier’ add-on part. This is great fun to attempt, even if your ensemble may not manage it up to performance standard! The piece is scored for the following instrumentation: Essential Parts: Part 1: Flute Part 2: Flute Part 3: Oboe Part 4: Clarinet in B-flat Part 5: Clarinet in B-flat (contains essential divisi, so minimum of 2 players essential) Part 6: Clarinet in B-flat Part 7: Clarinet in B-flat OR Part 7: Alto Saxophone Part 8: Alto Saxophone Part 9: Alto Saxophone Part 10: Bassoon OR Part 10: Bass Clarinet in B-flat (low C instrument essential) Optional add-ons: Easier Flute/Oboe Low Clarinet in B-flat Easier Alto Saxophone Easier Tenor Saxophone Mini-Bassoon in F (an extra, NOT an easy, part) Easier Bassoon Mendelssohn visited Scotland in 1829 and, after a tour of the Highlands, travelled by steamer from Fort William to Oban and thence to the Hebridean island of Mull. From there, he made the short boat trip to the small island of Staffa, to visit Fingal’s Cave – a sea cave formed of hexagonal basalt columns, with a highly intriguing natural acoustic. The Hebrides overture was inspired by this segment of Mendelssohn’s Scottish travels. The work is an early example of a tone poem: a musical representation of the scenery, wind and weather of the Scottish Hebridean islands, reflecting their sudden and infinite changeability. After some revisions, the overture received its first performance in May 1832 and remains a favourite with audiences to this day. It has been central in establishing – and sustaining – the popularity of Fingal’s Cave as a tourist destination. This arrangement was originally created for a woodwind course held on another Scottish island – Skye, which is the largest and most northerly of the Inner Hebrides.

Small Ensemble Horn,Piano,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1503872 Composed by Elizabeth Raum. 20th Century. 73 pages. Gordon Cherry #1079324. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.1503872). Rome's Pantheon, based on Greek mythical legends was first constructed over 2,000 years ago as a temple of all the gods. In the year 609, it became a Catholic church.Pantheon for Violin, Horn, and Piano by the great Canadian composer Elizabeth Raum is a seven-movement suite of chamber music depicting various of the Greek gods:1. Eos: Goddess of the Dawn2. Moirae: Gods of Fate3. Aphrodite: Goddess of Love and Beauty4. Zeus and Hera5. Artemis (Diana) Goddess of the Moon and the Hunt6. Hermes (Mercury) of the Winged Sandals7. Apollo: God of Sun and LightHere are the comments about Pantheon from composer Elizabeth Raum:Pantheon alludes to a temple, a musical temple in this case, devoted to the gods of ancient Greek mythology, several of whom are represented in this work. The first movement opens with a horn call as Eos, Goddess of the Dawn begins her rosy-fingered awakening, and rising from her couch, ascends the heavens in her horse-drawn chariot. She heralds the approach of her brother, Helius, the sun god, whose superior brightness causes her color to fade. In the second movement, The Fates (Moirae) spin their thread of life and death. The minimalist quality of the music, representing the steady turn of the spindle, becomes more and more agitated as Atropos, the Fate who holds the shears, prepares to cut the thread. The hand stopped horn and the Bartok pizzicato signify the final snip. A moment of contemplation, and they begin again. Some try to persuade Atropos to delay a moment, but she cannot be deterred. Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, is the third movement. She arose from the foam of the sea and all were charmed by her grace, but she could also be coy and flirtatious as she is in this version. Zeus and Hera, the king and queen of the gods, make up the fourth movement. The opening theme suggests the regal stride of Zeus while Hera, furious at his many infidelities, quarrels with him and schemes to thwart his affairs. In the fifth movement, Artemis (Dawn Goddess of the Moon and the Hunt), holds high her silver bow that gleams in the night sky like the new moon. The clouds drift silently past while she runs with her hounds and dances with her nymphs. Hermes (Mercury) of the Winged Sandals, sixth movement, is scored for violin and horn alone. He is a very mischievous and cunning god, and his exceptional swiftness is aided by his winged sandals as he flies to carry out his divine duties. And finally in the seventh movement, Apollo the horn again summons the gods. A hymn to Apollo celebrates the god of eternal youth, beauty, and music. This is a major chamber work for Violin, Horn, and Piano of about 26 minutes in length written for Erika Raum, Phil Myers, and Peter Allen and is appropriate for very advanced artists.

