Instrumental Duet Contrabassoon,Instrumental Duet - Level 2 - SKU: A0.612801 Composed by Jean Baptiste Loeillet of Ghent (1688 – 1720). Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Contest,Festival,Standards,Traditional,Wedding. Score and parts. 59 pages. Jmsgu3 #221995. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.612801). John Baptist Loeillet, a Flemish Baroque composer, wrote six sonatas for flute and basso continuo in his Op. 5 No. 2. This work is widely considered to be some of his most significant compositions, and they are still performed today. The sonatas are divided into three movements each, with two slow movements and one faster one. The flute part is very demanding, as Loeillet often wrote in the high register, and the accompanying basso continuo part provides a solid foundation for the piece. The music has an emotional intensity that was characteristic of the Baroque era, and it features various ornamentations, like trills and mordents. The influence of Corelli can be heard in the contrapuntal textures, and the melodic lines are often based on the scales and modes of the period.Loeillet's Op. 5 No. 2 is a beautiful and captivating work, and its timelessness is a testament to its quality. It has been transcribed and adapted for other instruments, and it remains a popular choice for many classical musicians.Contents:Sonata No. 1 Duration: 9:45 Score: 8 pages 1. Vivace 2. VivaceDuration: 9:30 Score: 13 pagesGeorge Frideric Handel is one of the most celebrated composers of the Baroque era. He composed many genres of music, but he is best known for his large-scale choral works, including operas, oratorios, and cantatas. He was also highly respected for his chamber music and sonatas. Handel's chamber music was composed for small groups of instruments and was often used for private performances. His sonatas were written for a single instrument and often included a keyboard instrument. Handel was renowned for his ability to blend melodic ideas and inventive harmonies into his compositions, creating a unique and personal style. His works continue to be performed today, and his chamber music and sonatas are some of the most beloved pieces of music from the Baroque period. Handel's duet output was particularly noteworthy, and he wrote some of the most iconic and beloved duets in music history. His duets were often set in a homophonic texture, allowing the two voices to move together in harmony and melody. Handel also employed polyphonic techniques in his duets, using complex counterpoint and rhythmic devices to create rich, textured works. His duets often featured ornate melodies and rich harmonies, creating a full sound that was both beautiful and moving. Handel's duets are still some of the most popular works in classical music today, and they continue to be performed and enjoyed by audiences around the world.

Woodwind Ensemble - Level 3 - SKU: A0.811704 Composed by Joseph Bodin De Boismortier (1689 - 1755). Arranged by Edited & arranged by Pat Spence. Baroque,Concert,Standards. 43 pages. Piper Publications #4338647. Published by Piper Publications (A0.811704). SONATA No. 1 in A MAJOR SONATA No. 2 in E MINOR SONATA No. 3 in D MAJOR Written for 2 equal instruments these sonatas bring pleasure to players of intermediate standard and above whilst developing their independent playing skills. Each sonata has 4 movements slow and fast alternating in the same key. The six opus 8 sonatas were published in Paris in 1725 for ‘deux Flûtes-Transversiere sans Basse’. They were published ‘Avec Privilége du Roy.’ They were printed as a playing score preceeded by a title page which also gave details of where to obtain copies - L’Auter, Le Sr. Boivin & Le Sr. Le Clere. A copy of the Privilége du Roy. granted by King Louis on March 22nd 1724 was printed in full on the second page. It is highly likely that the sonatas would have been played by pairs of oboes or violins or possibly by bassoons or cellos according to the players available in the homes of the wealthy amateur players who could afford to buy music. The flute parts were printed in the soprano clef - with G on the bottom line. This would have been convenient for flute players who often also played bassoon when required and were often not keyboard players. This edition uses the modern bass clef and has a score plus separate parts to facilitate page turns. In editing the sonatas the presentation of the music has been modernised.

