It’s Been a Long Long Time is arranged as a duet for two Cellos.It’s Been a Long Long Time is best known to modern audiences as the song at the end Avengers: Endgame, where Steve Rogers, after seventy years, finally gets to dance with Peggy Carter. The song of course, is much older. Two versions of It’s Been a Long Long Time topped the charts in late 1945, and as US servicemen returned from Europe and the Pacific, it perfectly caught the mood of the times. One version was by Bing Crosby, and the other by the Harry James Orchestra featuring Kitty Kallen on vocals. It is the latter version that is heard in Endgame and the one that forms the basis of this arrangement.Musicians at an intermediate standard will find It’s Been a Long Long Time ideal for formal and informal concert performances. with both parts enjoying plenty of melodic interest. His life was a constant struggle with adversity, and Joplin died relatively young in 1917, at the dawn of the recording age. Few remembered Joplin’s music until a revival in the 1970s brought The Entertainer and others to the world’s attention. Nowadays Scott Joplin has taken his rightful place in the gallery of great American composers. The duets included in this collection are, The Entertainer, The Maple Leaf Rag, The Easy Winners, The Elite Syncopations and The Favorite. They have been arranged as duets for two Cellos and include all sections of the original compositions. The YouTube link showcases the clarinet version of these duets. Published by David McKeown (A0.1109642). The most popular of Scott Joplin’s piano rags during his lifetime, The Maple Leaf Rag was published in 1899. Joplin lived for a while in Sedalia, Missouri and the Maple Leaf Club in that town is thought to have provided the name for this composition. It provided Joplin with a steady income for the rest of his life, and while he requested that it be played at his funeral, his wife refused as she felt it inappropriate. It was the first track on Joshua Rifkin’s famous 1970 revival recording of Joplin’s music and, never waning in popularity, it has featured in hundreds of films. This version for Cello Duet includes all four sections of the original composition. The tempo in recorded versions varies widely between 72 and 126, so the marking of 92 is a suggestion only. The YouTube link is a full performance of the Clarinet version of this arrangement. Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. These bursts of anger haunted me for years and only after composing this piece was I freed of my anger. I still listen to this piece from time to time during bouts of rage to remind myself that the only way to win a fight is make concessions and come to an agreement with yourself. I hope these melodies will relieve your aggression and leave you humming this tune anytime you are frustrated. This beautifully fitful piece was performed and recorded by the cellist Raúl Andueza in June of 2020.

The Baron was an accomplished cellist, and Beethoven had played the viola back in Bonn. Both men wore spectacles at times, which is believed to be the genesis of the curious name. Apparently Beethoven wrote Zmeskall a letter containing these lines: Dearest Baron Garbage-truck driver, I am obliged to you for the weakness of your eyes. Perhaps Zmeskall lent Beethven his eyeglasses. Who knows? One thing is certain: the piece exudes a sense of sheer playfulness, similar in spirit (if not style) to Mozart's Duo for Violin and Viola in B-Flat.
