Two Voltas - Dances 201 and 210 from Terpsichore (Praetorius) for Wind Instruments

Small Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522161 Composed by Various. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Instructional,Renaissance. Score and parts. 4 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #3928085. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522161). By the time Michael Praetorius published his extensive dance collection entitled Terpsichore (terp-SIH-cory) in 1612, he was one of the most famous musicians in Germany. These two Voltas are well-known and lively dances and sure to add some sparkle to any event. This piece is arranged for virtually any combination of conventional wind instruments and percussion, with optional keyboard part. The first Volta uses interesting and catchy syncopation, giving the impression that it’s in duple time time but it’s written in triple time.In this series, Renaissance Hits for Wind Instruments, some of the most well-known dances from Terpsichore are included. They are all attractive pieces and are sure to be popular at any concerts or end-of-semester events. They are fairly easy to play too. The flexible arrangement makes them playable by all sorts of non-standard ensembles. The keyboard part enables you to use the piece as a solo or duet and trio for mixed instruments. This 4-part arrangement is presented in a single PDF file which includes the Full Score; Part 1 (C, B flat, E flat); Part 2 (C, B flat, E flat); Part 3 (C, F, B flat, E flat), Part 4 (C, B flat, E flat); Keyboard and Percussion. The optional keyboard part is intended as a guide and when possible the keyboard player should improvise around the part and chords shown. A piano sounds distinctly out of place in this music and a digital or acoustic harpsichord sounds more authentic. Most electronic keyboards have a harpsichord option. The percussion instruments used are similar to those found in elementary school music rooms and usually include a hand-held drum, clave or small headless tambourine. Two players are usually required and the parts can be interpreted quite freely. Other percussion instruments may be added as desired. Dance music is intended to be fun, and we hope that this arrangement brings you just that. Â

Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #6350391. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522264). GAILLARDE l’ESMERILLONNEGaillarde No 6, Premier Livre de Danseries (Pierre Phalèse, Leuven 1571) for Wind Instruments Pierre Phalèse (1510-1575) was a Flemish publisher and his First Book of Dances, an extensive collection of dances in four parts, was published in Leuven in 1571. They are attractive pieces and are sure to be popular at any concerts, public recitals or end-of-semester events. During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the gaillarde (or galliard) was a popular dance and a favorite of Queen Elizabeth I of England. This is the 6th dance in a set of 20 gaillardes in the original publication. This arrangement is scored for virtually any combination of conventional wind instruments with optional percussion and keyboard parts. The flexible arrangement enables them to be played by non-standard ensembles. The optional keyboard part enables you to use the piece as a solo or duet and trio for mixed instruments. This 4-part arrangement is presented in a single PDF file which includes the Full Score; Part 1 (C, B flat, E flat); Part 2 (C, B flat, E flat); Part 3 (C, F, B flat, E flat), Part 4 (C, B flat, E flat); Keyboard and Percussion. A piano sounds distinctly out of place in this music and a digital or acoustic harpsichord sounds more authentic. Most electronic keyboards have a harpsichord option. The score and set of parts come in a single PDF file. Some small modifications have been made to the inner parts in the original to facilitate performance. The percussion instruments used are similar to those found in elementary school music rooms and two players are required. Small Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522175 Composed by Pierre Phalèse. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Christmas,Holiday,Renaissance,Wedding. Score and parts. 26 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #6088861. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522175). Pierre Phalèse (1510-1575) was a Flemish publisher and his First Book of Dances, an extensive collection of dances in four parts, was published in Leuven in 1571. They are attractive pieces and are sure to be popular at any concerts, public recitals or end-of-semester events. During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the pavane and gaillarde were both popular dances and frequently paired. These are the third and fourth paired dances in the original publication. This arrangement is scored for virtually any combination of conventional wind instruments and percussion, with optional keyboard part. The flexible arrangement makes them playable by all sorts of non-standard ensembles. The percussion instruments used are similar to those found in elementary school music rooms and two players are usually required. Other percussion instruments may be added as desired. Dance music is intended to be fun, and we hope that this arrangement brings you just that.

