This is Mozart's arrangement of the 2nd and 3rd movements of Bach's Organ Sonata No. 2 in C minor, BWV 526. Mozart wrote this to play at the Sunday musicales of Baron van Swieten in Vienna, who insisted that all participants play music of Bach or Handel. Kaplan is engaged in a project to make classics from other genres available to woodwind players and has also arranged several other great works for this ensemble. The woodwind quintet is especially well suited for contrapuntal music since the distinctive tone colors of the wind instruments bring out the contrapuntal lines and make them clearer to the listener.Note that all six preludes and all six fugues from this work are also available as a single purchase on this website. This fifth Prelude and Fugue is being made available here for those who would rather buy one prelude and fugue at a time.

Arranged double wind quintet Dvořák initially wrote the Suite in A major for piano, Op. 98, B. 184, in New York between February 19 and March 1, 1894.[1] He orchestrated it in two parts more than a year after his return to the United States and immediately before his departure for Europe. The piano version was performed soon after its composition, but the orchestral version waited some years. The orchestral version of the American Suite was first played in concert in 1910 and not published until 1911, seven years after Dvořák's death in 1904. This movement was used in the trailer for the video game: The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall.

The complete set arranged wind dectet and bass Romanian Folk Dances Sz. 56, BB 68 is a suite of six short piano pieces composed by Béla Bartók in 1915. He later orchestrated it for small ensemble in 1917 as Sz. 68, BB 76. It is based on seven Romanian tunes from Transylvania, originally played on fiddle or shepherd's flute. The original name for the piece was titled Romanian Folk Dances from Hungary but was later changed by Bartók when Transylvania became part of Romania in 1920. It is nowadays available in the 1971 edition which is written with key signatures although Bartók rarely ever used key signatures. This set of dances consists of six movements and, according to the composer, it should take four minutes and three seconds to perform, but most professional pianists take up to five minutes. The list of the movements is as follows (with the original Hungarian title listed first, the most commonly known Romanian title second, and the English translation in parentheses): Bot tánc / Jocul cu bâtă (Stick Dance)The melody of the first movement, according to Bartók, came from the Mezőszabad (present-day Voiniceni) village that was part of Mezőcsávás (present-day Ceuașu de Câmpie) commune which was located in the Maros-Tordaadministrative county within Transylvania, and he first heard it when two gypsy violinists were playing it. Brâul (Sash Dance)The second movement is a typical dance from Romania called Brâul, for which traditionally a sash or a waistband was used. This melody came from Egres (present-day Igriș), in the Banat region. Topogó / Pe loc (In One Spot)The third dance comes also from Egres (Igriș), but its theme is much darker and its melody recreates Middle Eastern instruments, such as the flute.[4] Bucsumà tánc / Buciumeana (Dance from Bucsum)The fourth dance came from Bucsony, Alsó-Fehér County (today Bucium, Alba county in Romania) Román polka / Poarga Românească (Romanian Polka)The fifth dance is an old Romanian dance similar to the Polka and comes from Belényes (present-day Beiuş, in Bihor county), near the border between Hungary and Romania. Aprózó / Mărunțel (Fast Dance)The sixth and last dance is formed by two different melodies: the first one comes from Belényes (present-day Beiuș) and the second one comes from the then named Nyagra (present-day Neagra) village within the Palotailva (present-day Lunca Bradului) commune. Both on the orchestral version and on the original piano version, the final two dances are performed attacca-without a break between movements.

