2 flutes, cello (viola da gamba) and piano (basso continuo) - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q16177 Composed by Johann Ludwig Krebs. This edition: Sheet music. Il Flauto traverso. Downloadable. Schott Music - Digital #Q16177. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q16177). Key: B minor.Johann Ludwig Krebs (1713-1780) was a student of Johann Sebastian Bach who greatly valued his musical accomplishments and scholarly knowledge. During his time in Zwickau (1737-43) Krebs composed a collection of six trio sonatas 'Denen Liebhabern der Instrumental-Music zum angenehmen Zeitvertreib', the second of which is the sonata published here. Although still in the formal tradition of the sonata da chiesa, the four-movement church sonata, it already points to the post Baroque era, especially with regard to the melody, to the gallant sentimental movements. This very charming work has been out of print for a long time and is now republished in the Edition Schott.

String Orchestra - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549863 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Classical,Concert,Instructional,Standards,World. Score and parts. 52 pages. Jmsgu3 #3557749. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549863). Beethoven Sonata Op. 49 No. 2 arranged for string orchestra. Duration: 10:15 Score: 28 pages, 242 measures. In two movements. I arranged this for my own beginner orchestra. Easy to rehearse and perform. Very popular with the audience. Sonata Op. 49 No. 2 Arranged from Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 20, this is a simple but interesting work in two movements showing the composers sense of humor. The first movement Allegro ma non troppo and the second movement Tempo di Menuetto are both in the key of G. Both Sonatas 19 and 20 (op. 49, No. 1 & 2) are named Easy Sonatas because they are technically easier than the usual Beethoven Sonatas. This makes them very popular among students and teachers alike. Beethoven Background Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 –1827) was certainly a German pianist. Above all, he was probably one of the greatest composers in history. As a result, he is a pivotal character in the progress between the Classical and Romantic periods. He is certainly one of the most famous and hence important of all composers. Seems like his most familiar and noteworthy works include symphonies 1-9; piano concertos 1-5; and furthermore, the violin concerto. Also, certainly of extreme importance are the noteworthy 32 sonatas for the piano; the string quartets 1-16; the Missa solemnis; and likewise, his only opera, Fidelio. Beethoven Overview First of all, Beethoven was born and consequently raised in Bonn. Upon turning 21 he moved to Vienna probably to study composition with Haydn. That’s when he consequently grew a reputation as a brilliant pianist. Furthermore, he probably stayed in Vienna the rest of his life. In his late 20s it seems like his hearing certainly began to decline. It slowly declined until consequently he was nearly totally deaf probably by the last decade of his life. As a result, he stopped conducting and performing. Nevertheless, he continued to compose. As a result, some of his greatest works probably come from this period. First Period Seems like we often divide Beethoven’s life into three periods. Period 1 begins with Beethoven’s arrival in Vienna. Hence, during this period, he mastered the Viennese style of Haydn & Mozart. He consequently began increasing the size and scale of his works. Furthermore, he experimented with extreme dynamics, and likewise extreme tempi. He worked similarly with chromatic harmony. His First and Second Symphonies therefore belong to this period. Other important works also belong here: the first six string quartets and the Sonata Pathétique, Op. 13. Second Period His second period probably began as soon as he realized that he was going deaf. During this period, it seems like he became obsessed with the idea of heroism. His works consequently become even larger and more massive. The most noteworthy of these include the symphonies 3 – 8, piano concertos 5& 6, 5 string quartets, several important piano sonatas (Waldstein and Appassionata), the Kreutzer violin sonata, the violin concerto and his only opera: Fidelio. Third Period In contrast, Beethoven's third period is branded above all by works of incredible intellectual depth, formal innovation, and penetrating expression. It seems like he continued to expand his works. Consequently, the string quartet Op. 131 spills over into seven connected movements. Likewise, in the Ninth Symphony he adds choral forces to his orchestra probably for the first time in history. Even more, other works from this period include his Missa solemnis, the final 5 string quartets (including the enormous Große Fuge) and the final five sonatas for piano. www.jamesguthrie.com.

