Tchaikovsky: Waltz of the Flowers from Nutcracker Suite for Bass Flute & Piano

Bass Flute,Instrumental Solo,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549824 Composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Children,Christmas,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and individual part. 48 pages. Jmsgu3 #3547907. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549824). Duration: 6:12, Score: 29 pages, Solo part: 6 pages, Piano part: 12 pages. This is the grand finale of the Nutcracker Suite. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Tchaikovsky is probably the most popular of the great composers in America. His music certainly appeals to musicians. Likewise, it appeals even to folks who don’t normally listen to serious music. This is probably because of his most noteworthy melodies. Above all, he writes with great emotion. This certainly makes a most noteworthy if not an unforgettable impact. Education First of all, He attended classes at the Russian Musical Society. Even more, He also attended the St. Petersburg Conservatory. There he studied music theory with Nikolai Zaremba. He also consequently studied composition with Anton Rubenstein. It seems like Rubenstein came under criticism from a group of Russian composers known as the Five. The Five The Five certainly rejected Western musical influences. They rather sought to use elements from Russian music. They furthermore wanted to use more exotic musical materials. Western Techniques More than other Russian composers, Tchaikovsky studied modern Western music. He certainly develops his music like the European masters. So, rather than repeating a motive, he moves to a new key. He then introduces a different theme in the new key. Hence, he maintained his independence from the Five. Even more, he became the first Russian composer of international stature. Influences Tchaikovsky was probably influenced in his ballet scoring by Léo Delibes. Richard Wagner influenced his symphonic writing. Tchaikovsky’s most famous works include the 1812 Overture, The Nutcracker Suite, and Swan Lake. Also famous are the Violin Concerto in D and the six symphonies. The greatest of the six symphonies may be No. 6, the Pathétique. Nutcracker Suite, Op. 71a The Nutcracker Suite is a ballet that was performed for the first time in December 1892 in St. Petersburg. To begin with, the original ballet failed to attract a positive reception. However, the ballet suite became probably one of the most popular of all of Tchaikovsky’s works. The ballet suite became even more famous in the 1960s. It is now performed all over the world, particularly during the Christmas season. Â

Choral Choir (4-Part) - Digital Download SKU: A0.885588 Composed by Michael E. Ekbladh. Christian,Contemporary,Jewish,Sacred,Spiritual. Octavo. 44 pages. Michael E. Ekbladh #2033323. Published by Michael E. Ekbladh (A0.885588). The Psalms speak to us through centuries of despair and hope. Just as today’s believers use the psalms to express their faith, so did the believers of centuries past. Originally titled I Cry to Thee, this work was commissioned by the Brazos Valley Chorale in the spring of 1998 and was first performed with choir and piano in May of the same year. This is the recording you will hear. The orchestration followed six years later in the spring of 2004 with the first full performance on May 23, 2004. Mass for the Soul possesses five structural elements from the psalms of lament: the address (and introductory petition), lament, confession of trust, petition, and vow of praise. It is this structure that forms the five movements. The way out of the depths begins in the possibility of prayer and the awareness that only the One who hears that prayer can draw us out of the depths. So the self that is caught in its iniquities cries out because of the need for forgiveness and because with God forgiveness is possible. [Interpreting the Psalms by Patrick Miller] Full Score and parts also available (MEE9800FS).

