These duet studies are intended as a companion volume and as additional exercises to the method 'Cello mit Spass und Hugo', but they are equally well suited as complementary material to any other course of study. Each piece tackles a clearly defined technical or tonal task, yet they are meant to be fun and useful additional to the chamber music repertoire in their own right. Initially the upper part is intended for the pupil, the lower one for the teacher. But as both parts are comparatively equal, they could also be attempted by two pupils. For group tuition it is suggested to introduce a couple of rhythmical accompanying parts.

Why a book with jazz duets for cello beginners? This book of duets by the Italian jazz cellist and teacher Lucio Amanti wants to give cellists a first introduction into the jazz styles. All 25 pieces are written for the first cello in the first position, with the pieces becoming gradually more demanding with regard to fingering, bowing and harmony.
Many of the pieces contain harmonic symbols in order to give the pupil (and the teacher) the chance to try their first improvisations. They can first play the piece as notated in the book and then repeat the section notated with chords as if it were a jazz standard. A new and fresh impetus for cello lessons!

Position playing with a difference - with motivating duets in popular styles which are fun to play. The player progresses in small steps from half- to 7th-position, thus covering the whole range. Each position is first isolated and then practiced alternately with others. The order of the pieces is flexible so that the collection can be used additionally to any cello method.
The second part is position-independent and intended for the teacher or advanced pupil. This way, it is fun to learn to change positions.
The original two-volume work has been brought together and rearranged in the present new edition which now provides information on all aspects of position changes in one volume.