VivaceDuration: 9:30 Score: 13 pagesGeorge Frideric Handel is one of the most celebrated composers of the Baroque era. He composed many genres of music, but he is best known for his large-scale choral works, including operas, oratorios, and cantatas. He was also highly respected for his chamber music and sonatas. Handel's chamber music was composed for small groups of instruments and was often used for private performances. His sonatas were written for a single instrument and often included a keyboard instrument. Handel was renowned for his ability to blend melodic ideas and inventive harmonies into his compositions, creating a unique and personal style. His works continue to be performed today, and his chamber music and sonatas are some of the most beloved pieces of music from the Baroque period. Handel's duet output was particularly noteworthy, and he wrote some of the most iconic and beloved duets in music history. His duets were often set in a homophonic texture, allowing the two voices to move together in harmony and melody. Handel also employed polyphonic techniques in his duets, using complex counterpoint and rhythmic devices to create rich, textured works. His duets often featured ornate melodies and rich harmonies, creating a full sound that was both beautiful and moving. Handel's duets are still some of the most popular works in classical music today, and they continue to be performed and enjoyed by audiences around the world.

Instrumental Duet Contrabassoon,Instrumental Duet - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.612801 Composed by Jean Baptiste Loeillet of Ghent (1688 – 1720). Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Contest,Festival,Standards,Traditional,Wedding. Score and parts. 59 pages. Jmsgu3 #221995. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.612801). John Baptist Loeillet, a Flemish Baroque composer, wrote six sonatas for flute and basso continuo in his Op. 5 No. 2. This work is widely considered to be some of his most significant compositions, and they are still performed today. The sonatas are divided into three movements each, with two slow movements and one faster one. The flute part is very demanding, as Loeillet often wrote in the high register, and the accompanying basso continuo part provides a solid foundation for the piece. The music has an emotional intensity that was characteristic of the Baroque era, and it features various ornamentations, like trills and mordents. The influence of Corelli can be heard in the contrapuntal textures, and the melodic lines are often based on the scales and modes of the period.Loeillet's Op. 5 No. 2 is a beautiful and captivating work, and its timelessness is a testament to its quality. It has been transcribed and adapted for other instruments, and it remains a popular choice for many classical musicians.Contents:Sonata No. 1 Duration: 9:45 Score: 8 pages 1. Vivace 2. Baroque,Sacred,Standards. 179 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3387883. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534363). The Six Trio Sonatas, BWV 525-530 were composed about 1727 during Bach’s period in Leipzig. They were not composed for organ, but (according to Forkel, Bach’s first biographer whose information came from Bach’s son Carl Philip Emmanuel Bach) for the pedal harpsichord as means of improiving the pedal technique of his son Wilhelm Friedemann Bach. This instrument, which requires a great deal of precision in performance, contains a normal harpsichord with two manuals attached to a pedal board which activates another harpsichord which is lower to the ground. Many of the movements in these Italian sonatas were used in other settings, in Bach’s Cantatas and in other instrumental works.Bach always tuned his own keyboards and confided his tuning system to his student Johann Kimberger (1721-1788) who used this information to devise several tuning schemes to create a well-tempered system according to Bach’s ideas. The main principal that Bach gave Kimberger was that all thirds should be tuned slightly sharp (...alle grossen Terzen scharf). The saxophone is an ideal instrument to experiment with this sort of tuning, given the possibilities for adjustment in the embouchure. Nothing can replace a good set of ears in the process and use of electronic tuning devices should be avoided, unless they can be specifically programmed to reflect these sorts of non-standard tunings.Sonata no. 1 in Eb major, BWV 525 Sonata no. 2 in c minor , BWV 526 Sonata no. 3 in d minor, BWV 527 Sonata no. 4 in e minor, BWV 528 Sonata no. 5 in C major, BWV 529 Sonata no. 6 in G major, BWV 530

Albinoni Sonata per Pisendel in B flat major
Small Ensemble Cello,Harpsichord,Violin - Digital Download SKU: A0.890771 Composed …

