Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792126). The Adagio in G minor for Trombone and String Quartet is a wonderful arrangement of the work attributed to Tomaso Albinoni (1671-1751). The work is about 7 minutes in length for advanced performers.Below is a short article about the Adagio by the arranger, Sean F. Biehn:There is much controversy as to who wrote the Adagio for Strings in G minor and whether it was a stolen idea or embellished from a piece of a manuscript. The piece is considered to be a fragment of Tomaso Albinoni's (1671-1751) original manuscript with a few measures of the melodic material and the basso continuo. During World War II, the bombings of Dresdon, which is where the Saxon State Library resided, was destroyed and Remo Giazotto (1910-1998) evacuated most of its documents, being that he was a musicologist-and an Albinoni biographer. Giazotto took the fragment of manuscript and completed what he thought would be the completed piece which in turn makes his completed piece an original composition. In 1958, Giazotto finalized the piece under the title of Adagio in G minor for Strings and Organ, on Two Thematic Ideas and on a Figured Bass by Tomaso Albinoni. Remo Giazotto never shared the manuscript and after his death in 1998, there has never been a record of the missing manuscript fragment. To this day, the string ensemble with organ is popularly performed. There have been numerous and recent alterations in instrumentation for this piece due to the fact that other soloists wanted to perform the beautiful piece. This particular version of the piece contains a string quartet accompanying a trombone soloist.

Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.CMF183). 9 x 12 in inches.The clarinet is my instrument, and I think the two greatest works in its repertory (and two of the greatest of all chamber works) are the quintets for clarinet and strings by Mozart and Brahms. In writing for this combination of instruments, I borrowed ideas shamelessly from both.I would describe the style as folk-inspired classical chamber music. The melodies are song-like or dance-like; the harmonies are simple, modal, and consonant. The time signatures of the three movements are 7/8, 5/4, 7/8 - unusual in classical music but common in the folk music of some eastern European countries. The texture is homophonic in some places and contrapuntal in others, always with at least one melody, often with more than one. The clarinet is not treated as a solo instrument but is integrated into the ensemble.The first movement is in sonata form. As in the Mozart and Brahms quintets, it begins in the strings, with the clarinet entering a few bars later on a rising arpeggio. The first theme is song-like; the second theme is dance like. The movement ends quietly on a phrase from the second theme. The form of the second movement begins with a song for the cello, repeated in the clarinet. The next section features a dance-like melody in the second violin, repeated in the clarinet with a descant in the first violin. Then a brief section in the minor, featuring the viola, leads to a repetition of the song that opened the movement, this time in the viola, repeated in the violins and the clarinet.The third movement is a set of variations on a brisk, dance-like theme. After several variations, including two in the minor mode, the tempo slows to adagio for the next-to-last variation (as in the last movement of the Mozart quintet). That variation features a duet for the first violin and the clarinet (as in the slow movement ofthe Brahms quintet). The final variation returns to the brisk tempo and brings back the melodic figure that ends the first movement. A brief coda on this melodic figure concludes the piece.

Arranged double wind quintet/bass The String Quartet in F major, Op. 96, nicknamed the American Quartet, is the 12th string quartet composed by AntonÃn Dvořák. It was written in 1893, during Dvořák's time in the United States. The quartet is one of the most popular in the chamber music repertoire. For the London premiere of his New World symphony, Dvořák wrote: As to my opinion I think that the influence of this country (it means the folk songs)) is to be seen, and that this and all other works (written in America) differ very much from my other works as well as in colour as in character,. A characteristic, unifying element throughout the quartet is the use of the pentatonic scale. This scale gives the whole quartet its open, simple character, a character that is frequently identified with American folk music. However, the pentatonic scale is common in many ethnic musics worldwide, and Dvořák had composed pentatonic music, being familiar with such Slavonic folk music examples, before coming to America Specific American influences have been doubted: In fact the only American thing about the work is that it was written there, writes Paul Griffiths. The specific American qualities of the so-called American Quartet are not easily identifiable, writes Lucy Miller, ...Better to look upon the subtitle as simply one assigned because of its composition during Dvořák's American tour. This is my arrangement of the 4th movement: Finale (Vivace ma non troppo) It is in a traditional rondo form, A–B–A–C–A–B–A. The main melody is pentatonic. The B section is more lyrical, but continues in the spirit of the first theme. The C section is a chorale theme. I have adapted the string music for winds, and included some sustained horn chords. It has a similar feel to the finale of Dvorak’s wind serenade in D minor op.44.

