If you've never seen it, at least check out that part of it (I think it's on YouTube). It's just fun, and it's a great song. It was nominated (along with two other songs also from Enchanted) for the Oscar for best original song. They all lost to an awful song you've never heard from a movie you've never seen. I think maybe the Academy has developed an allergy to Disney. The song by French composer Michel Legrand, with English lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman (they wrote the words to dozens of hit songs), was the main theme of the 1968 Steve McQueen/Faye Dunaway flick The Thomas Crown Affair. It won that year's Oscar for best original song. Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney sang this as a conversation duet in the 1941 film Babes On Broadway, one of their many screen collaborations. And it's the only song from the film you've ever heard of since. It pops up here and there in movies, and was most famously covered by Frank Sinatra.The lyrics were a product of their times. The original featured the line, Franklin Roosevelt's looks give me a thrill. Sinatra substituted James Durante's looks. Neither works today.This arrangement, for two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba, picks up the original's conversation, passing it among the four higher horns.If you'd like alternative instrumentation, I'm happy to accommodate. American Cole Porter wrote it in 1935 while on a South Pacific cruise between Indonesia and Fiji aboard a British liner. Its roots are in a Latin dance from the French Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. So it's somewhere between a minuet and a samba. The name of the dance, beguine, is Creole (probably pejorative) for white woman. The song was first performed in a Broadway musical called Jubilee. It didn't get much traction until Artie Shaw recorded it with his big band, in a purely swing mode, in 1938; it became the 3rd best-selling recording of the year and set off a new dance craze. Check out the drummer in the YouTube video of Shaw's band performing the song, with special attention to the drummer. It's a young and relatively quite subdued Buddy Rich. This arrangement, for two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba, sticks pretty close to a Latin feel except for a swing break in the middle.If you need alternative instrumentation, I'm happy to help. La Majeste (from Heroic Music) - Georg Philpp Telemann - Brass Quintet - Intermediate - .Heroic Music (or Heldenmusik) is a suite of twelve short marches and processionals, written by Georg Philipp Telemann in 1728, and is associated with various attributes of Heroism such as Dignity, Bravery and Alertness. All twelve movements have now been transcribed and arranged by Regis Bookshat to be played by Trumpet Quintets or Brass Quintets. Some of them have also been arranged for Sextets, Septets, Octets, Nonets and Brass Choirs. Some also include a Timpani. They can be purchase individually, or, if you prefer, as a complete set of all twelve at a huge saving.Any of these selections would be a wonderful addition to any music library. They are perfectly suited to recitals and public performances, can stand alone as short interludes and are generally well received by audiences. They are suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing these arrangements. These selections are some of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. In the past, these compositions have often been performed by a soloist playing on a Piccolo Trumpet, but these new arrangements are Bb Trumpet friendly as one player stated after playing through them, making them much easier for most high school students.This selection, La Majeste (from Heroic Music), is arranged for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 2 Bb Trumpets, 1 French Horn, 1 Trombone and 1 Tuba, and is associated with the heroic quality of Dignity. There is also a version which includes a Timpani, if you would prefer. This version is written in Concert C but there is also a verion in Bb, if you would prefer. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (10 pages).Many of these selections are readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous selections in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. De facto Anthems of the Confederate States of America ''I Wish I Was in Dixie & Taps''- ''God Save the South No. 1'' - The Bonnie Blue Flag, ''God Save the South No. 2'', arranged for Brass Quintet & Percussion.The Confederate States of America (also referred to as The Confederacy or simply The South) had, like the United States at the time, several patriotic songs in use which could have been considered anthems, like Dixie, The Bonnie Blue Flag, and God Save the South, none of which were officially declared (possibly because declaring an official anthem wasn’t as important to a new nation then as it is now). God Save the South does have more of an anthemaic quality in the music and lyrics, and several publications of the song refer to it as a (or the) anthem, and was also the first song to be published in the Confederacy (which was subsequently published in at least nine editions).God Save the South was written by George H. Miles under the pseudonym Earnest Halphin, soon after the war started. Miles was a Marylander, a state that did not officially secede and join the confederacy, but, being a border state, had several citizens with sympathies for the south. An interesting thing to note about the song is the reference to George Washington (the first president of the United States) in the song’s fifth verse. Apparently, the author of the song meant to tie in Washington’s stance as a rebel against the British in the American revolution with the South’s rebellion against the northern United States in the civil war.The music was written by C. W. A. Ellerbock, but another tune by C. T. De Cœniél was also popular at the time as well. Genesis 28:11–12 can be translated as follows: So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it…. The hymn is well known, among other uses, as the alleged last song the band on RMS Titanic played before the ship sank. Keith Terrett #748189. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1147994). The regional anthem of Bougainville arranged for Classical Brass Quintet. Bougainville is an autonomous area of Papua New Guinea. Autonomous since 2000, it voted for independence in 2019, which is scheduled to be obtained before 2027. The anthem of the autonomous territory was adopted in 2018 and will most likely be adopted as the new nation’s anthem once independence is achieved. Titled “My Bougainvilleâ€, the melody is that of the Australian patriotic song “The Song of Australia†(one of four songs considered on a national plebiscite for that country’s anthem, but was rejected), the lyricist is unknown. It is not uncommon for anthems in the Pacific region to use the tune of a patriotic song or hymn of a current or former colonizer (as evidenced by the “Pacific hymn†genre of anthems); Australia governed Bougainville as a part of Papua New Guinea from after World War I to Papua New Guinea’s independence in 1975.