Score and parts. 3 pages. Gustavo Fuentes #3637523. Published by Gustavo Fuentes (A0.900404). The Sky in Your Eyes. Celtic music song composed by Gustavo Fuentes, arranged for two voices. One melody instrument, such as tin-whistle, flute, recorder, low whistle, violin or piano and low voice like cello or bass, with chords for piano or guitar. The audio is from to the Gustavo Fuentes CD Almas en vuelo that you can listen to on Spotify. The eyes are the windows to the soul. They can reflect sadness, happiness, pain, peace, love. The eyes of a mother looking at her child, of a migrant taking one last look at their homeland, the eyes of two lovers getting lost in ecstasy. So we must let our eyes be. Let them fill up with tears of joy, tears of sadness and tears of excitement. We must truly let our eyes be windows to our souls so those that want to get to know it only need to look inside. Once we let our eyes reflect the skies, reflect smiles, reflect hope and even reflect the world, we might be able to perceive the eyes around us.

Small Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869210 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 39 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #2016283. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869210). Instrumentation: 3333-4331-timp-2perc-cel-hp-strings Program Notes: When Charles Ansbacher, music director of the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, commissioned me to write Pluto as a grand finale for The Planets by Gustav Holst, I immediately thought of Pluto, the Disney character; but common sense took over when I sat down to work. So instead of Disney’s faithful dog, I gravitated to the Pluto of Roman mythology. After a long battle with the Titans, the three brothers, Zeus, Poseidon and Pluto, divided the world among themselves. Zeus had the sky; Poseidon, the sea; and Pluto, the Underworld. According to mythology, the spirits of the dead, whether good or bad, enter the Underworld. Cerberus, a vicious three-headed beast, stands guard at the entrance - preventing the living from entering the world of the dead. The movement begins with a fanfare: Cerberus at the gates of the Underworld. Then a grand waltz materializes in the bass: Pluto dances!! As the waltz fades away, a lyrical tune emerges: Persephone, the wife of Pluto, appears. The work ends with a reprise of the opening fanfare, slightly altered.

Small Ensemble Flute,Harp,Piano,Piccolo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1032136 Composed by Aleksander Czarnecki. Contemporary. Score and parts. 162 pages. Aleksander Norbert Czarnecki #4411649. Published by Aleksander Norbert Czarnecki (A0.1032136). Aleksander Czarnecki (1993-2018) was a Polish polymath, pianist - composer, mathematician and a philosopher. His research focused on the Calabi Yau manifold. He left an astonishing musical legacy, unprecedently rich, diverse and impressive for his young age, including several large scale works as well as piano/orchestra miniatures, chamber music, pieces for piano solo etc. His unmistakingly personal compositional style could be easiest described as post-classical/post - tonal, and is instantly recognizable by its highly intrinsic, intellectually refined idiom of Scriabinesque, modernist/ avant guarde, New Complexity , later minimalist/repetitive music influences married with frequent appeals to historic techniques (contrapunctus, Gregorian plain chant, French harpsichordists, ethnic modality), a dense emotional drive and a profound sensitivity, all in the best of the resolutely post-Romantic tradition further enhanced with a super-human - as if machine induced - level of pianistic/structural difficulty, typically far beyond the one represented by the most demanding examples of, say, Godovsky's/Cziffra's transcriptions or Sorabji's works. (Jozef Kapustka, pianist)Aleksander Czarnecki on his scientific research: My research work concentrates on the modularity conjecture for Calabi-Yau manifolds according to which the Galois representation is isomorphic ( exact to the semisimplification and the finite number of Euler factors) to the Galois representation assigned to an automorphic form -equivalently the L-series of the Calabi-Yau manifold should be equal to the L-series of a certain modular form. The modularity conjecture has been extensively studied by many algebraic geometricians (Dieulefait, van Straten, Yuri, Schoen, Hulek, Verrill, Schuett, Meyer) however these studies have not resulted in producing a sufficiently representative number of examples of small level modular forms. In the best understood, rigid case of Calabi-Yau threefolds defined over the field of rational numbers, the modularity conjecture delivers from a more general Serre conjecture, as proven by Wirtemberger and Khare. Additionally, the modularity has been known a property only for certain particular Calabi-Yau varieties. For some non rigid Calabi-Yau threefolds (certain double octics) defined over rationals ( or more generally over particular number fields) the existence of modular or Hilbert modular forms has been hypothetically suggested. I am mainly interested in Frobenius polynomials of non-rigid double octics and have been extensively working with variants of Dwork's deformation method, monodromy and selected p-adic methods including algorithms by Kedlaya, Lauder, Tuitman et al. , Picard-Fuchs operators etc. (Aleksander Czarnecki, 2018)

