O Holy Night is a well-known Christmas carol composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847 to the French poem Minuit, chrÃ©tiens (Midnight, Christians) written by a wine merchant and poet, Placide Cappeau (1808â€“1877). In both the French original and the English version of the carol, as well as many other languages, the text reflects on the birth of Jesus and on humanity's redemption. The Duration is approx. 3.38 minutes and the level is Early Intermediate. This arrangement could be played with the Drum Set. The Londonderry Air was first collected and notated in the mid-nineteenth century in County Londonderry in the North of Ireland, however, the origins of the melody remain unknown. In 1913 the English writer Frederic Weatherley set his poem Danny Boy to the melody. There are many other settings of the Londonderry Air, with various lyrics and in musical styles from orchestral to brass band to jazz, but Danny Boy remains the best known.Londonderry Air is simply arranged in accessible keys and over a range best suited to the instruments. The melody is played twice with a key change and different accompaniment on the second verse and is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of a little over three minutes, this version of Londonderry Air is perfect for recitals and concert performance.
