ISBN 9790570481521.3 Bb Clarinets and Piano. Incredibly exciting, this starts with driving repeated semiquavers in the piano part while the three clarinets build up syncopated chords over the top. This then bursts in to a section with a modern jazz feeling - fast semiquavers and chords built on perfect fourths, . After this, the first section flips - the driving semiquavers are split between the three clarinets while the piano takes the melodic material in octaves. The middle section has a more relaxed feel with overlapping entries in the clarinets over smooth yet modern harmonies in the piano part with an almost bossa nova feel to it. The driving semiquavers appear and push the music to an exciting conclusion. The clarinet parts are difficult, with extreme ranges and some very fast articulation. Some tricky syncopation in all parts makes this one for the expert players, but well worth the work!

It is an odd form in that it does not contain any departure from the central idea; therefore there is no return. The story has a beginning and ending but uses subtle variation to push the idea along its way. .. much the way loving relationships evolve. The equivalent of the story song in classical music is a Poem, and this is what I have called this piece. An inspiration I used for my musical poem was the ocean and it’s repetition of waves as they fall in to the shoreline. I grew up near the ocean and remember how the sounds of the relentless waves used tocalm me. While it was the repetitive sound of the sea that moved me as a child, today, I observed that each wave was not the same but in fact slightly different. I was amazed that it seemed that no two waves looked or sounded the same to me. This natural occurrence seemed to mirror my love for wife Carla. Each day was just something a tiny bit different. It was very natural to make these kinds of life experience connections. Bridges that joined nature, love and art. The poem begins slowly and inquisitively and builds through in intensity with loud and mightily passionate moments of emotion before the music comes down peacefully and reflectively, until the last statement played by the violin signifies that the sea is calm once again. This playful arrangement of Lullaby of Birdland by George Shearing (concert Ab) for voice and 3 horn ( alto sax, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, and drums ) is unique from many arrangements of this jazz standard by weaving complimentary melodies around the vocal melody, giving this piece a welcome breath of fresh air. The 10-bar intro has a rhythmic push in the piano reminiscent of Jamiroquai’s Virtual Insanity that intensifies the listener’s anticipation to hear the first few notes of this familiar tune in a new and unique context. Returning back to the head via a simple D.S. enables instrumentalists to easily focus on solos rather than the form. The 2-bar rhythm-section outro concludes the piece precisely and cleanly and takes the listener back to the time when jazz bands were first cooking up storms on the dance floors. Though cited with tempo at a quarter note = 160 bpm, this arrangement works well at any bpm between 140 and 170.Other than for the introduction and the ending, the piano part includes chords and rhythmic notation throughout for easy improvisation. The bass part includes both an intermediate-advanced written part and chords throughout, thus accommodating bassists at all skill levels and/or those who would prefer to play a combination of written and improvised bass lines. The drum chart is to be improvised throughout; however, it includes suggested rhythmic ideas and indicates key points in the arrangement such as horn hits, repeats, and fills. PLEASE NOTE: For ease of identifying parts, the forthcoming audio clip furnishes a piano playing the vocal melody. The piano chart does not include the melody. About the Arranger: Serena Rose is a professional musician who performs weekly in the greater Los Angeles area. She has a master's in music composition and has composed three large works for the Orange Coast College Wind Ensemble as well as various smaller ensembles based in Los Angeles.

The solo part is carefully thought through with enough rests to make it approachable, while the syncopatino in the other parts give the music an energy that is maintained to the very final flourish, instigated by a demisemiquaver scale run on the tuba! Intermediate and above ensemble parts, but the solo tuba part needs a fairly skilled and confident player to get the most out of this piece.

