Position playing with a difference - with motivating duets in popular styles which are fun to play. The player progresses in small steps from half- to 7th-position, thus covering the whole range. Each position is first isolated and then practiced alternately with others. The order of the pieces is flexible so that the collection can be used additionally to any cello method.
The second part is position-independent and intended for the teacher or advanced pupil. This way, it is fun to learn to change positions.
The original two-volume work has been brought together and rearranged in the present new edition which now provides information on all aspects of position changes in one volume.

10 Latin Duets is an exciting collection of original compositions by David McKeown, arranged as duets for two Cellos.

Each piece explores a different style and flavour of Latin music, from the Rumbas, Salsas and Mambos of Cuba, to the Sambas and Bossas of Brazil, and on to the Calypsos and Merengues of the Caribbean. Mexico is represented by the Huapango, Venezuela and Colombia by the Joropo, and Argentina and Uruguay by the Tango.

Most of these duets are ideal for players of an Intermediate standard, with two or three more suitable for Advanced Intermediate. This is to depict that the great composers were 'human' and suffered hard times, but overcame their difficulties to become the best they could be. The majority of the pieces are written for the piano and violin and transcribed to let the cellists have fun too. Second cello parts are written to be interesting and stimulating both rhythmically and melodically; all typeset in a larger font appealing to children.

These duet studies are intended as a companion volume and as additional exercises to the method 'Cello mit Spass und Hugo', but they are equally well suited as complementary material to any other course of study. Each piece tackles a clearly defined technical or tonal task, yet they are meant to be fun and useful additional to the chamber music repertoire in their own right. Initially the upper part is intended for the pupil, the lower one for the teacher. But as both parts are comparatively equal, they could also be attempted by two pupils.