Small Ensemble Cello,Harpsichord,Violin - Digital Download SKU: A0.890771 Composed by Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni. Arranged by Sneakwood Editions. Baroque,Classical. Score and parts. 8 pages. Sneakwood Editions #4782289. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.890771). While in Venice, Pisendel met another of the great Italian composers of the time, Tomaso Albinoni. Albinoni, too, was captivated by the young virtuoso, to the extent that Pisendel returned to Dresden with three sonatas for violin and continuo copied by the Italian master himself. But, although we can assume that all three sonatas were dedicated in some way to Pisendel, it is the Sonata for violin and continuo in B flat Major that bears a special dedication on its frontispiece: Sonata a Violino solo di me Tomaso Albinoni Composta p[er] il Sig:[re] Pisendel. And not only this dedication but also certain musical aspects lead us to believe that the sonata in question may have been written specifically for Pisendel. The sonata goes beyond Albinoni’s usual technical requirements, exploring the upper register of the violin in a way that appears only rarely in other sonatas by this Italian. And, in the second movement, marked Allegro, we find an unusual and virtuoso use of triple stops in a fast semi-quaver rhythm. This singular effect is used by Albinoni in only one other work, the Concerto for violin and strings in C Major Co2, although with a strange and interesting nuance: of the versions of the concerto that remain we find this technique only in a manuscript version in Dresden, the version that Pisendel brought back from Italy in 1717 together with the sonata. Other versions of the concerto, such as the one published by Roger around 1717, or other manuscript versions do not contain the triple-stop passages. This suggests that they may be a personal touch added by Albinoni in recognition of Pisendel’s remarkable performing skills.

Woodwind Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.811704 Composed by Joseph Bodin De Boismortier (1689 - 1755). Arranged by Edited & arranged by Pat Spence. Baroque,Concert,Standards. 43 pages. Piper Publications #4338647. Published by Piper Publications (A0.811704). SONATA No. 1 in A MAJOR SONATA No. 2 in E MINOR SONATA No. 3 in D MAJOR Written for 2 equal instruments these sonatas bring pleasure to players of intermediate standard and above whilst developing their independent playing skills. Each sonata has 4 movements slow and fast alternating in the same key. The six opus 8 sonatas were published in Paris in 1725 for ‘deux Flûtes-Transversiere sans Basse’. They were published ‘Avec Privilége du Roy.’ They were printed as a playing score preceeded by a title page which also gave details of where to obtain copies - L’Auter, Le Sr. Boivin & Le Sr. Le Clere. A copy of the Privilége du Roy. granted by King Louis on March 22nd 1724 was printed in full on the second page. It is highly likely that the sonatas would have been played by pairs of oboes or violins or possibly by bassoons or cellos according to the players available in the homes of the wealthy amateur players who could afford to buy music. The flute parts were printed in the soprano clef - with G on the bottom line. This would have been convenient for flute players who often also played bassoon when required and were often not keyboard players. This edition uses the modern bass clef and has a score plus separate parts to facilitate page turns. In editing the sonatas the presentation of the music has been modernised.

Bring your best espressivo and plan to rehearse the many subtle dynamic changes.Sonata Pathétique Op. 13 First of all, this is an arrangement of the second movement of Beethoven’s Sonata Pathétique. It seems like Beethoven wrote this piece before becoming troubled by deafness. Published in 1799, it consequently remains one of the most celebrated pieces Beethoven ever wrote. As a result of its popularity, the movement was therefore performed by Karl Haas. Hass recorded it for a popular radio show called: Adventures in Good Music. Furthermore, he probably stayed in Vienna for the rest of his life. In his late 20s, it seems like his hearing certainly began to decline. It slowly declined until consequently, he was nearly totally deaf probably by the last decade of his life. His First and Second Symphonies, therefore, belong to this period. Likewise, in the Ninth Symphony, he adds choral forces to his orchestra probably for the first time in history. Even more, other works from this period include his Missa solemnis, the final 5 string quartets (including the enormous Große Fuge) and the final five sonatas for piano.