For the 2018 Chamber Music Contest Entry Eternal Bridge was made to be performed by a group of six soloists playing the following instruments: Oboe, Harp, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass. It is not a difficult piece once learned. It is really a great fun for the players and very easy listening too, It covers a very wide range of audience demands. There is a groove feeling on it that makes it very pleasant to most all people. Because of its plasticity the piece allows many interpretations, therefore I did not made much use of interpretation symbols in order to leave to the performers the freedom of doing their own. Bowing and fingering are left totally virgin at the hands of the schools or the creativity of the performing Artists. P.S. - The score was written on Finale. The sound file For the 2018 Chamber Music Contest Entry, was performed with samplers from Garritan and conceived as an audio support for the presentation of the score. Imagine a little railway station, a train that comes and stops, and your friends go inside. As you step on the little stairs to go inside, the doors close letting you out, and the train starts rolling. It speeds up very fast and enough so you can`t jump out of the little stairs back to the ground, you are holding now to the iron bars around the doors of the train, you see your friends and the people inside but they can`t see you, they can`t hear you, and you notice that the train is now on a bridge so high, that you can`t see the earth any more. Wind is blowing around me and I feel this cosmic cold and everything starts to twist around in a gigantic spiral. I still feel the Gravity but it goes in all directions at the same time pushing me violently and I feared to fail the grip on the iron bars and fall down, in an imaginary endless abyss. Little by little the speed of the events slows down progressively until everything freezes. Now, The other side of the bridge does not exist at all, neither the beginning or up or down. The train disappeared in a glimpse and I noticed that I was not falling down, just hanging there out in hyperspace, Free from Gravity. I lost the fear of falling in the abyss, it felt kind a good, because the only thing that I could see was light, pure beautiful bright white light, I was floating in light, I realised I could stay there forever, but then I felt lonely and wanted to come back home. The Compositions 1960 are a set of pieces written in 1960 by composer La Monte Young. These pieces are unique in the sense that Young heavily emphasizes performance art, through extra-musical actions such as releasing a butterfly into the room or pushing a piano against a wall. History In 1959, while studying at Berkeley, Young traveled to Darmstadt to study with Karlheinz Stockhausen. During that summer, Stockhausen frequently discussed the music of American Composer John Cage. As a result, rather than gaining interest in Stockhausen's works, Young left Darmstadt having found inspiration in Cage's works. A year later in 1960, Young did indeed have the opportunity to study with Cage and Richard Maxfield in New York. During his studies, Young gave New York's first loft concert in Yoko Ono's loft. Some of the pieces that he performed would later become part of his Compositions 1960 Pieces Each piece has a unique set of instructions to be followed by the performer. These instructions may include the setting up of the piece, and what to do during the piece. Some of the pieces will even specify what the audience should do.

The lyrics tell of the day-to-day life of a hobo who, despite being poor (a man of means by no means), revels in his freedom, describing himself humorously and cynically as the king of the road. It was Miller's fifth single for Smash Records. The popular crossover record hit No. 1 on the US Country chart, No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 1 on the Easy Listening surveys. The arrangement takes advantage of the wide range of the saxophone and pushes the limits of technical ability; starting first in a fairly easy key and later transitioning to a much more challenging one. This was done partly to overcome harmonies ending up too low in the bass clef (when pitched in C) and to add a twist to the arrangement. Quartet for Piano and Strings (A Sea Liturgy) (2009) was jointly commissioned for the Moscow Studio for New Music and the Arcturus Chamber Ensemble (Sarah Darling, artistic director). It is dedicated to the Arcturus Chamber Ensemble on its 10th anniversary. The work is cast in a single movement and is conceived as a sea liturgy. It attempts to conjure up an imagined set of spiritual rituals (not connected to any specific religion)-a ceremony of transformation and renewal performed in the context of a sea landscape. Though not broken into movements, the formal design of the work could be seen as follows: Processional - (Ritornello) - Invocation - Offering - (Ritornello) - Baptism - Rebirth - Recessional As with so many of my works, much of the initial musical planning took place in the context of the oceanscapes of Nantucket Island, Massachusetts. Those particular sea landscape were foremost in my mind while writing. The listener may also discard the imagined liturgical apparatus and simply listen to the work as a series of seascapes. (For the purposes of narrative clarity, the above section descriptors will be used in the below narrative.) The opening Processional begins with focused, austere intensity: the instruments unfold from a single pitch (E) into a more rich harmonic landscape. A Ritornello of pulsating string harmonics leads into Invocation, a warmly lyrical discourse. The Offering is a faster, jubilant development of the Invocation, where the prayerful melodies of the Invocation are transformed into a gift for the sea. A return of the Ritornello leads to the Baptism. In this section, heterophonic melodies unfold out of the new substrate pitch (D). In the transforming crucible of the water, these lines becomes more and more extended harmonically. The Rebirth is a dancing development of the Baptism; the harmonic extensions are pushed from dissonance into chords of pure joy. Emerging out of the afterglow of the Rebirth is the Recessional, in which the music of the Processional is revisited, now transformed by the ritual to center on the pitch D. The Recessional fades away peacefully, yet fervently.
