Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - SKU: A0.813705 Composed by Gustav Holst. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. 20th Century,Contemporary,Standards,Wedding. Score and parts. 9 pages. Regis Bookshar #6474521. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813705). Jupiter (Andante Maestoso from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity from The Planets) (Brass Quintet) - Intermediate - . This marvelous arrangement of the Andante Maestoso section from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity from Gustav Holst's The Planets, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts and recitals but if you are considering using this selection for church services in which a congregation may sing along, I would suggest that you look for the arrangements of either I Vow to Thee, My Country, O God, Beyond All Praising, O Spirit All Embracing or Thaxted, also by Regis Bookshar. They are all based on the same excerpt from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity from The Planets. These arrangements are suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing these selections as well. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (9 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. We have performed the Trumpet Quintet version of this composition quite often for numerous weddings and other special occasions. The Planets, written between 1914 and 1917 by the English composer Gustav Holst, premiered at the Queen's Hall in London, on September 29, 1918 for an invited audience of about 250 people. In the fourth movement, Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity, Holst portrays Jupiter's supposedly characteristic abundance of life and vitality. Nobility and generosity are allegedly characteristics of those born under Jupiter, and in the slower, middle section marked Andante Maestoso, perhaps the most well-known theme from The Planets (and the theme on which this arrangement is based), Holst provides a broad tune embodying these traits. In 1921, Holst adapted the theme to fit the patriotic poem I Vow to Thee, My Country by Cecil Spring Rice, and was written as a unison song with orchestra. It did not appear as the hymn tune until 1926, when Holst harmonized this melody, named Thaxted, named after the English village where he had lived for many years. Holst's friend Ralph Vaughan Williams included it in Songs of Praise. It has since been performed at numerous occasions, most notably for the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales in 1981, and also at the funerals of Princess Diana in 1997, Margaret Thatcher in 2013 and Senator John McCain where it was performed at the Washington National Cathedral on September 1, 2018. In addition to being used as the melody for the solemn, patriotic hymn I Vow to Thee, My Country, other settings of this hymn tune also include O God, Beyond All Praising, by Michael Perry in 1982, O Spirit All Embracing by Delores Dufner in 1995 and We Praise You and Acknowledge You, O God, a paraphrase of the Te Deum Laudemus by Stephen P. Starke in 1999.Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to the Trumpet Quintet version and this version for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 2 Trumpets (one of which has the lead), 1 French Horn, 1 Trombone and 1 Tuba, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection. There are Quintets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are added as often as possible. I'm certain that this beautiful arrangement of Jupiter bas.

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - SKU: A0.813703 Composed by Gustav Holst. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. 20th Century,Contemporary,Standards,Wedding. Score and parts. 9 pages. Regis Bookshar #6474019. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813703). Starke in 1999.Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to the Trumpet Quintet version and this version for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 2 Trumpets, 1 French Horn (which has the lead), 1 Trombone and 1 Tuba, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection. There are Quintets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. Pop. Score and parts. 11 pages. James Edward Ernest Symington #685323. Published by James Edward Ernest Symington (A0.1081187). Glimpse of Us is a song by Japanese singer Joji, released as a single on 10 June 2022 through 88rising and Warner Records. It was written by Joji, Joel Castillo, Alexis Kesselman, Riley McDonough, and producer Connor McDonough. The single has peaked at number one in Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, and Singapore, while peaking in the top 10 in Canada, Indonesia, Ireland, Norway, the United States and Vietnam. Brenton Blanchet of Complex described the song as a chilling piano ballad, while Jon Caramanica of The New York Times considered it splendid and striking. Andrea See of Bandwagon Asia felt that the stripped-down sound of the song foreshadows Joji's more mature sonic territory in contrast to his previous electronic material. This arrangement has been scored for Brass Quintet and is an easy blow for any quintet.

