My Ragtime Baby was the 1898 mega hit featured in the Sousa Band European 1900 tour that introduced European audiences to American Ragtime. Fred Stone was a prominent African-American composer and conductor in the early Ragtime movement. The rag is arranged for two B-flat trumpets, horn in F, trombone and tuba. Tchaikovsky's lyrical mastery of the waltz is aptly demonstrated in this miniature from a set of twenty-four short works written in 1878. Trumpet parts in B-flat and alternate C are included and flugelhorn/trumpet substitute for horn. The sound file is an actual brass quintet performance of the entire arrangement and not a computer playback of the score. These five short, elegant fanfares by former students of Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov were composed for the 1890 concert celebrating his 20 years as professor at the St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia. Originally scored for an orchestral brass section, the fanfares retain their brilliance as a brass quintet and parts can be doubled to intensify the musical impact.
