Grim (A0.939388). Watershed is a solo for low E double seconds written in the spring of 2021. With some motifs being written in 2016, this piece has been waiting a long time to be complete. The aesthetic is not of calypso or soca, but calm motions that flow like swirling water. The 7th chord motif is one that moves the work forward while still remaining harmonically stagnant, just like water flowing down a river. The glasslike water on top shows calmness and reflection, while the water below is moving and teeming with life. This is a reflection on the nature of life as a student, and is one last effort to find stasis in turbulence. This was my first solo pan work written.

Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8188-E). English.This work was composed for a large choral ensemble of approximately 90 voices with the capability of dividing into two choirs. The division that actually does occur in this piece is an “internal†division rather than an “external†one. Therefore, it is not necessary for the singers to be physically divided into two separate groups with a space between them, but rather, the singers may remain in their usual arrangement in the chorus and sing the double chorus section with the effect of an internal, reflective type of sound rather than the more commonly used antiphonal sound with a spatial effect created by physical separation of the two choruses. Based on a poem by Thomas Merton, the text speaks of the anticipation of events yet to be fulfilled. In more specific terms, the poem is an Advent poem which heralds of the birth of Jesus through the use of texts from biblical arables and from other Gospel narratives combined with images of everyday experiences, such as church bells, birds, water, and the fields and trees that were familiar to Merton’s Trappist community. Oboe part included in score.

Tales of the Great Water is comprised of three short stories. Kinship -The Gathering is a tale of friendship conjuring up images of a place where cultures merged, and people from all over gathered. Shoreline Poem is a tale of longing. So many who settled near the shores of the Great Water, once had a life in another place, perhaps in a distant land. Standing on these remote shores, they can only imagine other places or times. Boundless is a tale of sailing. An adventurous romp on the water awaits our hearty sailors in this tale with stories to tell upon their return. The delightful stories are enhanced with optional flute or violin, drum, chime tree and suspended cymbal.

Walk Like an Egyptian is a song by American band the Bangles. It was released in September 1986 as the third single from their second studio album, Different Light (1986). It was the band's first number-one single, and was ranked Billboard's number-one song of 1987. Liam Sternberg said he was inspired to create the song while on a ferry crossing the English Channel. When the vessel hit choppy water, passengers stepped carefully and moved their arms awkwardly while struggling to maintain their balance, and that reminded Sternberg of the depiction of human figures in ancient Egyptian tomb paintings. He wrote the words Walk like an Egyptian in a notebook. Later, Sternberg looked back in the notebook, and composing the melody with a guitar, he put together an up-tempo song with lyrics about Egyptian hieroglyphs, the Nile River, crocodiles, desert sand, bazaars and hookah pipes and then segued into modern scenes of blonde waitresses, school kids and police officers. This arrangement shows off the Brass Band to be capable to play a wider variety of music.

Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.576905). Instrumental arrangement of my classical-folk crossover setting of Prévert's poem Pour faire le portrait d'un oiseau (To paint the portrait of a bird). Prévert indicates that you can never capture the real essence of a bird. You can paint a cage, a tree branch for it to sing on, but you have to wait for the actual bird itself to enter your painting - only then can you sign your painting, using a feather from that bird. The music has a Dorian feel - ie with a minor third and seventh but often with a raised sixth - (in this case F#s in an otherwise A minor context). I have provided full score and separate parts and also the melody instrument part with chord names, to enable the guitarist to read along with the melody instrument player and opt for interpretations other than the notated version (eg strumming, rasgueado etc). The opera opens with the former Czar lamenting his fall from power and precarious circumstances. His wife, Anexandra, consoles him and they sing of their undying love in the duet, One Love Forever.One by one, the children awake and join them on stage. Anastasia dramatically portrays a dream she has just had. Then, in an upbrat song of hope she explains her optimistic outlook in My Name Is Anastasia. The ensemble joins her at the end, assuring one another they will all soon be rising up to life again. To while away the time, the family pretends they are at the French Ambassador's New Year's Ball.At the height of the ensuing waltz, Comrade Sladislav, Captain of the Red Guard, and a band of revolutionary guards burst it. Sladislav harangues Nicholas and the family. Then, in the vindictive Song of the Revolution, he extols the greatness of la Révolution as the family watches in fear. Nicholas and Alexandra remind each other of their one love forever and the children look for dawn in darkest night. The Captain then marches the family down to the cellar (off-stage), ostensibly to await transport. Thus trapped, they are easy prey for the revolvers of Sladislav and his men. The self-satisfies revolutionary reemerges and makes his closing statements before exiting.Scored for piano and percussion. In contrast to Poe’s To Helen, which treats a similar subject of a chance meeting of a stranger that the poet loves, Whitman does not idealize his subject but rather pointedly and brutally describes how he sees this person and what feelings (both negative and positive) this contemplation provokes in the poet’s mind In order to reflect this musically, there is an alternation between more introspective and brooding sections which are then followed by more ecstatic outbursts. The piece ends with the poet watching the stranger leave, expressing what the composer felt to be acceptance and release.As in any chamber music with voice, it is important that the two instruments allow the voice to predominate, regardless of the dynamics marked in their parts. The saxophonist should try as much as possible to match colour with the voice,in order to allow the contrapuntal exchanges between the voice and the saxophone to blend evenly. Published by JohnWillard Utuk (A0.1257964). The High Priestess is a chamber work for mixed instrumentation, including an F Horn with piano, violin, and flute. This piece is inspired by the artwork of the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck, specifically the less credited illustrator of the world famous deck, Pamela Colman Smith. The music represents the symbolism and feeling behind the High Priestess card, with keywords of strength, adaptability, seriousness, intuition, loving understanding, knowledge, introspection, and self-trust. Each instrument is featured throughout, as the main melody and distinct rhythms are traded and dovetailed around the ensemble. The piece begins with a feeling of watery calm (e.g. Venetian Boat songs), ascends to a hopeful journey, moves through tense trials, then returning back to the distant flute melody, followed by a piano “solo†that ultimately inspired this chamber work in the first place. This work is great for high school, collegiate, amateur, or professional ensembles, as well as very advanced young chamber players looking for something new and fresh. Rhythms are simple, while expression and musicality can be explored. In performance, be mindful of balance issues, so seating arrangement can be adjusted. I recommend the horn player be seated on the outside, so as not to cover up the flute. Average performance time: ca. 4:30Other instrumentations are in progress, so please check back for updated editions. The original instrumentation involved the oboe and cello. Experiencing High Volumes (2014) triet 6 minutes Composed for the Severnside Composers Alliance’s second Three is the Magic Number concerts of contemporary piano triets at the Lantern, Colston Hall, Bristol in 2014, performed by Milena Zhivotovskaya, Rob Broomfield and John Pitts. This is pleasant, relaxing armchair music, which doesn’t actually get particularly loud. I have Francisco Tárrega (1852-1909) to thank for a motif that recurs through the piece – a short section of his Gran Vals, which you may recognise. I have omitted the last note of the original melody, which is actually an octave down from a more familiar version you may know. Before this motif made its way into this piece I had considered a title along the lines of Cycle of Thirds for harmonic reasons which may be obvious. But I put that idea permanently on hold after trying to get through to a utilities company. In retrospect, I should have ensured that the end looped neatly back to the beginning (which sadly it doesn’t quite), so that I could attempt to sell a recording of this piece to businesses for their call waiting music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4MDdZpWQNA
