This arrangement adapted for violoncello duo was designed to make its listeners weep with emotion, because the adaptation preserves the original essence of the work, keeping its integrity faithful to what Beethoven wanted to transmit, with only a slight change in tone and addition of harmonic resources in the structure of the arrangement. Even though it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion, being intended for beginner students who want to immerse themselves in the universe of romantic music, and nothing better than starting with the transitional composer of this period, which also does not prevent professional teachers from using it for recitals, academic presentations or didactic material in their classes as an ensemble practice.Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C minor sharp, Op. 27, No. 2, is one of his most popular compositions and was an audience favorite even in his day. Written when Beethoven was 31, the Moonlight Sonata (Mondscheinsonate in German) was composed after he finished some commissioned works, but there is no evidence that he was hired to write this work. It did not receive its nickname until 1832, five years after Beethoven's death. It was the critic Ludwig Rellstab who compared the music to a moonlighting on Lake Lucerne. This comparison was adopted as a nickname for the work. Called Quasi una fantasia by the author - like its companion Op. 27, No. 1 - the piece was completed in 1801 and dedicated the following year to one of the composer's pupils. Beethoven chose to open the sonata with a slow, hypnotic arpeggio movement, the best known of the entire work. The dotted rhythm of its minimal melody evokes the tradition of 'Trauermusik' (funeral music).

Time: 5:10 On Saturday afternoon, March 26, 2011, Robert Van Horne, pianist and composer was invited to a special meeting of Bay Area business people. Their purpose - wanting to help the victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami that devastated parts of Japan on March 11th. The meeting was organized by Mr. Alex Kurosawa, president of KPMF and held in San Jose, CA. At the end of the meeting and after much discussion about holding a series of concerts with all funds going to the disaster victims, it was suggested that Robert compose a new song for the project that would let those afflicted in Japan, know they would not be forgotten. I was so inspired by the dedication and volunteerism of all the people at the meeting, Robert says, that I went home and composed a new piece of music with the title: THERE IS HOPE THROUGH MUSIC. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.1266695). Giorgio Gentili was surely one of the most influential musicians in Venice at the beginning of the 18th century. In 1702, or even earlier, he was appointed maestro di instromenti at the prestigious Ospedale dei Mendicanti in Venice, where musicians such as Legrenzi, Biffi and Galuppi worked. In 1689 he became a violinist in the San Marco orchestra and shortly after, in 1691, he was appointed concertmaster. Under his direction he had musicians like Veracini or Giovanni Battista Vivaldi and Antonio Vivaldi. Surely this fact is related to the notable influence of Gentili's concerti on those of Antonio Vivaldi.Gentili's departure from the Ospedale dei Mendicanti in 1717 coincides with the departure to Dresden of other famous Venetian musicians such as Lotti, which gives rise to the suspicion that Gentili was also hired along with these musicians by the Elector of Saxony during his trip to Italy.Gentili was one of those rare musicians who only played instrumental music, at least as far as we know. Gentili published six volumes of music:Op. 1. Suonate a tre, 1701Op. 2. Concerti da camera a tre, 1702Op. 3. Capricci da camera a violino e violoncello o cimbalo, 1707Op. 4. Suonate a tre (lost)Op. 5. Concerti a quattro e cinque, 1708Op. 6. Concerti a quattro, 1716Apart from this work, we find two interesting manuscripts in the Library of the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory in Venice that contain the only two known sonatas for cello and basso continuo by Gentili.

It is an ideal work for advanced players to use in their repetoire or in a concert program.A foreword by the composer:“First and foremost, this work is dedicated to Kristen Scott. It stands as a reminder of a lifelong friendship, and how strong that friendship is. Thank you for supporting me and being so wonderful.This work I began writing in May of this year, and initially it was just an improvisation for one viola. I had then realised after trying to write for Solo Viola how difficult it was, since it is such a unique instrument. I wanted to make the most of the technical and musical capabilities of the instrument, so I added another Viola. With that addition, each motif seemed to make more sense and the music just flowed. Centre is based on the concept of centring oneself, but also the beauty in being surrounded by motion; by seeing things happening around you and being able to observe. Just being allowed to exist, in a way.I’ve always been inspired by Australian composers, especially since I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by their music at different points in my life. My teacher Patricia Pollett, has been actively involved in advocating for Australian composition for the viola, including commissions, recording and performances. So, being able to take my work to our lessons was hugely thought provoking and inspiring. The insights she gave helped to access more depth and meaning within the work.â€.

Kandel’s Hora is a Jewish dance tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for two Cellos.Kandel’s Hora was written and named after Harry Kandel. Born in Lvov, and after a short period in the Russian army, Kandel emigrated to the USA in 1905 and quickly found work as a clarinettist in vaudeville, Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show and JP Sousa’s band. A brief but productive period as band-leader and recording artist followed, after which Kandel retired from performing to run a music shop.Kandel’s Hora is arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. A slow Hora in triple meter is followed by a faster Freylach version of the same melody in 4. Kandel’s Hora is suitable for players at an advanced intermediate level and above. With a performance time of three minutes, this version of Kandel’s Hora is perfect for concert performances, both formal and informal. It isn’t completely clear where the title 7.40pm comes from. One interpretation is that 7.40pm was the time the Odessa tram conductors finished work and danced to this tune. But there are versions titled 7.40am which may refer to the time of Jewish early morning prayers. Whatever the origin, there are several Russian recordings of 7.40pm that predate the 1917 revolution.7.40pm is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. After a slow and expressively beginning, the melody switches to dance tempo. 7.40pm is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of a little over three minutes, this version of 7.40pm is perfect for recital and concert performances, both formal and informal.
