Joropo de Justina is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Cellos.This duet is based on the traditional Latin style of Joropo which is the national and traditional music of Venezuela. The music and its accompanying dance comes from the central plains area and is also found over the border in parts of Colombia. The basic pulse of the Joropo is 3, but this is overlaid with complex cross-rhythms. The main instrument is the harp, along with cuatro and maracas as the only percussion instrument. In the modern era other instruments may join the ensemble, especially bass. This arrangement represents the song style of Joropo, with the vocal alternating with instrumental breaks.If you play to an advanced intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The many cross rhythms will provide a rhythmic challenge and there is little time to catch breath; following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. Joropo de Justina has a performance time of around two minutes at full tempo. The melody is played by the first cello, while the second cello plays a pizzicato bass line. A third cellist may play the bass clef line of the piano part, if you opt to realize this piece without a piano. The hymn is fully complete when played by two - or three - cellos; the piano is optional. Note: this hymn has been raised a half step, from the hymnal's Ab to A, for ease of string playing. If the pianist knows how to replace flats with sharps, they could easily accompany directly from the hymnal, and the congregation could sing along as the cellos play.

This arrangement adapted for violoncello duo was designed to make its listeners weep with emotion, because the adaptation preserves the original essence of the work, keeping its integrity faithful to what Beethoven wanted to transmit, with only a slight change in tone and addition of harmonic resources in the structure of the arrangement. Even though it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion, being intended for beginner students who want to immerse themselves in the universe of romantic music, and nothing better than starting with the transitional composer of this period, which also does not prevent professional teachers from using it for recitals, academic presentations or didactic material in their classes as an ensemble practice.Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C minor sharp, Op. 27, No. 2, is one of his most popular compositions and was an audience favorite even in his day. Written when Beethoven was 31, the Moonlight Sonata (Mondscheinsonate in German) was composed after he finished some commissioned works, but there is no evidence that he was hired to write this work. It did not receive its nickname until 1832, five years after Beethoven's death. It was the critic Ludwig Rellstab who compared the music to a moonlighting on Lake Lucerne. This comparison was adopted as a nickname for the work. Called Quasi una fantasia by the author - like its companion Op. 27, No. 1 - the piece was completed in 1801 and dedicated the following year to one of the composer's pupils. Beethoven chose to open the sonata with a slow, hypnotic arpeggio movement, the best known of the entire work. The dotted rhythm of its minimal melody evokes the tradition of 'Trauermusik' (funeral music).

I arranged this from the original score. I did not add slurs or grace notes, I leave that up to your personal interpretation. This has some differences from the Suzuki book version. This is in the original key, F-Major. I have another version available that is in G-Major. *Cello 2 fifth mesure, last note a B-flat could be played as a B-natural. Went back a forth on this one so its up to you. I have it marked as a C-Sharp on the G-Major version.
