10 Latin Duets is an exciting collection of original compositions by David McKeown, arranged as duets for two Cellos.

Each piece explores a different style and flavour of Latin music, from the Rumbas, Salsas and Mambos of Cuba, to the Sambas and Bossas of Brazil, and on to the Calypsos and Merengues of the Caribbean. Mexico is represented by the Huapango, Venezuela and Colombia by the Joropo, and Argentina and Uruguay by the Tango.

Most of these duets are ideal for players of an Intermediate standard, with two or three more suitable for Advanced Intermediate. This duet is inspired by the French Chanson style associated with café life in Paris and beyond. This music has its roots in La Belle Epoque and was popularized by singers such as Édith Piaf, Jacques Brel and Charles Aznavour. Long associated with romance, L?Amour is just what?s needed when love is in the air.

L?Amour is written for players at an intermediate standard and upwards. The melody should always flow; following the articulation in the score and adding plenty of expression will help convey the style. L?Amour has a performance time of around three minutes.

These duet studies are intended as a companion volume and as additional exercises to the method 'Cello mit Spass und Hugo', but they are equally well suited as complementary material to any other course of study. Each piece tackles a clearly defined technical or tonal task, yet they are meant to be fun and useful additional to the chamber music repertoire in their own right. Initially the upper part is intended for the pupil, the lower one for the teacher. But as both parts are comparatively equal, they could also be attempted by two pupils. For group tuition it is suggested to introduce a couple of rhythmical accompanying parts.