Small Ensemble Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.942081 Composed by Apostolos Paraskevas. 20th Century,Contemporary,Halloween,Romantic Period,World. Score and parts. 40 pages. Silver Sickle Publications #4887663. Published by Silver Sickle Publications (A0.942081). The Grim Reaper’s Suite consists of five humorous and at the same dark pieces for five guitars to celebrate the humanity of the Grim Reaper. Two of these pieces are the well-known tune of Happy Birthday in two different and witty variations. The work was conceived to be performed live during the projection of a film by Apostolos Paraskevas called I Finally Did It. The work was premiered in 2009 by an array of well-known soloists at the Iserlohn Guitar Festival in Germany. Duration: approx. 10 minutes Apostolos Paraskevas is a classical guitarist and composer as well as an award-winning film director and producer. He has received multiple international awards for his compositions and was nominated for a Grammy Award. He is the only guitarist ever to have a major orchestral piece performed at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Lukas Foss––and the only musician who has performed there in a Grim Reaper outfit. He was the founder and served for 16 years as the artistic director of the International Guitar Congress-Festival of Corfu, Greece. He is a voting member of the Recording Academy (Grammys). After his undergraduate music studies in Volos he pursued advanced studies in classical guitar with Costas Cotsiolis (diploma, 1990) and Leo Brouwer (Havana 1984, 1988), as well as postgraduate studies in composition with Lukas Foss and Theodore Antoniou (DMA in composition, Boston University, 1998). Paraskevas embarked on a successful career as a guitar soloist and contemporary composer, achieving distinctions in both disciplines: Grammy nomination for Chase Dance (Bridge Records, 1999); first prize for Night Wanderings (Lukas Foss Composition Competition, 2000); first prize for Phygein Adynaton (National Composers Conference, 1997); and numerous prestigious commissions, performances, and publications. Following teaching posts at Northeastern and Boston Universities, Paraskevas has taught since 2001 at the Berklee College of Music in Boston (professor of composition and classical guitar). His eclectic compositional style arises as an idiosyncratic integration of seemingly conflicting influences – from avant-garde approaches to harmonic structure, form, and timbre, to pop-folk modal and rhythmical concepts – amalgamated into a personal evocative musical language, characterized by rhythmic verve, melodic grace, dramatic (and sometimes unexpectedly humorous) gestures, and ritualistic or theatrical elements. The latter feature has also led Paraskevas to the creation of films, notably the acclaimed I Finally Did It (Gold award, California Film Awards 2010), dealing wittily with Death, a recurring extra-musical theme in his music. Published by Bo Ejeby Forlag - Digital (BJ.1282I). 8.27 x 11.7 inches.Nordic Spring takes you on a ramble through moods and tones inspired by the brilliant, astringent and melancholic poetry of Edith Sodergran. The two percussion parts take turns accompanying the choir and painting contrasts with their own melodies and an extended instrumental interlude. Spring is represented by the marimba, the vibraphone and the crotales, that create a tonal world based on the Chinese philosophy of the Five Elements: Spring (wood), Summer (fire), Late Summer (earth), Autumn (metal), and Winter (water). These phases generate or give birth to one another in one order, while they control or undo each other in the reverse order. Nordisk var was commissioned by the Vocal Art Ensemble of Sweden, conducted by Jan Yngwe, and the Rhythm Art Duo - Daniel Berg and Fredrik Duvling, with financial support from Korcentrum Syd (Southern Choral Centre), Lund University. The piece is dedicated to these two ensembles that also performed it at its world premiere on May 19, 2015 at the venue Artisten in Gothenburg. - Daniel Fjellstrom Instrumental score. Fl. Ob. Cl. Hn in F. Bsn. - Intermediate-Advanced - Digital Download SKU: F2.FM605 Composed by Traditional/Frank Bridge. Arranged by Robert Rainford. An arrangement of this well known melody for wind quintet. Score and parts. 31 pages. Forton Music - Digital #FM605. Published by Forton Music - Digital (F2.FM605). ISBN 9790570485048.Frank Bridge arranged this well known Irish air for string quartet, here presented in a version for wind quintet. Unusually, Bridge starts the arrangement with an extended fantasy upon the main theme, never stating it completely. A series of stabbing chords begin the music, and help to mark out the start of each section. Elements of the tune then weave in and out of the music, and are passed equally between all five players. The first four notes of the theme in rhythmic diminution are transformed into a delicate arpeggio that permeate the music, all accompanied with the lush chords of early 20th century English music. After about one hundred bars the music reaches an impassioned climax before the tune is finally stated in its full form, with each instrument in turn taking a solo phrase accompanied by the others. A final, peaceful coda using the delicate arpeggio of the first sections brings the piece to a close.

Clarinet,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1371643 Composed by Frank M. Davis. Arranged by Aaron Hettinga. 19th Century,Chamber,Classical,Folk,Multicultural,World. 29 pages. Aaron Hettinga #955893. Published by Aaron Hettinga (A0.1371643). Professor Frank Marion Davis (1839-1896) was an American educator, singer, and composer of both hymns and secular works. Among his secular works were a number of collections of polkas and waltzes written for solo piano. This series of works presents arrangements of a number of Davis’ compositions prepared for the instrumentation of Alford’s “Hungry Five†polka band books and serve as a fine addendum to those familiar pieces. While the clarinet parts tend to be the most active, they often feature diatonic scalar patterns. All parts should remain accessible to most intermediate-level players. The “Blue Bird’s Call†Polka (originally published in 1876) contains onomatopoeic chirps in the clarinet parts that make for a light and fun addition to any program. “Good Enough†Polka (originally published in 1874) is an example of Davis’ standard composition form used throughout most of this collection. “Harvest Home†Waltz (originally published in 1873) adds a pleasant waltz to the collection. Its melody is first presented simply, then embellishments are added as the piece continues. Davis’ aptly-titled “Jolly Friend†Polka (originally published in 1874) is a jovial tune with a bouncy melody that moves the clarinetists nimbly around a bit! “Lake-Side†Polka (originally published in 1874) has more participation in the Trumpet and Trombone parts than are found in much of the rest of this collection. “Nimble Toe†Polka (originally published in 1874) passes the melodic and accompaniment elements around the ensemble for a bit of variety for the players. This downloadable PDF package contains a set of full scores and a set of folio-sized parts (2 songs per page) that are ready to go for your German band's Oktoberfest OomPah gig! Also available individually as linked above.

Published by Daniel Gowans (A0.518623). In 2020, musicians and music lovers around the world were discouraged by the presence of Covid-19 and how it so quickly removed the opportunities for all to enjoy live music as had been previously enjoyed. This suite was written to reflect on a few elements of this pandemic, and to hope for the future as we anticipate the end of life as we know it today, and look forward to life as we may remember it. Mvt 1: A reflection on the perpetual motion of life, and how little time was spent focusing on what matters. Mvt 2: An immediate halt, requiring people to slow down and appreciate what they have. Mvt. 3: A small sketch describing the 6 feet of separation from one another. Mvt. 4: The potential for returning to the busy, perpetual life as the world once knew, but with a change.

Score and individual part. 11 pages. Jmsgu3 #3535033. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549777). Duration: ca 1:00 Score: 5 pages, Solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 3 pages. Short but fascinating Chinese Dance from the Nutcracker Suite. Program this for a recital encore or Christmas pageant.