Score and part. 16 pages. Jmsgu3 #3516929. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552860). Duration: ca 5:20, Score: 8 pages, solo part: 3 pages, piano part: 4 pages. One of Beethoven's finest and most famous works. Program for a recital, church meditation or school program. Bring your best espressivo and plan to rehearse the many subtle dynamic changes.Sonata Pathétique Op. 13 First of all, this is an arrangement of the second movement of Beethoven’s Sonata Pathétique. It seems like Beethoven wrote this piece before becoming troubled by deafness. Published in 1799, it consequently remains one of the most celebrated pieces Beethoven ever wrote. As a result of its popularity, the movement was therefore performed by Karl Haas. Hass recorded it for a popular radio show called: Adventures in Good Music. Beethoven Background Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 –1827) was certainly a German pianist. Above all, he was probably one of the greatest composers in history. As a result, he is a pivotal character in the progress between the Classical and Romantic periods. He is certainly one of the most famous and hence important of all composers. Seems like his most familiar and noteworthy works include symphonies 1-9; piano concertos 1-5; and furthermore, the violin concerto. Also, certainly of extreme importance are the noteworthy 32 sonatas for the piano; the string quartets 1-16; the Missa solemnis; and likewise, his only opera, Fidelio. Beethoven Overview First of all, Beethoven was born and consequently raised in Bonn. Upon turning 21 he moved to Vienna probably to study composition with Haydn. That’s when he consequently grew a reputation as a brilliant pianist. Furthermore, he probably stayed in Vienna for the rest of his life. In his late 20s, it seems like his hearing certainly began to decline. It slowly declined until consequently, he was nearly totally deaf probably by the last decade of his life. As a result, he stopped conducting and performing. Nevertheless, he continued to compose. As a result, some of his greatest works probably come from this period. First Period Seems like we often divide Beethoven’s life into three periods. Period 1 begins with Beethoven’s arrival in Vienna. Hence, during this period, he mastered the Viennese style of Haydn & Mozart. He consequently began increasing the size and scale of his works. Furthermore, he experimented with extreme dynamics, and likewise extreme tempi. He worked similarly with chromatic harmony. His First and Second Symphonies, therefore, belong to this period. Other important works also belong here: the first six string quartets and the Sonata Pathétique, Op. 13. Second Period His second period probably began as soon as he realized that he was going deaf. During this period, it seems like he became obsessed with the idea of heroism. His works consequently become even larger and more massive. The most noteworthy of these include the symphonies 3 – 8, piano concertos 5& 6, 5 string quartets, several important piano sonatas (Waldstein and Appassionata), the Kreutzer violin sonata, the violin concerto and his only opera: Fidelio. Third Period In contrast, Beethoven's third period is branded above all by works of incredible intellectual depth, formal innovation, and penetrating expression. It seems like he continued to expand his works. Consequently, the string quartet Op. 131 spills over into seven connected movements. One of Beethoven's finest and most famous works. Program for a recital, church meditation or school program. Bring your best espressivo and plan to rehearse the many subtle dynamic changes. Sonata Pathétique Op. Likewise, in the Ninth Symphony, he adds choral forces to his orchestra probably for the first time in history. Even more, other works from this period include his Missa solemnis, the final 5 string quartets (including the enormous Große Fuge) and the final five sonatas for piano. www.jamesguthrie.com.

Published by Georg Mertens (A0.790879). Corelli's Sonata opus 5 No 8 is originally written for violin. Title of the 12 Sonatas: 12 Suonati a violino o cimbalo meaning: 12 Sonatas for violin and cello or harpsichord. No 8 in E minor is my favourite Corelli Sonata. Original key, matching the original violin part. I have performed this Sonata with violin with both guitar and cello with the included parts (see video). Here is supplied: Cello melody, Cello accompaniment (continue bass), Guitar accompaniment (according to the figured bass - like the harpsichord part), Facsimile of the edition by Joseph Joachim (1888 - 1891). The first print (Rome on the 1st of January 1700) was quite messy, Joachim published a very neat edition of the same, which is here included. This edition includes violin and cello parts in Duo form. Bowing and ornament suggestions are added. Movements are: Preludio - Allemande - Sarabande - Gigue, and in brackets: Largo - Allegro - Largo - Allegro, marking the change of naming in the new century. Here a recording for violin and guitar (Sarabande only): https://youtu.be/LWGgBvrKFYwAnd a recording for 2 cellos (Sarabande): https://youtu.be/dTGFtwQuhFw

Small Ensemble Cello,Harpsichord,Violin - SKU: A0.890771 Composed by Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni. Arranged by Sneakwood Editions. Baroque,Classical. Score and parts. 8 pages. Sneakwood Editions #4782289. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.890771). While in Venice, Pisendel met another of the great Italian composers of the time, Tomaso Albinoni. Albinoni, too, was captivated by the young virtuoso, to the extent that Pisendel returned to Dresden with three sonatas for violin and continuo copied by the Italian master himself. But, although we can assume that all three sonatas were dedicated in some way to Pisendel, it is the Sonata for violin and continuo in B flat Major that bears a special dedication on its frontispiece: Sonata a Violino solo di me Tomaso Albinoni Composta p[er] il Sig:[re] Pisendel. And not only this dedication but also certain musical aspects lead us to believe that the sonata in question may have been written specifically for Pisendel. The sonata goes beyond Albinoni’s usual technical requirements, exploring the upper register of the violin in a way that appears only rarely in other sonatas by this Italian. And, in the second movement, marked Allegro, we find an unusual and virtuoso use of triple stops in a fast semi-quaver rhythm. This singular effect is used by Albinoni in only one other work, the Concerto for violin and strings in C Major Co2, although with a strange and interesting nuance: of the versions of the concerto that remain we find this technique only in a manuscript version in Dresden, the version that Pisendel brought back from Italy in 1717 together with the sonata. Other versions of the concerto, such as the one published by Roger around 1717, or other manuscript versions do not contain the triple-stop passages. This suggests that they may be a personal touch added by Albinoni in recognition of Pisendel’s remarkable performing skills.