Baroque,Classical,Contest,Festival,Standards,Wedding. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #686830. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1082622). Sammartini Op. 1 No. 2 Sonata. Score: 6 pages. Duration: 8:13 I. Andante II. Allegro III. Minuet/GraziosoGiuseppe Sammartini's Sonatas Op. 1 was composed in the early 18th century. Sammartini, an Italian composer, was known for his instrumental works, particularly for the flute, recorder, and oboe. He dedicated his 12 sonatas Op. 1 to Frederick, indicating his attachment to the family he worked for. Most of Sammartini's chamber music was regularly performed and republished during his lifetime, highlighting the significance of his works in the Baroque era. The historical context of these sonatas is rooted in the Baroque period, during which the sonata form and chamber music flourished.Sammartini is considered a formative influence on the preclassical symphony and the development of the Classical style. His approach to symphonic composition was unique, drawing influence from the trio sonata and deviating from the Italian overture model. His symphonies were driven by rhythm and more precise forms, reflecting a mixture of Baroque and Preclassical forms and anticipating the direction of classical music, such as the Sturm und Drang style. He composed around 70 symphonies and is praised for his innovations in the development of the symphony, which have contributed to the development of the Classical style.

Georg Mertens #3620533. Published by Georg Mertens (A0.790879). Corelli's Sonata opus 5 No 8 is originally written for violin. Title of the 12 Sonatas: 12 Suonati a violino o cimbalo meaning: 12 Sonatas for violin and cello or harpsichord. No 8 in E minor is my favourite Corelli Sonata. Original key, matching the original violin part. I have performed this Sonata with violin with both guitar and cello with the included parts (see video). Here is supplied: Cello melody, Cello accompaniment (continue bass), Guitar accompaniment (according to the figured bass - like the harpsichord part), Facsimile of the edition by Joseph Joachim (1888 - 1891). The first print (Rome on the 1st of January 1700) was quite messy, Joachim published a very neat edition of the same, which is here included. This edition includes violin and cello parts in Duo form. Bowing and ornament suggestions are added. Movements are: Preludio - Allemande - Sarabande - Gigue, and in brackets: Largo - Allegro - Largo - Allegro, marking the change of naming in the new century. Here a recording for violin and guitar (Sarabande only): https://youtu.be/LWGgBvrKFYwAnd a recording for 2 cellos (Sarabande): https://youtu.be/dTGFtwQuhFw

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Trio - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552647 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Standards,Wedding. 36 pages. Jmsgu3 #6491011. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552647). Sonata No. 1 BWV 525, originally for organ, arranged for double reed trio: 1 Oboe, 1 English Horn, 1 Bassoon. Duration: 14:15, Score: 19 pages. In three movements.I. AllegroII. AdagioIII. AllegroJ.S. Bach's Trio Sonatas BWV 525-530 are some of the most popular and beloved works of the Baroque period. Composed in 1717, these six trio sonatas for the organ are among Bach's earliest works for the instrument. They are all in the traditional three-movement form and are composed in the style of the Italian concerto grosso, with two upper voices (treble and alto) and a basso continuo. The two upper voices often intertwine in intricate contrapuntal melodies, while the basso continuo provides harmonic support. The works are also full of virtuosic passages that demonstrate Bach's mastery of the organ. The Trio Sonatas are considered to be among the most important and influential works of the Baroque era, and they continue to be widely performed and studied today. The Bach Trio Sonatas have been successfully transcribed for a variety of ensembles, including wind, string, and brass ensembles. The parts are easily divided among a variety of wind instruments, including flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and saxophone. In these transcriptions, the original material is retained, but often with some additional orchestration or embellishment. These transcriptions often emphasize the polyphonic texture of the original works, creating a rich soundscape.  The Sonatas have also been successfully adapted for a variety of string ensembles. In these versions, the original two-part texture with the basso is maintained, creating a full and satisfying sound that allows for a more nuanced interpretation of the works. In addition, these transcriptions often add a variety of dynamic markings and articulations that were not present in the original editions. These transcriptions provide performers with a variety of options for interpreting and performing these beloved works.