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1030615 Composed by William Billings. Arranged by Mike Allsen. Classical,Praise & Worship,Renaissance,Sacred,Spiritual. Score and parts. 41 pages. Aaron Hettinga #636010. Published by Aaron Hettinga (A0.1030615). William Billings (1746-1800) was North America’s first great choral composer. He spent most of his life in Boston, working at various times as a tanner or as minor civic official, and occasionally as a church musician. Billings seems to have had little formal music training, but when he was just 22, he also set himself up as an itinerant singing-master, teaching “singing-schools,†where children and adults could learn the rudiments of musical notation and solfege. To feed the market he and other singing-masters had helped to create, Billings published six collections of music, mostly for SATB voices, The first of these, The New England Psalm-Singer (1770) featured a frontispiece engraved by his friend Paul Revere. Billings was fairly prosperous by 1780s, but his good fortune faded in the 1790s. His final collection of music, The Continental Harmony of 1794, was published for his benefit by a group of Boston friends. Billings died destitute in 1800. Billings composed some 340 pieces, mostly collected in his printed editions. This music has a rough-edged and sturdy beauty that is distinctly different from anything in contemporary Europe. The vast majority of Billings’s works were hymns or “psalm tunes.†He was particularly attracted to the great English hymn-writer Isaac Watts (1674-1748), though Billings himself wrote verses for many of his hymns. One of the most famous Billings “psalm tunes,†Chester is not a Christian hymn, but rather a patriotic song of defiance directed against the British. Billings spent nearly all of the Revolutionary War in Boston and made no secret of his patriot sentiments. Chester was first published in 1770, but when he republished it in his The Singing-Master’s Assistant during the height of the war in 1778, Billings added a verse calling out the “infernal league†of the leading British generals Howe, Burgoyne, Clinton, Prescot and Cornwallis. Many brass-players will know Chester from the finale of William Schuman’s 1957 band piece A New England Triptych. Billings also composed over 50 “fuging-tunesâ€â€”a genre that usually included a short introduction and a repeated contrapuntal section. (These fuging sections usually begin with imitation, but they are otherwise not at all like classical fugues written in Europe at the time.) The fuging-tune Creation is one of his later works, published in The Continental Harmony of 1794, and experiments with the form. It sets two verses of the Watts hymn “When I With Pleasing Wonder Stand†though final line of verse 1 is repeated in a striking phrase that suddenly moves twice as fast (m.15). The fuging section begins in m.30, and rather than the usual exact repeat, Billing writes an entirely new and more elaborate second section beginning at m.44. Billings first published the simple but beautiful Africa in 1770, and published a revised version in 1778; the later version appearing with the Isaac Watts hymn “Now Shall My Inward Joys Arise.†I first arranged Africa in 1995, for the Glenwood Moravian Trombone Choir (Madison, WI), and I edited it for this publication. Phrasing and articulations marked here reflect the original vocal texts. Africa has long been a favorite of the Glenwood group. Chester and Creation were arranged in 2022. Mike Allsen February 2022.

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - SKU: A0.767367 Composed by Claudio Monteverdi. Arranged by Mike Lyons. Baroque,Renaissance. Score and parts. 58 pages. Lyons Music Services #3548869. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767367). At long last I have nearly finished the 7th book. This book has posed some issues as it is such complex music it is almost impossible to cut it down to 5 parts while maintaining its integrity. As a result, some songs will be in 6 or more parts. In Amor che deggio far, the poet is pleading with his love for constancy. he feels she doesn't love him enough to be his lover forever. This is one of the longer poems set in the seventh book and has a variety of musical forms within it. It begins with an opening statment of the 3 ritornelli that will reappear after each solo, duet, trio or quartet from the soloists. In this way, the composer prepares the listener for what will come and it will therefore be familiar and recognisable in the context of the song. This ia also one of the most demanding songs in the book. It requires a set of four solo singers (Trumpet/Horn/Trombone/Tuba) a pair of obbligato violins (Eb trumpet and Bb trumpet) and a string+ keyboard continuo part (Trumpet/Horn/Euphonium/Tuba) making 10 instruments in all. I had to use an Eb trumpet as the range of the obbligato is quite adventurous for the period and covers some of the clarino range that was to become popular in the High Baroque. At 5 minutes in length, this is a great finisher for either hafl of a concert, especially as Monteverdi has reserved use of all the instruments/voices until the very end, creating a rousing finish. The seventh book continues to be a challenge. Monteverdi seems to be concentrating on developing solos and duets, trios and small accompanied ensembles. The accompaniments are often written out with more than just long note chords. The intricate instrumental parts are more than just filling in the harmony (hence the difficulty in paring them down.)Once again, this song is exquisitely crafted and travels well onto brass.

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - SKU: A0.813736 Composed by Gustav Holst. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. 20th Century,Contemporary,Sacred,Standards,Wedding. Score and parts. 9 pages. Regis Bookshar #6474761. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813736). O God, Beyond All Praising (Thaxted) (Bb) (Brass Quintet) - Intermediate - . This marvelous arrangement of O God, Beyond All Praising, a hymn tune based on the Andante Maestoso section from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity from Gustav Holst's The Planets, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for church services, especially Weddings and Funerals, but would be appropriate any time during the church year. However, if you are looking to perform this selection for concerts or recitals, I would suggest you look for the arrangement of Jupiter (Andante Maestoso from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity from The Planets), also by Regis Bookshar. Starke in 1999.Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to the Trumpet Quintet version and this version for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 2 Trumpets, 1 French Horn, 1 Trombone and 1 Tuba (which has the lead), he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection. I'm certain that this beautiful arrangement of O God, Beyond All Praising based on the Andante Maestoso section from Jupiter, the B.

