The first trumpet player needs to have a good high register, as the the range extends to high D (above treble clef staff). Trombone part uses tenor and bass clefs.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is a popular childrens\' lullaby, originally published in 1806 and set to an old traditional French melody. This arrangement is for standard brass quintet of 2 trumpets in Bb, horn in F, trombone and tuba, and contains two verses. It would be ideal for a concert for young children or as part of nursery workshops/performances.

Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov wrote Capriccio Espagnol in 1887 as a showpiece for orchestra that featured several Spanish folk melodies. Its second movement, Variazioni, is a set of variations. What is so fascinating about this theme and variations is that neither the melody nor harmony drastically change; it is the orchestration that carries this movement. Honoring that, this arrangement for brass quintet gives each player a chance to play the theme. First, trumpet one, then trombone, then tuba, then 2nd trumpet, and finally trumpet one again. This arrangement starts with a slow statement of the melody, then starts swinging at very laid-back tempo, and finally moves to a faster, more lively tempo before ending broadly. It's the old New Orleans funeral routine--slow to the cemetery, and up-beat on the way back. There's plenty of call and response, and I think you'll enjoy the harmonies and the "improvised" lines.
