Large Ensemble Bassoon,Clarinet,Double Bass,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - SKU: A0.553794 Composed by Antonin Dvorak. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. Score and parts. 31 pages. RayThompsonMusic #4621337. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553794). The Slavonic Dances (Czech: Slovanské tance) are a series of 16 orchestral pieces composed by AntonÃn Dvořák in 1878 and 1886 and published in two sets as Op. 46 and Op. 72 respectively. Originally written for piano four hands, the Slavonic Dances were inspired by Johannes Brahms's own Hungarian Dances and were orchestrated at the request of Dvořák's publisher soon after composition. The pieces, lively and full of national character, were well received at the time and today are considered among the composer's most memorable works, occasionally making appearances in popular culture. Contrary to what the title might suggest, the dances are not so much inspired by Slavic folk music generally, but specifically by styles and forms from Bohemia. In these pieces, Dvořák never actually quotes folk melodies, but evokes their style and spirit by using traditional rhythmic patterns and structures in keeping with traditional folk dances. This is my arrangement of No 7 from the first set Op.46This is titled SkoÄná which is a rapid Slavic folk-dance, normally in 24 metre.Arranged double wind quintet and bass.

Bassoon,Clarinet,Double Bass,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1129885 Composed by Antonin Dvorak. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Chamber,Folk,Romantic Period. 42 pages. RayThompsonMusic #730292. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1129885). Arranged double wind quintet/bass The Slavonic Dances (Czech: Slovanské tance) are a series of 16 orchestral pieces composed by AntonÃn Dvořák in 1878 and 1886 and published in two sets as Op. This is my arrangement of No 3 Polka from the first set Op.46 In Simrock's original edition of the piano duet, no. 3 was the D major Sousedská and no. 6 the A flat major Polka - an order apparently approved by Dvořák. Their positions were reversed in the orchestral version. The term polka referring to the dance is derived from the Czech word Polka meaning Polish woman (feminine form corresponding to Polák, a Pole). Czech cultural historian ÄŒenÄ›k ZÃbrt also attributes the term to the Czech word půlka (half), referring to both the half-tempo 2 4 and the half-jump step of the dance.[2] The word was widely introduced into the major European languages in the early 1840s.

Arranged by Grant Horsley. 19th Century,Classical,Contest,Festival,Folk,Romantic Period. 20 pages. Grant Horsley #956921. Published by Grant Horsley (A0.1372589). Slavonic dances are inspired by the folk rhythms and styles of Slavic nations, This wonderful piece composed in 1886 is one of the finest and most well known. It has been arranged for early intermediate players, although the whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess. I have written it in 3/4 time instead of the original 3/8 for ease of reading. The phrasing has been adapted to keep as close to the original as possible. There are also small variations in the final section to keep the arrangement cohesive. It has been covered in so many ways for such a variety of instrumental combinations as it's such a popular memorable piece. It is useful for concerts, recitals, weddings, incidental music etc.It is roughly 5 minutes in length.Price is for full score and parts.

Bass Flute,Instrumental Solo,Piano - Level 2 - SKU: A0.549430 Composed by Antonin Dvorak. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and individual part. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #3494193. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549430). Score: 7 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 3 pages. Duration: 4:25 Not difficult, but requires sensitivity & dynamic control. Suitable for recitals, church meditations, or school programs.  Dvořák Background AntonÃn Dvořák (1841 –1904) was, of course, a composer from Czechoslovakia. As a matter of fact, he was among the first Bohemian composers to attain universal recognition. It is important to realize that the late Romantic Nationalist period featured composers who used traditional and folk elements to portray the character of their nation. In particular, we see this in the music of Grieg (Norway), Finland (Sibelius), and Smetana (Bohemia).  Dvořák relied markedly on rhythms and other characteristics of Moravian and Bohemian folk music. Ascent to Fame Dvořák was truly a child musical prodigy on the violin. The premiere performances of his compositions notably occurred in 1872 and 1873. He submitted his First Symphony in particular to a German competition, but it failed to win. Consequently, in 1874 he presented two more symphonies to the Austrian State Prize for Composition. Johannes Brahms was the principal of the jury and was accordingly very impressed. They forthwith awarded the prize to Dvořák in 1874, 1876, and 1877. At this point, Brahms thereupon endorsed Dvořák to the publisher Simrock. Later, the publisher commissioned Dvořák to compose the Slavonic Dances, Op. 46. These became popular overnight and, as a result, Dvořák's worldwide status was launched. International Status Dvořák visited England upon invitation nine times. On each visit, he frequently conducted performances of his own compositions. He conducted concerts of his music, especially in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Eventually, the Prague Conservatory in fact appointed Dvořák as a professor. There, to be sure, he wrote his famous Dumky Trio. United States Consequently, the National Conservatory of Music of America appointed him as director in 1892. As a result, Dvořák composed his two most famous symphonic works: the Symphony No. 9 (From the New World), which spread his name universally, and his Concerto for Cello and Orchestra, one of the most famous of all cello works. Moreover, he wrote his most celebrated American String Quartet during this time. At the same time, because of his growing recognition in Europe and his homesickness for his own country, he left to return to Bohemia in 1895.

He submitted his First Symphony in particular to a German competition, but it failed to win. Consequently, in 1874 he submitted two more symphonies to the Austrian State Prize for Composition. Johannes Brahms was the principal of the jury and was accordingly very impressed. They forthwith awarded the prize to Dvořák in 1874, 1876 and 1877. At this point, Brahms thereupon endorsed Dvořák to the publisher Simrock. Later, the publisher commissioned Dvořák therefore to compose the Slavonic Dances, Op. 46. These became popular overnight and, as a result, Dvořák's worldwide status was launched. International Status Dvořák visited England upon invitation all in all nine times.

Solo Bb Cl. 2 Bb Cl. Acl (Bb Cl). BCl. - Advanced - SKU: F2.FM585 Composed by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. Arranged by Robert Rainford. Arranged for Solo Clarinet with Clarinet Quartet accompaniment. Score and parts. 126 pages. Forton Music - Digital #FM585. Published by Forton Music - Digital (F2.FM585). ISBN 9790570484843.This quintet is an early work, composed in 1895. Compared to the more familiar quintets of Mozart, Weber and Brahms, this composition is not as well known. However, it is every bit the equal of it's more famous brothers, and deserves to receive more recognition. The first movement alternates dark and troubled sections with livelier, folk dance like music with almost the feeling of Dvorak's slavonic dances. The second movement features a long melodic line, which is decorated with increasingly elaborate lower parts. The third movement is a frenetic and nervous scherzo, which switches between 9/8 and 3/4 times giving it a stuttering feeling at times. The finale returns to the minor key dramatic feel of the first movement, with much use of the scotch snap rhythm adding another folk music-like flavour. Overall, stylistically this piece fits beautifully between the Weber and Brahms quintets, and should be more widely performed. Originally published for clarinet in A and string quartet, this version presents the work to be played on solo clarinet in Bb accompanied by a quartet of two Bb clarinets, an alto clarinet in Eb (although a substitute part for another clarinet in Bb is included) and a bass clarinet in Bb. The solo part has been left unchanged; the string parts have been altered to suit the new medium. The somewhat stratospheric first violin part has been tamed and brought down to a more suitable range; the articulation and dynamics have been edited and corrected so as to present a more unified work. The problematic third movement, with its unmarked and hard to spot shifts between 9/8 and 3/4 has been presented in a more readable fashion.
