Fantasia on My Father’s World opens with a melodic thread flowing like a river from horn to horn before glimpses of the melody appear. The melody coalesces in the first horn part while the river flows and swirls underneath. Following a brief interlude, the melody reappears in the second horn part before eddies and current move the melodic line from horn to horn. This intermediate level, two and a half minute piece is well-suited for performances as part of a worship service as well as part of a concert repertoire.

This piece is for the formation of Brass ensemble. It's about passage, about path, about life and about death. I began to write this piece from a rhythmic ostinato that came to me from the machine that monitored my father's health in the hospital in his last days of life.This ostinato immediately referred me to a clave of a candomblé rhythm called batá. From this rhytmic motive that accompanies us on this path, the theme emerges as if it were a distant corner that resonsin our existence. The ideas that accompany emerge and transform, bringing to this passage between life and death, this environment of the existence of the work.Listening is an immersion in this moment that we don't know, but we can imagine.This timeless space arises from passage between life and death, death and life.

This brilliant, tour de force arrangement for brass band is guaranteed to inspire performers and excite audiences as it captures the energy of the Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's 1911 orchestral showpiece. Born of an African father, Coleridge-Taylor was an early 20th century English composer and conductor who was an influential advocate for Black composers. Originating in Africa and developed in Haiti, the Bamboula was danced for festivals and ceremonies. The 11 minute arrangement has an optional cut to make it seven minutes and is scored for British brass band instrumentation of E-flat cornet, B-flat cornets, flugelhorn, E-flat alto horns, baritone horn, euphonium, trombones and E-flat and B-flat basses with parts sets in treble clef except for the bass trombone. RBMusic #841560. Published by RBMusic (A0.1246889). This fanfare was written to enter the Arts Active's Fanfare Competition, in celebration of St. David's Hall 40th Birthday. In writing this piece, I researched the musical history of St. David’s Hall. Unfortunately, it has proven very difficult to find specific songs/pieces from some of the key events (the only clip I could find was the Cory Band playing John Mile’s Music), so I focused on brass bands and Wales.The pieces incorporates Men of Harlech (Rhyfelgyrch Gwŷr Harlech), Land of My Fathers (Hen Wlad fy Nhadau) and Philip Sparke’s The Year of the Dragon. Growing up with brass band, I heard Men of Harlech a lot and it has always been my “go to†Welsh piece. Land of My Fathers is the unofficial anthem of Wales. As for The Year of the Dragon, it was used both times that St. David’s Hall has hosted the European Brass Band Championships: it was used as the set test pieces in 1986 for Desford Colliery Dowty Band’s historic victory (under Howard Snell) and as the own choice test piece in 1992 as part of Britannia Building Society (now Fodens) Band’s winning performances (again under Howard Snell). The Year of the Dragon is also a popular piece of music in the brass-band world and has much significance to me personally.The name of piece comes from the GPS location of St. David’s Hall (51.48022° N, 3.17653° W), rounded to the nearest integer: the actual location of 51° N, 3° W is just off of the A378 in North Curry in Taunton, Somerset, England. The competition stipulated that the fanfare was to be composed for a maximum of five standard brass band instruments and so was written for 2 Cornets, Tenor Horn, Trombone or Euphonium and Eb Bass. An additional score and parts have been provided for a more traditional brass quintet set up.

This brilliant brass band arrangement captures the brilliance and excitement of the Coleridge-Taylor's orchestral showpiece Danse Nègre from his African Suite, Op. 35. Born of an African father, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor was an early 20th century English composer and conductor who was an influential advocate for Black composers. The five-minute arrangement is scored for a traditional British Brass Band of soprano E-flat cornet, B-flat cornets, flugelhorn, 3 E-flat alto horns, 2 baritone horns, euphonium, and E-flat and B-flat bass. A complete set of substitute parts are include for common band brass instruments being F horn substitutes for E-flat alto horns and all low brass instruments set in the bass clef.
