Position playing with a difference - with motivating duets in popular styles which are fun to play. The player progresses in small steps from half- to 7th-position, thus covering the whole range. Each position is first isolated and then practiced alternately with others. The order of the pieces is flexible so that the collection can be used additionally to any cello method.
The second part is position-independent and intended for the teacher or advanced pupil. This way, it is fun to learn to change positions.

Published by David McKeown (A0.587663). The Trumpet Tune and Air was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop. Written around 1700, for many years this piece was attributed to Henry Purcell. But more recently many have questioned whether the composer was in fact Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. What is known is that the piece was written for a semi-opera called The Island Princess, and that both men contributed music to the production. In recent years this piece has become a popular wedding favourite. This full version is arranged as a duet for two Cellos and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. The short sample here and the full length version on the youtube link are from the Clarinet and Alto Saxophone version of this arrangement.Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The Tulip Ch’Boogie is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets each written in a different American dance style. Boogie originally referred to the piano style found in Southern State bars where the driving swung bass-line, often double in octaves, cut through the noise. These bass-line patterns were adapted by Big Bands in the ‘30s, and later by Jump bands like that of Louis Jordan. Later still Boogie was quickly incorporated into Rockabilly and Rock’n’Roll. The Tulip Ch’Boogie is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible key and range balanced by the fast tempo and syncopated rhythms and accidentals. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. Their purpose - wanting to help the victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami that devastated parts of Japan on March 11th. The meeting was organized by Mr. Alex Kurosawa, president of KPMF and held in San Jose, CA. At the end of the meeting and after much discussion about holding a series of concerts with all funds going to the disaster victims, it was suggested that Robert compose a new song for the project that would let those afflicted in Japan, know they would not be forgotten. I was so inspired by the dedication and volunteerism of all the people at the meeting, Robert says, that I went home and composed a new piece of music with the title: THERE IS HOPE THROUGH MUSIC.