Two Rondes from Danserye (Tielman Susato, 1551) for Wind Instruments

Small Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522187 Composed by Tielman Susato. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Christmas,Holiday,Renaissance. Score and parts. 26 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #6371719. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522187). The instrumental music of the renaissance is enjoying an enormous revival and this arrangement of two dances is sure to brighten up your musical event. The dances come from one of the earliest collections of instrumental dance music, published in Antwerp in 1551 by Tielman (or Tylman) Susato and entitled Danserye. Little is known of Susato’s life except that he was born sometime between 1500 and 1515 and eventually became a successful calligrapher and publisher. Danserye contains about sixty numbers some of which have become well known since their revival in the middle of the 20th century. The two rondes in this arrangement are the first and sixth dances taken from a set of nine. Some of the dances have names and the first ronde is entitled Pour quoy? It is paired with the sixth ronde which has become one of the most well-known pieces in the collection. Several changes have been made to the inner parts to facilitate performance and the first ronde has been transposed down a fifth. Musicians would often combine several dances to make a more substantial piece and were expected to add embellishments to the melody, particularly in repeated sections. In the spirit of the original, this four-part arrangement uses flexible instrumentation so that you have total control over the instrumental voicing. The arrangement could be played by virtually any combination of conventional wind instruments. This 4-part arrangement is presented in a single PDF file which includes the Full Score; Part 1 (C, B flat, E flat); Part 2 (C, B flat, E flat); Part 3 (C, F, B flat, E flat), Part 4 (C, B flat, E flat); Keyboard and Percussion. The optional keyboard and percussion parts are the additions of the arranger and do not appear in the original. This arrangement uses conventional percussion that can be found in any elementary school music room. The percussion parts may be interpreted freely and additional instruments added if required.

Small Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522186 Composed by Unknown. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Christmas,Holiday,Renaissance. Score and parts. 27 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #6363609. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522186). These are two charming dances taken from a collection entitled Recueil de danseries, contenant presque toutes sortes de danses (“Collection of dances, containing almost all kinds of dancesâ€) published in Antwerp in 1583 by Pierre Phalèse Jnr (c.1545-1629). He was continuing the work of his father Pierre Phalèse the Elder (1510-1575) the most important publisher in the Low Countries during the 16th century and who published his First Book of Dances in Leuven in 1571. The Antwerp publication of 1583 contains about half the dances from the original 1571 edition, together with some new titles, making a total of about seventy numbers. The 1583 collection contains a large selection of gaillardes, almandes and bransles which were all popular courtly dances of the time. The lively and well-known piece entitled Ungaresca appears on page 24 of the original publication. The drone accompaniment that Phalèse provides suggests the sound of the peasant bagpipes. The name Ungaresca is a term used outside Hungary to denote a dance in the Hungarian style and this particular one probably first appeared in a 1578 dance collection for viol consort - Mainerio's Primo libro de balli. As a result, the music is sometimes attributed to Mainerio. In this arrangement, Ungaresca is paired with the delightful Almande Poussinghe which appears on page 16 of the original. This wonderful music of the 16th century still speaks to us today and this arrangement would be an ideal concert item, playable by virtually any combination of conventional wind instruments with optional percussion and keyboard parts. The optional keyboard part enables you to use the piece as a solo or duet and trio for mixed instruments. Some minor changes have been made to the inner parts to facilitate performance. This 4-part arrangement is presented in a single PDF file which includes the Full Score; Part 1 (C, B flat, E flat); Part 2 (C, B flat, E flat); Part 3 (C, F, B flat, E flat), Part 4 (C, B flat, E flat); Keyboard and Percussion. Your Favorite Christmas Hymns and Carols for Wind Instruments
Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick
Book 1

This essential collection may be all you ever need for your wind instruments at Christmas. It's a bargain price too! The arrangements are intended either as stand-alone pieces that could be used as interludes in a service, or they could be used to accompany solo, choral or congregational singing.

The publication consists of a four-staff score in concert pitch together with fourteen separate parts in various transpositions. There is also a fairly easy optional keyboard part. These four-part arrangements use flexible instrumentation so that you can exercise considerable control over the instrumental voicing. You can also create interesting instrumental tone colour by omitting groups of instruments. This can be achieved with the aid of a pencil. If the ensemble is large enough you could omit brass instruments in the quieter sections, or use a solo trumpet against a woodwind background. There are endless possibilities. You can hear the effect of omitting sections in the audio samples. The arrangements could therefore be played by brass quartet, woodwind quartet, saxophone quartet or virtually any combination of wind instruments. Using the piano part (which has been kept as simple as possible) the arrangements could also be used as solos or duets, depending of what instruments are available. Parts 1 and 2 in C have been printed an octave higher than the pitch shown in the score because the parts invariably are too low for flute or oboe. They are allattractive pieces and are sure to be popular at any concerts or end-of-semesterevents. They are fairly easy to play too. The flexible arrangement makes themplayable by all sorts of non-standard ensembles. The keyboard part allows you to use them as solos or duets for mixed instruments.

This publication consists of a score showing the four-partensemble, keyboard and percussion parts. There are separate parts in varioustranspositions. The optional keyboard part is intended as a guide and whenpossible the keyboard player should improvise around the part and chords shown.A piano sounds distinctly out of place in this music and a digital or acousticharpsichord sounds more authentic. Most electronic keyboards have a harpsichordoption.

The percussion instruments used are similar to those foundin elementary school music rooms and usually include a small bass drum orhand-held drum, clave or small headless tambourine. Two players are usuallyrequired and the parts can be interpreted quite freely. Dance music is intendedto be fun, and we hope that this arrangement brings you just that.
