Ite missa est Guillaume de Machaut composed the Messe de Nostre Dame, also known as the Mass of Our Lady, in the early 1360s. He wrote the mass for the Cathedral at Reims, where he served as a canon, a permanent clergy member. According to a rubric at the Cathedral, it would have likely been performed for the Saturday Lady Mass. Â Guillaume de Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is significant in the history of music for several reasons: It is the first complete setting of the Ordinary of the Mass by a single composer that has survived. It is a unified mass, meaning the composer selected relevant chants for each section as the borrowed tenor. It was composed in four voices, which was unusual at the time. The texts of both Gloria and Credo are pretty lengthy. Therefore, Machaut set these movements in a style reminiscent of the earlier discant style, having short phrases, similar rhythmic motion in all parts, and a low ratio of notes per syllable of text, ending with long, rhapsodic sections for the final word, Amen. Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is a landmark in musical history, but it is far from being avant-garde merely for its uniqueness. It is considered to be a culmination of the musical style of the Ars Nova period, which was characterized by complex polyphonic textures and rhythmic innovations. Song of the Jet, translated literally as Airplane Samba) is a Brazilian song composed in 1962 by Antônio Carlos Jobim, who also wrote the original Portuguese lyrics. The English-language lyrics are by Gene Lees.In the biography Antonio Carlos Jobim: An Illuminated Man, Helena Jobim describes how her brother came up with the idea for the song: Tom's many walks from Ipanema to Santos Dumont Airport yielded that ode of beauty... He would head towards the airport, following the water's edge around Guanabara's Bay. The pretext to go there was to buy foreign magazines and newspapers. From Santos Dumont Airport he could observe his passion, the airplane. Yet he still kept some distance from those machines. He was afraid of flying, but he loved their power, splendor, and aerodynamics-man's conquest over machine.In the song, Jobim writes about landing at Galeão in Rio de Janeiro. The airport was renamed in his honor in 1999 and is now called Rio de Janeiro–Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport.Jobim wrote Samba do Avião for an Italian film, Copacabana Palace (1962), where it was performed by Jula De Palma and I 4 + 4 di Nora Orlandi. The movie was filmed in Rio and features cameo appearances by Jobim, João Gilberto and Os Cariocas.The first performance of the song was by Jobim and Os Cariocas in August 1962 at the Au Bon Gourmet restaurant in Copacabana, Rio, at what music historian Ruy Castro calls the bossa nova show to end all bossa nova shows, as it featured Jobim, João Gilberto, VinÃcius de Moraes and Os Cariocas on stage together for the only time.The first recording of the song was released in October 1962 by Elza Laranjeira. Os Cariocas had a hit with their rendition in 1963.The first English-language version was by Tony Bennett for his 1965 album If I Ruled the World: Songs for the Jet Set.Here is my brass quintet version of the song for your enjoyment.

Rimasta incompiuta per la morte dell'autore, avvenuta il 5 dicembre 1791, fu completata successivamente da Franz Xaver Sussmayr.L'opera è legata alla controversa vicenda della sua morte avvenuta il giorno successivo al completamento delle parti vocali del Lacrimosa. Stendhal parla di un anonimo committente che incaricò Mozart, malato e caduto in miseria, di comporre in quattro settimane una messa da requiem, dietro compenso di cinquanta ducati. Completato quasi certamente entro la quaresima del 1792, il Requiem venne ritenuto per un certo periodo opera del solo Mozart anche per il fatto che la calligrafia di Süssmayr risulta essere molto simile a quella di Mozart: fino agli inizi degli anni novanta del XX secolo si riteneva infatti che l'indicazione, posta in testa alla prima pagina, recitante di me W.A Mozart mppa. 1792 fosse stata apposta da Mozart stesso.Fu probabilmente solo con l'edizione a stampa di Andrè del 1827 che parte dei dubbi vennero fugati: forse per la prima volta nella storia della musica, una partitura venne pubblicata con un commento critico nel quale si tentava di stabilire con certezza ciò che è certamente di Mozart e ciò che è di pugno d'altri; l'edizione Breitkopf indicò poi con una M il materiale sicuramente mozartiano e con una S quello attribuito a Süssmayr.Leggendo il testo si può capire quanta intensità e potenza è racchiusa in questa composizione:Dies irae, dies illa, Solvet saeclum in favilla, Teste David cum Sibylla. Quantus tremor est futurus, Quando Judex est venturus, Cuncta stricte discussurus!Giorno d'ira, quel giorno distruggerà il mondo in faville, com'è attestato da Davide e dalla Sibilla. Quanto grande sarà il terrore quando verrà il giudice a valutare ogni cosa severamente.