Key: G minor.The String Quartet in G minor by Anton Wranitzky (1761-1820) is one of the great works that combine stylistic devices developed by the turn of the century, such as the development of the sonata form by his thematic-motivic work, the contrasting effects of sound and structure, and the equal standard of all five parts. It is the second of the three Quintets Op. 8 with double violas and cellos. Unique in its instrumentation, they broaden the sound spectrum of the Boccherinian type with two cellos and some early quintets with three violins and two cellos, thus revealing the wealth of variants in the string quintet instrumentation which is typical of the genre. Artaria Editions AE432Joseph Martin Kraus was one of the most gifted and unusual composers of the 18th century, whose talent for thematic development, colourful orchestration and theatrical flair caused Haydn to proclaim him one of only two 'geniuses' he knew (Mozart being the other one). Although Kraus's focus as a composer was mainly upon works written for the stage, he had occasion and opportunity to write a variety of works for chamber setting, including four sonatas for violin and fortepiano, and this work in D minor, was written in 1777 expressly for violin and clavicembalo, representing a different sort of piece than the more common duo sonata. It is not known for whom the work was written, but the extensive virtuosity makes it likely that it was intended either for Kraus himself or his brother Franz (1760-1790), an exceptional talent on the violin. The two-movement format is similar to Kraus's early string quartets (VB 178; Artaria Editions AE418), though in this case, the extensive sonata form first movement is followed by a through-composed one consisting of a slow pastorale (replete with bass drone in the violin) and an exotic faster section that includes material from the first movement. What makes this work interesting is the use of scordatura; the G string is to be tuned down to F, which makes it more useful from a harmonic standpoint in that the note can be used in the tonic, relative major, and all dominant-subdominant keys. The Basso part is completely figured—for this edition it has been realized by the editor - but given that Kraus specifically mentions only the keyboard instrument (clavicembalo), it is unlikely that it was performed as a continuo, i.e. with additional violoncello/contrabass, but rather was intended for harpsichord alone.Allan Badley.

The movement is approximately 3 minutes and is filled with excitement throughout. This arrangement is designed for mature players, as every part is demanding. That being said, this arrangement is very easily rehearsed and performed. Tutti sections of long eighth note passages from the original have been adapted for winds, so while challenging the parts are all playable and accessible. This arrangement consists of two parts which can be played either seperately, or consecutively: the famous “Air On The G String†(BWV 1068, as in the 1871 arrangement by August Wilhemj), inspired by Jaques Loussier´s “Play Bachâ€- version (hence the video link), and the fugue c-minor from the Well-Tempered Piano (BWV 847), inspired by the magnificent Turtle Island String Quartet´s incomparable swinging rendition. There are several options of playing this arrangement: “Air†has two parts which can be repeated – thus, violin1 and cello can distribute the theme. Of course, these repetitions are optional. If you want to play the Air only – there is an optional ending in bar 22. If you want to play only the fugue – start from bar 23 (intro), or from bar 30 (theme). Or you choose to play Air and fugue consecutively. The arrangement works great either ways ;-). Piano voice is written out. However, there are also chord symbols for your own voicings. Minimal instrumentation: piano trio (violin1, cello, piano). Comes with full score and all individual parts. Optional voices for violin 2 and bass, clarinet Bb, guitar, and drums included. This song was written for the Total Eclipse which was seen April 2024 across a large section of the North American continent from Mexico through the United States and into Canada. This music creates the feel and experience of the total eclipse. It expressively drifts from minor to major to modal every few measures as it explores the themes of darkness and light, terror and excitement. It should be performed with a bit of edginess to portray the historical anxiety of the event. The upper three instrument parts are kept very low in their range to give a darker tone. The violin part has some double stopping. This unique but approachable piece of art music is a fusion of Romantic, Classical, and Modern styles, great for any concert or recital that needs something special and different, (and perhaps a bit haunting). The Oboe Concerto in D minor, S D935, is an early 18th-century concerto for oboe, strings and continuo attributed to the Venetian composer Alessandro Marcello. The earliest extant manuscript containing Johann Sebastian Bach's solo keyboard arrangement of the concerto, BWV 974, dates from around 1715.Bach's keyboard version was published as an arrangement of a concerto by Antonio Vivaldi in the 19th century. In 1923 the C minor version of the oboe concerto was published as a composition by Benedetto Marcello, Alessandro's brother. In the second half of the 20th century several publications indicated Alessandro again as the composer of the piece, as it had been in its early 18th-century print, and the oboe concerto was again published in its D minor version.This easy arrangement for brass quartet (Bb Trumpet 1, Bb Trumpet 2, Trombone or F Horn, Tuba) of the marvelous second movement (adagio) of the concerto is suitable for any occasion.