Jmsgu3 #686830. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1082622). Sammartini Op. 1 No. 2 Sonata. Score: 6 pages. Duration: 8:13 I. Andante II. Allegro III. Minuet/GraziosoGiuseppe Sammartini's Sonatas Op. 1 was composed in the early 18th century. Sammartini, an Italian composer, was known for his instrumental works, particularly for the flute, recorder, and oboe. He dedicated his 12 sonatas Op. 1 to Frederick, indicating his attachment to the family he worked for. Most of Sammartini's chamber music was regularly performed and republished during his lifetime, highlighting the significance of his works in the Baroque era. The historical context of these sonatas is rooted in the Baroque period, during which the sonata form and chamber music flourished.Sammartini is considered a formative influence on the preclassical symphony and the development of the Classical style. His approach to symphonic composition was unique, drawing influence from the trio sonata and deviating from the Italian overture model. His symphonies were driven by rhythm and more precise forms, reflecting a mixture of Baroque and Preclassical forms and anticipating the direction of classical music, such as the Sturm und Drang style. He composed around 70 symphonies and is praised for his innovations in the development of the symphony, which have contributed to the development of the Classical style.

Baroque,Concert,Graduation,Standards,Wedding. Score and parts. 34 pages. Piper Publications #6207541. Published by Piper Publications (A0.811776). This Trio Sonata was composed around 1719 for 2 violins or flutes or oboes and cello or harpsichord. The four movements, Andante, Allegro, Largo and Allegro are typical of the other opus 2 sonatas and provide interesting parts for all three players. Players of intermediate standard and above will enjoy the musical challenge. All editing is clearly indicated using dashed lines and parentheses ( ). Some changes of register have been made- mostly moving the flute part up an octave to balance the oboe part and avoid middle C which would not have been available on most flutes of the period. Handel's dynamic markings are very sparse and I have refrained from adding more than a few very obvious ones as there are so many possibilities and it is so much more satisfying for players to decide for themselves.

Small Ensemble Cello,Harpsichord,Violin - Level 5 - SKU: A0.890772 Composed by Martino Bitti. Arranged by Sneakwood Editions. Baroque. Score and parts. 16 pages. Sneakwood Editions #5321911. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.890772). Martino Bitti – Dresden Sonata for violin and continuo N.6 in A major (Sinfonia)Anton Domenico Gabbiani – Portrait of Three Musicians of the Medici Court (The violinist is Martino Bitti)Martino Bitti is one of the great virtuosos of the past who has fallen into oblivion. Few know his work today. However, a look at the works he has left us and his life as a musician reveals a great virtuoso who deserves to be rediscovered. The relatively recent work done by Professor Talbot in his work: A Thematic Catalogue of the Instrumental Music of Martino Bitti (1655/6–1743) [ Michael Talbot (2015) A Thematic Catalogue of the Instrumental Music of Martino Bitti (1655/6–1743), Royal Musical Association Research Chronicle, 46:1, 46-94, DOI: 10.1080/14723808.2014.986256] has brought to light some of Bitti’s most interesting compositions. This is the case of this Sinfonia, listed as anonymous until that moment in the archives of the Sächsische Landesbibliothek – Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Dresden (SLUB).The only copy of this work is in the SLUB, as part of the Pisendel collection (Schrank II), the manuscript Mus. 2-R-8, 102, entirely copied by Pisendel. It is very probable that Pisendel copied the sonata during his trip to Italy and his passage through Florence in 1717, where he would meet the crème de la crème of the Florentine violinists: Fanfani and Bitti. Pisendel kept in his collection nine sonatas by Martino Bitti.Bitti’s virtuosity is noted in this work. The large number of double stops and their use in the complex counterpoint of the second movement demand a high technical mastery from the performer.