Något häpnadsväckande har hänt i den svenska dragspelsvärlden de senaste åren, vi har fått en ny idol. Det är häpnadsväckande på två olika sätt: för oss som kan dragspelsvärlden är det ett faktum att Lars Ek har varit med som professionell dragspelare i snart 20 år, sedan han slutade skolan, för det andra: han har blivit en idol som spelar musik och i en stil som har sina rötter 50 år tillbaka i dragspelsmusikens historia. Man kan säga att Lars Ek, idag 35 år, borde ha varit 85 år, verksam på 30-talet. Själv erkänner han att han känner en slags hemlig längtan tillbaka till en tid då dragspelare var ekvilibrister, då dragspelare spelade på ett briljant sätt, den guldålder det var för all dragspelsmusik över hela världen, en tid som vi aldrig kommer att möta igen. Det är en typ av musik som är historisk men som inte hör hemma på museerna, inte död, det är en typisk musik fylld av liv. Mycket tack vare Lars Ek. Det är en ganska anmärkningsvärd situation. Lars Ek har spelat dragspel länge, han har spelat all typ av musik som kan spelas på dragspel. För bara några år sedan kom han i kontakt med Nils Lind och Ragge Sundquist (två legendariska svenska artister från 30- och 40-talen, båda döda sedan länge – de grundade båda en skola och en stil) och naturligtvis också Frosini. Och då, äntligen, kände Lars Ek att det var just här, i den här stilen, som han hörde hemma. Lars Ek kom äntligen hem. En del slarviga lyssnare säger att Lars Ek kopierar Nils Linds musik. Det är lyssnare som inte lyssnar. Andra säger att Lars är en galning - han spelar på ett dragspel av märket Raggie Sundquist från 1937 och sedan ett par år äger och spelar han också på ett dragspel som en gång ägdes av Pietro Frosini, tillverkat 1927. Det är inte mani. Stilen efterfrågar sådana instrument. Det är mest korrekt på det sättet. Lars Ek har blivit otroligt populär. Det finns många anledningar. Han har massor av personlighet, han är en scenpersonlighet, han visar entusiasm och glädje när han uppträder, han vet hur man lockar en publik (och tjejerna säger att han är väldigt snygg). En annan anledning är att musiken som Lars framför får mycket respons från publiken. Och snälla, tro inte att det bara är de gamla som var med på 30-talet som älskar musiken - det gör även de unga! Lars Ek x 2 heter skivan. Förklaringen är enkel. Lars kunde inte hitta någon andra dragspelare som kunde hjälpa honom. Så tack vare tekniken är han själv sin egen andra dragspelare i fem av de låtar som framförs. Det finns ytterligare en förklaring. Lars framför melodier kopplade till namn som Nils Lind, Ragge Sundquist och Frosini, men han spelar också fem egna kompositioner. Bara för att visa hur han vill att dragspelsmusik ska vara komponerad. Lars Ek behöver ingen rekommendation, hans skivor säljer ändå. Men du kommer att få några sista ord. Den här skivan är, stilmässigt, väldigt sällsynt att vara inspelad 1982, det gäller att blicka bakåt och att göra det med stor skicklighet, en tillbakablick på dragspelets guldålder. Det är också en väldigt personlig skiva. Inspirationskällan kan mycket väl vara Nils Lind, Ragge Sundquist och Pietro Frosini. Men det är Lars Ek som spelar. På sitt personliga sätt. Vilket gör att detta är en skiva som spelas på ett väldigt personligt sätt.

This is a song composed for a poem of the Chinese classic style called as Xin Yuan Cun (The Spring Comes to a Delightful Garden) - Snow, written by Mao Zedong in February of 1936. But, it was not published until Mao went to Chongqing in 1945 to hold a peace talk with Jiang Jieshi (Chiang Kai-shek). It was said that the poem was sent to Mr. Liu Ya-zi as a gift. Mao and Jiang had been deadly enemies in their whole lives. Mao defeated Jiang the finally in 1949 and founded the People's Republic of China. Translated in English by Johnson K. Gao in 2008 at 71 years of age in DallasTexas, USA. The translator had not been born when the poem was written. Gao had composed a song for that Chinese poem. The sound track was selected in a CD called as For Love, For Snow and For Echo http://cdbaby.com/cd/johnsongao2 and music sheet was collected in Gao’s Music for Olympic Games http://www.lulu.com/content/2102738 .
