Hopewell Homestead Sixth Movement from Hopewell Suite for Trumpet Ensemble by Eddie Lewis Hopewell Suite is a trumpet ensemble composition for four trumpets and two flugelhorns. It was composed in 2016 using inspirations Eddie Lewis collected while he was in South Africa for the jazz festival in Grahamstown, in the Eastern Cape. Hopewell is the name of the farm where Eddie and his wife stayed most of the time while they were in South Africa. The farm is owned by their brother-in-law. Hopewell Homestead is the sixth movement of the suite. The farm is a traditional one. This is not only a place of business, but a home to the Kretzmann family and my mother-in-law. This sheet music is notated for 8-note (one octave, C major diatonic scale) instruments with Handbells on one staff and Boomwhackers® on a second staff creating an instrumental ensemble.  Handbells play the melody while the Boomwhackers® keep a steady beat with two-note chords. Included in this set of scores is a 1-page combined score with both parts on a grand staff plus a separate 1-page, 1-staff score for each instrument (for a total of 3 pages of music).This set of scores uses black and white noteheads and is best suited for musicians already familiar with reading standard music notation. For beginning musicians, this same set of scores is available (sold separately) with color coded noteheads.The number of ringers and whackers needed will vary depending on the skill level of the participants. For more advanced players, each person could be assigned two or three notes. For beginners, it is best to assign one note to each person. TAKE THE LONG WAY HOME (Supertramp) - 4 GUITARS/LARGE ENSEMBLEFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This is an arrangement for 4 guitars (or a large ensemble) of Supertramp’s 'Take The Long Way Home'.The original is nothing less than spectacular, running for a full 5 minutes with verse, chorus and instrumental breaks, and utilising rich orchestration and texture. I’ve captured all of the material in my arrangement, changing the key just slightly so that the shapes and melody are comfortable, and simplifying one or two non-guitar-friendly progressions in the breaks. The bass-line and harmony are close to the original. Guitar 4 could be played an octave lower on a contra guitar, although I’ve used subharmonics in the opening to give the illusion of a deeper bass than a guitar can manage.In order to make the piece music-stand-friendly, I’ve needed to use repeat marks meaning that the second verse has the same bass-line as the first, but a simple change in volume will provide a suitable feeling of building as the piece progresses. The opening section needs to imitate the indefinite sustain of high-pitched violins. By using harmonics across all four parts, and interleaving the repetitions, we can get a convincing sustain (or plucking at random times across the parts, or even a tremolo would also create the illusion of indefinite sustain). But if it doesn’t work in your ensemble, simply start the piece at A and omit all harmonics from that point onwards.My arrangement will suit an intermediate ensemble. Parts 3 and 4 are slightly easier, but skilled players on these lines can make magic happen by a confident use of articulation to shape the music’s texture.I hope you enjoy performing this!

Indeed, I got called in to sub on a wedding gig on less than a week's notice, and found this song right at the top of the list. Having not played or listened to it... ever, I decided to display some semblance of due dilligence and write out a version that would work in the range of a solo instrumental violin. Then, and don't ask me where this sudden magnanimous streak came from, I decided to spin up the same chart with lyrics and chord diagrams just in case I ever needed to play it with a vocalist.Out of the goodness of my heart, ALL of the above is available to you for the low low price of about 5 bucks. While I was tabbing this out from the perspective of a violinist, the range is pretty universal and should be playable on just about any treble clef instrument. Including the viola... although if you got hired to play solo viola at a wedding or a cocktail hour I have questions.It's nothing spectacular, but here's what I can promise you if you buy this chart:- THE CHORDS ARE RIGHT. I honestly can't believe there are people that get the chords to songs like these wrong on their arrangements, but here we are. Rest assured I am not one of them.- YOU CAN ACTUALLY READ IT. Finale collisions and terrible interpretations of vocal rhythms need not apply here.- THE MELODY WILL WORK ON YOUR INSTRUMENT. Again, this is not one of those hyper-transcriptions of every little vocal ornament that was sang on the studio version. I purposefully chose where to simplify vs. embellish the melody so that there's room for instrumental interpretation without getting lost in the details.May this humble arranger's last-minute busy work bring joy to your audience and at least an extra 30 minutes of sleep to you by not having to learn this song the night before the gig. Enjoy the hustle, friends.
