Clarinets in A (Alt parts in Bb also provided) Dvořák initially wrote the Suite in A major for piano, Op. 98, B. 184, in New York between February 19 and March 1, 1894.[1] He orchestrated it in two parts more than a year after his return to the United States and immediately before his departure for Europe. The piano version was performed soon after its composition, but the orchestral version waited some years. The orchestral version of the American Suite was first played in concert in 1910 and not published until 1911, seven years after Dvořák's death in 1904. This is an arrangement of the ist mvt: Andante con moto.

German • English • French.'Carmen' is one of the most popular and most frequently performed operas across the globe. Its world premiere was a flop. Nevertheless, the opera very quickly gained acceptance at all major theatres, bringing in its wake countless arrangements of some particularly beautiful music numbers, among them the Carmen Fantasia for violin and orchestra by the Spanish violin virtuoso Pablo de Sarasate. It was, in all probability, Bizet's close friend and fellow student Ernest Guiraud who brought 12 numbers of the opera together to form two orchestral suites. The missing singing voices were replaced by instruments, as was common practice in such cases. In addition to the two pocket scores, full score and orchestral parts are available as hire material.

The notation has been modernised for ease of reading. All edits have been indicated using dashed lines or parentheses ( ). The Grim Reaper’s Suite consists of five humorous and at the same dark pieces for five guitars to celebrate the humanity of the Grim Reaper. Two of these pieces are the well-known tune of Happy Birthday in two different and witty variations. The work was conceived to be performed live during the projection of a film by Apostolos Paraskevas called I Finally Did It. The work was premiered in 2009 by an array of well-known soloists at the Iserlohn Guitar Festival in Germany. Duration: approx. 10 minutes Apostolos Paraskevas is a classical guitarist and composer as well as an award-winning film director and producer. He has received multiple international awards for his compositions and was nominated for a Grammy Award. He is the only guitarist ever to have a major orchestral piece performed at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Lukas Foss––and the only musician who has performed there in a Grim Reaper outfit. He was the founder and served for 16 years as the artistic director of the International Guitar Congress-Festival of Corfu, Greece. He is a voting member of the Recording Academy (Grammys). After his undergraduate music studies in Volos he pursued advanced studies in classical guitar with Costas Cotsiolis (diploma, 1990) and Leo Brouwer (Havana 1984, 1988), as well as postgraduate studies in composition with Lukas Foss and Theodore Antoniou (DMA in composition, Boston University, 1998). Paraskevas embarked on a successful career as a guitar soloist and contemporary composer, achieving distinctions in both disciplines: Grammy nomination for Chase Dance (Bridge Records, 1999); first prize for Night Wanderings (Lukas Foss Composition Competition, 2000); first prize for Phygein Adynaton (National Composers Conference, 1997); and numerous prestigious commissions, performances, and publications. Following teaching posts at Northeastern and Boston Universities, Paraskevas has taught since 2001 at the Berklee College of Music in Boston (professor of composition and classical guitar). His eclectic compositional style arises as an idiosyncratic integration of seemingly conflicting influences – from avant-garde approaches to harmonic structure, form, and timbre, to pop-folk modal and rhythmical concepts – amalgamated into a personal evocative musical language, characterized by rhythmic verve, melodic grace, dramatic (and sometimes unexpectedly humorous) gestures, and ritualistic or theatrical elements. The latter feature has also led Paraskevas to the creation of films, notably the acclaimed I Finally Did It (Gold award, California Film Awards 2010), dealing wittily with Death, a recurring extra-musical theme in his music. It was first composed around 1890, at the age of 28, but was significantly revised just before its publication in 1905.This is an arrangement for wind dectet of the third and most famous movement called Clair de lune in Db major.Its name comes from Verlaine's poem Clair de lune, moonlight in French. It is written in 9/8 compound time, marked andante très expressif, and both the piano and orchestral scores are marked mostly pianissimo. Musically, Debussy's Clair de lune belongs to French Impressionism.It is arranged for a double wind quintet of 2 fl, 2 ob, 2 cl (in A) 2 hn & 2 bsn.I have included an optional bass line for either double bass, contra bassoon or tuba.Other movements are available, for both dectet, and other instrumental groups.It is based on the A Caplet orchestration, so I have retained as far as possible the solo instrumentation.The tricky arpeggios are carried by the clarinets and bassoons.

Sigmund von Birken was an early 17th Century Bohemian poet, teacher, and hymnist. A modualtion to a new key occurs at the end of B section with the aid of an Italian augmented sixth chord. The next section introduces a descant by yours truly. This piece should not be rushed as it meditates on the passion and crucifixion of Christ. The work is well suited for Good Friday and Easter.

Georg Philipp Telemann gave more consideration to amateur musicians than any of the other great composers of this day. One of the many works he wrote specifically for amateurs is the collection presented here ‘A Second Set of Seven times Seven plus One Minuet’ by Melante (i.e. Telemann). These are extremely attractive, technically not too demanding pieces for domestic music making. They are also ideal for teaching with their short, clearly structured movements which introduce a comparatively wide range of key signatures (including E flat major, F minor, A major and B minor). The pieces are ideally suited to introduce young players to the musical language of the High Baroque and the technical demands (arppegiated triads, wide leaps, trills) typical for this period. The bass line may be reinforced by a cello or gamba, bassoon or bass recorder (the basso part is only available separately).
