This is the twenty-third volume of an extensive collection of folk songs arranged for the classical guitar mostly in two-part counterpoint. The arrangements are of moderate difficulty and the aims of this publication are to familiarise, entertain and educate guitarists (and other musicians) with a melodic repertoire of lasting aesthetic value, under the light of contrapuntal treatment.The thirty five volumes of this collection can certainly be printed on paper if so desired and there are a few pages in each volume, either blank or with photographs of various musicians, which can be inserted at will in any place for the correct ordering of left and right hand pages so that page turns can be avoided. The principle of avoiding page turns has been maintained in all volumes, but this edition is also designed with mobile electronic devices in mind such as tablets etc, using the environment and facilities of a score reading application, towards a paperless world, at least in music. Ideal for a mixed ability trio or large ensemble, Guitar 3 plays a steady bass line against which the syncopated tune can work its magic. The tune, on Guitar 1, goes up to top E on fret 12, but it’s comfortable under the fingers. Guitar 2 provides both a countermelody and some cheeky imitation.I hope you enjoy this piece!

All of John W. Duarte’s English Suites, seven in total, are written for different instrumental combinations and use different folk songs as their bases. English Suite No.3 Op.78 for four guitars was written in 1979 and comprises three movements, 1) Rufty Tufty, 2) The Crystal Spring and 3) The Black Nag, which use two dances from John Playford’s The English Dancing Master and one folk song from Somerset, UK. The music is of medium difficulty but written for maximum enjoyment.Les suites anglaises de John W. A Farmer's Boy is an example of a piece that gained fame and popularity through the oral traditions of singing in the United Kingdom during the 19th Century. It first appeared in print in an 1832 catalogue of street songs collected James Catnach, and appeared in many other printed books during that century. There are many tunes that are associated with the words, the most popular of these being 'Ye Sons of Albion', a patriotic tune associated with the Napoleonic Wars, that later become extremely popular as regimental march tunes for the Duke of Edinburgh and Prince of Wales Regiments.At the beginning of the 20th century legendary Folk Collector Percy Grainger recorded the song on phonograph, the song performed by a M. Tandy of Winchcombe, Gloucestershire. Just under 50 years later the great Musicologist/Ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax recorded a version that can be heard in his vast recording archive. Over time the tune followed people to other Commonwealth countries and numerous other versions appeared.This is a version that attempts to faithfully recreate the performances of bands in the late 19th Century period.

Arranged symphonic wind dectet/bass.The Teddy Bears' Picnic is a song consisting of a melody written in 1907 by American composer John Walter Bratton, and lyrics added in 1932 by Irish songwriter Jimmy Kennedy. It remains popular in the United Kingdom as a children's song, having been recorded by numerous artists over the decades. Kennedy lived at Staplegrove Elm and is buried in Staplegrove Church, in Taunton, Somerset, England. Local folklore has it that the small wooded area between the church and Staplegrove Scout Hut was the inspiration for his lyrics.Bratton composed and personally copyrighted it in 1907, and then assigned the copyright to M. Witmark & Sons, New York City, who published it later that year as The Teddy Bears Picnic: Characteristic Two Step, according to the first page of the published piano score, as well as the orchestral parts Witmark published in an arrangement by Frank Saddler. However, the illustrated sheet music cover gives the title as THE TEDDY BEARS' PICNIC, with apostrophe on BEARS and no genre descriptor. Irish songwriter Jimmy Kennedy wrote the now familiar lyrics for it in 1932.After Bratton wrote The Teddy Bears' Picnic, however, many people felt that the composer plagiarized portions of the melody. Music aficionados pointed out in particular that the refrain echoed the theme from Robert Browne Hall's 1895 Death or Glory March. Nevertheless, charges were not filed and Bratton's song still has the same tune it had in 1907.
