The Easter Egg Rock is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for two Cellos. The Easter Egg Rock is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets each written in a different American dance style. Modern Rock music has its origins in Rock’n’Roll, with the first use of the word in 1951 by an Ohio DJ. The first big hit was Bill Haley’s Rock Around the Clockin 1955, but other artists such as Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley, Gene Vincent and Little Richard all have strong claims to being the first Rock’n’Roll artist.The Easter Egg Rock is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible key and range balanced by the fast tempo and syncopated rhythms and accidentals. The lower part drives the music playing eighth note power chords (aka perfect fifths). The first part sings over the top with a variation of long notes and fast notes. Doing this in C minor gives it a dark rock atmosphere. Both parts get a chance to show off a bit with one of the hardest parts being in the 2nd cello half way through, feel free to switch that to the first part if need be. It's not too hard. You could expect upper high school players to college players to play it without too much difficulty. Have fun enjoying this rocking piece.

Despite the song’s appearance relatively late in the Beatles’ discography, it was one of the first songs that Paul McCartney wrote, at the age of 16. When the song was finally recorded in 1966, Paul McCartney felt it was too slow and turgid. George Martin simply solved the problem by speeding up the tape and raising the pitch by one semitone. This version of When I’m Sixty-Four is arranged as a duet for two Cellos.