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 2 - SKU: A0.802647 By Bee Gees. By Barry Gibb, Maurice Gibb, and Robin Gibb. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Dance,Disco. Score and parts. 23 pages. Peet du Toit #6197563. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802647). I've Gotta Get a Message to You is a song by the Bee Gees. Released as a single on 7 September 1968, it was their second number-one single on the UK Singles Chart and their first US Top 10 hit.The song is about a man who, awaiting his execution in the electric chair, begs the prison chaplain to pass a final message on to his wife. Robin Gibb, who wrote the lyrics, said that the man's crime was the murder of his wife's lover, though the lyrics do not explicitly allude to the identity of the victim. Robin said, This is about a prisoner on Death Row who only has a few hours to live. He wants the prison chaplain to pass on a final message to his wife. There's a certain urgency about it. Myself and Barry wrote it. It's a bit like writing a script. Sometimes you can sit there for three hours with your guitar and nothing will happen. Then in the last ten minutes something will spark. The song was written with Percy Sledge in mind to record it. Sledge did record it in February 1970 but Atlantic did not issue his version in the United States at the time.Barry recalled, In those days, the lyrics were almost pretty well done on the spot. I don't remember the fundamentals on how the lyrics were formed, except that we were writing about a guy on death row. That was it.Robin adds:It was like acting, you see, we said, let's pretend that somebody, his life is on the line, somebody's going to the chair. What would be going through their mind? Let's not make it doom and gloom but sort of an appeal to the person he loves. Because right now that's all he cares about. Regardless of whether he's done a bad thing, he is a human being, and he's sending out this last message. There's someone out there whom he loves. It's a torch song, but within a very sort of theatrical sense. Not sort of abstract, but definitely somebody in a very bad situation whose life is going to end. What would they be saying, you know? This is it: 'Gotta get a message to you, hold on.Revive this hit on your brass instruments and enjoy!

The song was released as a single. It is one of his most famous songs. The lyrics describe the beauty of the summertime fields of barley surrounding his house in England. There is some primal feeling about the wind moving over the shimmering surface, like waves on an ocean of gold. It is a wistful love song, a peaceful ballad that ranks it as a classic. The music has been beautifully arranged for brass quintet by John Frith.

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1130062 Composed by English Folk Song by way of American Appalachians. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Celtic,Children,Folk,Irish,Traditional,Wedding. Score and parts. 28 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #730439. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1130062). The origins of this lullaby can be traced back to 15th-century England. Pioneers from the British Isles brought it with them to the American Appalachians. Written in three verses, its lyrics tell of four seemingly impossible gifts the singer gave my love. The first verse describes each gift: cherry that has no stone, a chicken that has no bone. a story that has no end and a baby with no cryin'. The second verse poses the riddle: how can such items exist? The third provides the answers: A cherry when it's bloomin', it has no stone. A chicken when it's pippin', it has no bone. The story of I love you, it has no end. A baby when it's sleepin', has no cryin'. This Riddle Song has enjoyed somewhat of a revival since mid-20th century, making appearances in various movies, TV shows and recordings. In 1956, Jerry Livingston and Paul Francis adapted The Riddle Song tune, added an original bridge and created new lyrics; Johnny Mathis recorded it as The Twelfth of Never, giving the haunting melody probably its greatest surge in popularity. This arrangement is in G major and opens with an upbeat introduction. For the first statement of the melody, tempo slows and Trumpets alternate the lead. On the second time through, tempo speeds up slightly and tuba takes the lead. For the third, tempo is back to the opening speed and Horn in F plays the melody. On the fourth time through, Trumpets and Trombone frame the tune in a call-and-response form. In the fifth, Trombone takes the lead. In the sixth and final statement, Horn in F and Trombone play melody at half speed while Trumpets play a fairly complicated counterpoint (at what may seem like double speed!). This, until the last phrase (A baby when it's sleepin'), when the melody switches over to Trumpets and Trombone takes the counterpoint. Trumpet 1 plays its A above the staff a number of times. Tuba's lowest note is its F down below the staff. Otherwise, notes for all instruments are well within normal playing range. Because of the recommended tempo, the countermelody at measures 68-83 could be problematic for Trumpets and Trombone and may require a little extra work. Completed in 2022, performance time runs about 3 minutes, 42 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge. He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms.
