Heroic Music - A Suite of Twelve Short Marches (Complete) - Georg Philipp Telemann - Trumpet Quintet, Timpani - Intermediate - .Heroic Music (or Heldenmusik) is a suite of twelve short marches and processionals, written by Georg Philipp Telemann in 1728, and is associated with various attributes of Heroism such as Dignity, Bravery and Alertness. All twelve movements have now been transcribed and arranged by Regis Bookshar to be played by Trumpet Quintets or Brass Quintets. Some of them have also been aranged for Sextets, Septets, Octets, Nonets and Brass Choirs. Some also include a Timpani. They can be purchased individually, or, if you prefer, as a complete set of all twelve at a huge saving.Any of these selections would be a wonderful addition to any music library, but this complete set of all twelve would be fabulous. They are perfectly suited to recitals and public performances, can stand alone as short interludes and are generally well received by audiences. They are suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing these arrangements. These selections are some of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. In the past, these compositions have often been performed by a soloist playing on a Piccolo Trumpet, but these new arrangements are Bb Trumpet friendly as one player stated after playing through them, making them much easier for most high school students.This selection, Heroic Music - A Suite of Twelve Marches (Complete), is arranged for a Trumpet Quintet and for some selections, a Timpani. There is a version for a Trumpet Quintet, without the Timpani, if you prefer. The twelve movements are as follows: No.Â Â 1. La Majeste (associated with Dignity); No.Â Â 2. La Grace (associated with Grace); No.Â Â 3. La Vaillance (associated with Bravery); No.Â Â 4. La Tranquillite (associated with Composure); No.Â Â 5. L'Armement (associated with Rearmament); No.Â Â 6. L'Amour (associated with Love); No.Â Â 7. La Vigilance (associated with Alertness); No.Â Â 8. La Gaillardise (associated with Abandon); No.Â Â 9. La Douceur (associated with Gentleness); No. 10. La Generosite (associated with Magnanimity); No. 11. L'Esperance (associated with Hope); and No. 12. La Rejouissance (associated with Joy). Included are scores and a complete set of parts (157 pages).These selections are readily available for a variety of instrumental ensembles. From the composer's program notes included with this purchase:I have taken Schubertâ€™s famous setting and arranged it in a set of musical homages to other composers. I have also included Schubertâ€™s original theme, transposed down to F, and I would recommend playing it twice in the beginning to give your audience a good idea of it.For most of the pieces, I tried to capture the composerâ€™s overall style; however, there are a few particular pieces that are either quoted or used as the stylistic basis, as follows: Mozart - I based this variation, stylistically, on Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major (K.467), specifically movement two (Andante), as well as some of his earliest childhood piano compositions. Symphony 40 in G minor (K.550) is quoted rhythmically. Strauss, Jr. - For inspiration, I used Du und Du, Op. 367, a waltz that is derived from various parts of his beloved operetta, Die Fledermaus. I quoted rhythms from this, as well as from FrÃ¼hlingsstimmen, Op. 410. Joplin - I didnâ€™t base this on any particular piece of Joplinâ€™s; I tried to include elements that are common in his rags (a short introduction, arpeggiated diminished seventh chords, chromaticism, syncopation over a boom-chuck). Perhaps the best advice comes from Joplin himself: Donâ€™t play this piece fast. It is never right to play ragtime fast. Porter - I had to include an offering from the Great American Songbook! Frank Sinatra recorded several of Porterâ€™s well-known tunes in the 1940s, such as Easy To Love, Night and Day, and I Love You; his renditions of these songs are heavy on the schmaltz and sentimentality, which is exactly what I was trying to achieve in this variation.Bach - The minor variation! I had Fugue in G minor, BWV 578 (Little Fugue) in mind when writing this.der JodelkÃ¶nig - As HeidenrÃ¶slein is a strophic, folk-songesque German piece, I thought it fitting to end the variations with an imitation of traditional Alpine yodeling. It is named in honor of Franzl Lang, the Yodelking.