Eight Sonata for Harp

Instrumental Duet Harpsichord,Instrumental Duet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.808939 Composed by Domenico Scarlatti. Arranged by Fabrizio Aiello. Baroque,Classical. Score and parts. 32 pages. Preludio s.r.l. #5712611. Published by Preludio s.r.l. (A0.808939). The over 550 harpsichord sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti constitute one of the highest peaks of 18th century instrumental music. Despite being structured in a single movement, based on a theme and divided into two parts with a refrain, his sonatas have been shown to be pieces of remarkable originality. Their style is authentic and very bright, revealing a truly innovative and creative spirit with extremely daring and unconventional dissonances and modulations. The manifold contaminations come from the musical universe of that time: from the concert to the cantata, from the popular elements to the Spanish dance rhythms. Various sounds are recalled through the spontaneous, evocative and natural timbre of the harpsichord: from the orchestral ones to those of two other famous pinch instruments, such as the guitar and the harp. The greatest researcher on Domenico Scarlatti, Ralph Kirkpatrick, claimed: «Despite being a composer for harpsichord, and although almost all his compositions are conceived for the harpsichord language, his musical skills, more important than the sound effect, can be enhanced on any instrument».This aspect is aptly reflected in the harp versions of Scarlatti’s sonatas, which are primarily a way to show how the harp can represent the spirit and the playfulness of these compositions. Apparently, this instrument is one of the most suitable to capture the purity of the musical textures of these sonatas and their perfect balance between musical mathematics and feelings. Moreover, the didactic purposes of these adaptations are notable, since the player is faced with fast scales, double stops, repeated notes, broken octaves, complex arpeggios, embellishments and other unusual passages pervaded by a virtuoso language.By carefully selecting every single sonata and choosing the most suitable fingerings to highlight key phrases, Fabrizio Aiello has carried out a praiseworthy work which plays a crucial role in enriching the harp repertoire.Susanna Bertuccioli

These 'Church Sonatas' were originally intended for performance in church by two violins with the organ as 'basso continuo' reinforced by the bass viol. These types of work are sometimes known as 'Trio Sonatas' but, because there normally are two people playing the continuo part, there are usually four players in all.The seventh sonata has three movements, with the tempo markings Allegro, Grave, and Allegro.

Duration: ca. 12:00, Score: 12 pages.Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) was an Italian composer and violinist in the Baroque period, who is widely considered to be one of the greatest composers of all time. He was a major influence on many other composers of the Baroque era, and his influence can still be felt in music today.Vivaldi's most important contribution to music history was his development of the sonata da chiesa, or church sonata. This form of composition was a variation on the Baroque sonata, and was used primarily in sacred music. It was characterized by a more lyrical approach to composition, with a focus on melody and harmonic structure. Vivaldi was one of the first composers to make use of this form, and his works set the standard for future composers. His church sonatas were written in a wide variety of keys and styles, and their influence can be heard in the works of later composers, such as J.S. Bach and Handel.Vivaldi's influence on music history is far-reaching, and his contributions to the development of the sonata da chiesa are among his most important. His compositions are still widely performed and appreciated today, and his legacy continues to shape the music of the modern era.

Sonata for banjo and guitar

Instrumental Duet Banjo,Guitar,Instrumental Duet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.985326 Composed by Jeremiah Lawson. Contemporary. Score and parts. 14 pages. Jeremiah Lawson #6013867. Published by Jeremiah Lawson (A0.985326). This is a 14 page work in three movements that has a performance time of roughly 12:30 to 13:30. I composed this sonata back in 2012 and it was given a filmed premiere by Brett Parnell on banjo and Daniel Corr on guitar. The first movement is a sonata form that opens in G minor and ends in G major. The second movement is a set of variations on an old shape note tune known as Star in the East, and the third movement is a five-part rondo that recapitulates themes from the first and second movements. This sonata is part of a larger cycle of chamber sonatas I have been composing since 2000 which began with my sonata for flute and guitar and pairs the guitar up with woodwinds, strings and brass. The over-arching concept that guides the chamber sonata cycle as I've been working on it is to draw upon Haydn and Clementi's monothematic sonata forms as a template for synthesizing 18th century galant era processes of gestural development with American vernacular and popular styles, often from the age of ragtime up through to the 1940s and beyond.