Romance “Проводник (Conductor)†explores themes of cyclicity, immortality of a soul, and realization that without true love, everything else is meaningless. The eternal wandering of a soul does not necessarily mean running in circles, but rather reaching new levels in awareness of love. Love kindles a flame in the hearts, “bringing it out of the shadowsâ€, beyond the boundaries of time and space. This is why we feel alive and gain a sense of lightness. The vibration of truth helps us awaken love within. It is not limited to what you look like, who you are, where you are, or who you are with. The chorus begins with “I know...â€, implying inner knowledge, revealing that everything in this world is not accidental, especially meetings. Some people are perceived as kindred spirits by us, and meeting them can be either inspiring or frustrating, depending on your willingness to acknowledge your own mirrored qualities. The flame of love, originally given to humanity by God, called to lead like a beacon among the darkness and winds.Unfinished sketches of the romance were found by Galina Vasilevskaya in papers, left behind by her father, a well known composer, after his passing. With the help of her friends, Galina was able to finish the song. The deep and thoughtful poetic text, written by Aleksandr Popov Mikhaylov seamlessly matches the overall idea expressed in music, elevating the song to a level of a rare aesthetic enjoyment. Expressive arrangement by Stefan Kristinkov masterfully paints the profound ideas of the song, leaving a listener with a sense of peace and integrity.Composer: Galina VasilevskayaLyricist: Aleksandr Popov Mikhaylov Arranger/Orchestrator: Stefan Kristinkov Listen Here

In Little Seeds you will find new hymns from my heart. My devotional life is given to you in my hymnwriting. During the past three years I have been writing songs for the unity of the church - songs reminding us of our baptism. I have been writing biblical story hymns for lesser-known characters. I have written paperless songs that may be easily memorized. I set a Rumi poem. There are new hymns for Christian missions from everywhere to everywhere. You will find new texts and musical settings for folk songs from around the world. I hope I have treated these with the love and respect they deserve. You will find alternate arrangements of some songs that may be useful in different settings. Lim Swee Hong composed three tunes for this collection at my request. I am also pleased to include Lianne Tan's first published hymn tune in Little Seeds
Song List: A Babe Was Born A Blood Red Rose Reminds Us Still A Garden You Once Made A God of Surprises, Beyond Expectation A Man Lay Beaten, Left for Dead A Rabbi Sat Against a Wall A Woman Stood Accused Ain't No Grave All People Need a Home As at Pentecost You Came As Children, We May learn to Love As Colors in the Sky Beside the Great Cathedrals Can You See Christ Can You See the Living Christ Chill of the Nightfall Each Seeking Faith Is Seeking Light Elijah Bowed Down on the Earth Fair Wind and the Sky Is Clear God, Help the Weary Travelers God, Help Your Church to Learn God, You Are Like a Place Remembered Guide My Canoe, Spirit Wind He Is The Way He Will Never Let Go My Hand Hope of the Earth I Saw an Angel in the Road I Will Not Always Walk This Earth In Every Changing State of Mind In the Stillness of This Hour Jesus, Live in Us Jesus Lives! Large Ensemble Cello,Clarinet,Flute,Piano,Piccolo,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.841258 Composed by Chris Gordon. 20th Century. Score and parts. 39 pages. Cool Wind Music Digital #3056419. Published by Cool Wind Music Digital (A0.841258). Full set of parts: Please contact Chris Gordon at the email address on the first page of music for details.IF NOT NOW, WHEN? If Not Now, When? gets its title from the novel by Primo Levi, the Italian author who both survived life in Auschwitz and fought the continued German military presence in Italy with the Resistance after the Italian surrender to the Allies in September 1943. Levi meant that revolution and the overthrow of tyranny should never be 'put off until tomorrow'. If you believe you are on the side of right, then 'seize the day'- tomorrow may be too late. The inspiration for INNW? grew from research I was doing into an early song by Alban Berg called An Leukon which Berg wrote in 1907 while a student of Arnold Schoenberg. In delving into the kind of world which Berg inhabited in the Vienna of 100 years ago, I was fascinated by the café culture* which played a pivotal role in the lives of most artists: not only composers, but also writers, painters, architects and journalists. They swirled around the fashionable 'watering holes' sucking up current thoughts and ideas, high on Viennese coffee, cigar smoke and idealism! I envisaged a play which tried to encapsulate all this and wrote a few scenes with characters such as Schoenberg, Berg, Webern, Steuermann, Pisk, Kraus, Gropius and Altenberg heatedly discussing music, art and poetry over large cups of milky coffee. This grew into the framework for INNW? which, to paraphrase Pirandello's play about characters seeking an author, is a 'play without words in several scenes'. The piece is organised into 8 short movements or 'scenes' showing the 'Schoenberg cirle' sharing their radical and daring ideas and the shock or delight (or both simultaneously) with which those ideas are greeted. The first, which happens to be the longest, is rooted in conventional tonality. It begins with a fanfare in D flat major ('aux armes, citoyens!'), then seeks a 'freer' tonality by means of the 'emancipation of the semitone' only to capitulate in the central section and, finally, to 'fall back to earth' by winding down in G sharp minor. These 'scenes' are not meant to represent particular composers. They are, however, meant to represent the kinds of directions in which music could progress, given the 'breakdown' or 'stretching to its limits' of traditional harmony which had occurred in the previous 10 to 20 years. So many ways forward were promulgated, with one after another extraordinary, and often unexpected, futuristic musical panoramas glimpsed momentarily. My aim is to demonstrate which directions they decided they could head in having cleared the 'overgrown' path before them. * I even discovered that, around this time, in the Café Central, a certain Leon (Lev) Bronstein, otherwise known as Leon Trotsky, banished by the Okhrana (Imperial secrect police) from his native Russia, would spend all day in a back room playing chess. How delicious, I thought, if Schoenberg had ever brushed passed Trotsky or, indeed, had ever spoken to him: the one planning political and the other musical revolution!

This selection, Carol of the Bells, also known as Ring, Christmas Bells, is suitable for high school and college students and is perfect for Christmas concerts and church services. Carol of the Bells' was written by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych in 1914 with lyrics by Peter J. Wilhousky. The song is based on the Ukrainian folk chant Shchedryk, a New Year's song, known in English as The Little Swallow, and utilizes a four-note ostinato which brings to mind the ringing of bells. Originally intended to be sung a capella by a mixed four-part choir it has since been recorded into over 150 versions and re-arrangements for various vocal and instrumental compositions. One version, Ring, Christmas Bells, an English-language variant with Nativity-based lyrics, was written by Minna Louise Hohman in 1947. Regis Bookshar has now arranged the music for a Trombone Sextet. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (16 pages). In addition to this version for 6 Trombones, many other arrangements of this selection are also available for a variety of instrumental ensembles, including Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets, as well as numerous other selections in a wide variety of styles. I would encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar. You may find something else which might interest you as well. I'm certain that this exciting arrangement will entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.
