Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1104778 By The Beatles. By Meredith Willson. Arranged by David J. Miller. 20th Century,Broadway,Chamber,Musical/Show,Pop,Wedding. 8 pages. Sterling Music Editions #708018. Published by Sterling Music Editions (A0.1104778). Meredith Willson worked on his Broadway musical The Music Man for nearly ten years before it was premiered in 1957. It became an instant hit, and the Beatles popularized Till there was You with their 1963 album Meet the Beatles! This version of the song is written to either feature each member of the brass quintet, or to be the accompaniment for a vocal singer with five brass. This arrangement works well for concerts, recitals, weddings or background music.

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1401614 Composed by Joseph Lamb. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. 20th Century,Classical,Historic,Ragtime. 32 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #984793. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1401614). Ragtime was originally and primarily piano music. The Library of Congress traces the origin and wellspring of ragtime to St. Louis, Missouri.  The Britannica website explains, “Ragtime evolved in the playing of honky-tonk pianists along the Mississippi and Missouri rivers in the last decades of the 19th century. It was influenced by minstrel-show songs, African American banjo styles, and syncopated (off-beat) dance rhythms of the cakewalk, and also elements of European music.â€Â    But it wasn’t until the mid-1890s, when music publishers started printing ragtime scores, making the music available to the public at large, that ragtime’s popularity began to soar.  By 1900 ragtime was the popular music.  It stayed that way until about 1917 when the rise of jazz began to overtake it.  By 1920, ragtime was nearly forgotten.    Thirty years later, a ragtime revival began.  And one Patricia Lamb-Conn found out that her father, Joseph F. Lamb, was a well-known composer of ragtime.  In fact, the “Big Three†composers of classical ragtime are considered to be Scott Joplin, James Scott and the only non-African American, Joseph Lamb.    Lamb was born in 1887 in New Jersey, taught himself to play piano and was very much influenced by Joplin’s early ragtime publications.  From there, Lamb went on to develop into a master of classic ragtime.    One of Lamb’s most popular works was a 1916 composition he titled “Patricia Rag.†(The title apparently had nothing to do with his daughter, who was born in 1924.)  It consists of four themes in five sections, with the first theme repeated after sections 1 and 2.  Lamb pitched the opening in E-flat Major, changing to A-flat Major at the Trio.      This brass quintet arrangement, completed in 2024, consists of 150 measures, approximately five minutes, ten seconds in length.  It retains the basic structure of the original piano score but modifies the pitches to B-flat Major and E-flat Major, respectively, to accommodate the normal playing range of the brass instruments.  Possible exceptions for some players include:  (1) Trumpet 1 plays its A-above-the-staff a number of times and its B above-the-staff once; (2) Trombone plays several E above-the-staff notes; (3) Tuba plays several way-below-the-staff F notes and one high G note. Throughout the arrangement, the original melody is maintained and featured, but in some sections the background and harmony are altered to feature one or more of the five instruments.  In the Trio, the sections designated by rehearsal marks F and G are slowed and treated as a serenade; the original tempo is restored at H.  In performing this arrangement, players should pay particular attention to dynamics.  Additionally, because of the nature of ragtime, this piece may require more-than-usual practice and rehearsal.    The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge.  He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms.  Contact him at lessmith61@bellsouth.net.  For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the Sheet Music Plus or Sheet Music Direct search box.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.964598 Composed by Johannes Brahms. Arranged by Betsy Bright. Children,Concert,Jewish,Romantic Period,World. Score and parts. 15 pages. Bright Music Company #6508043. Published by Bright Music Company (A0.964598). Brahms Hungarian Dance No. 5 is best known as an orchestral showpiece, though Brahms was not the orchestrator. Brahms's original work was for piano 4-hands. This brass quintet arrangement is a half step lower than Brahms's original piece, so it fits well into all of the brass parts. Higher brass all have ample rest and nothing is high or taxing. Also, the tempo changes have been written out, so there's no time wasted in rehearsal discussing how to handle tempo! Speaking of tempo...this piece is super fun to play for education shows. Kids can move along to the tempo and feel the abrupt changes throughout the piece. No playing headaches...just lots of fun for the musicians as well as the audience! Brass Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1372453 By Soprano and Brass Quintet. By Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Classical. 18 pages. Peet du Toit #956760. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1372453). This religious solo motet was composed when Mozart was staying in Milan. During the production of his opera Lucio Silla which was being performed there in the Teatro Regio Ducale. It was written for the castrato Venanzio Rauzzini, who had sung the part of the primo uomo Cecilio in Lucio Silla the previous year. While waiting for the end of the run (from 26 December 1772 to 25 January 1773), Mozart composed the motet for his singer, whose technical excellence he admired. Its first performance took place at the Theatine Church on 17 January 1773, while Rauzzini was still singing in Mozart's opera at night. Mozart made some revisions around 1780. On 30 May 1779, a Trinity Sunday, a revised version was performed by Francesco Ceccarelli at the Holy Trinity Church, Salzburg. Another revised version was intended for Christmas. The manuscripts of the two Salzburg versions were discovered in 1978 in St. Jakob, Wasserburg am Inn. In modern times, the motet is usually sung by a female soprano.I was tempted to combine the soprano and a brass quintet. We have performed this arrangement quite successfully at many venues, including a national music festival (Wakkerstroom, South Africa, March 2023).

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1305526 Composed by Daniel Burwasser. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary,Contest,Festival. 52 pages. Head and Stem #894974. Published by Head and Stem (A0.1305526). NOTES on The Waiting GameWaiting is hard. The Waiting Game is a three-movement work for brass quintet depicting three different emotional scenarios one might endure while waiting for something good to happen. The Waiting Game can be applied to various situations in life where there is no control over the timing of an event and one must simply wait for it to unfold. The first movement, “Anticipationâ€, the first phase, takes the listener through the ambivalent feelings of both dread and positivity depending on the day. The 2nd movement, “Exaspirationâ€, is slow and expressive, representing time dragging on. This is the most frustrating period of the waiting process. The final movement, “Jubilationâ€, is celebratory and depicts a hopeful outcome from all the emotional hardships of waiting.--Daniel Burwasser, October, 2023For more information, go to: https://www.danielburwasser.com/To contact the composer directly, go to: danielburwasser9@gmail.com.

Handy was one of the most influential songwriters in the United States.Handy was an educated musician who used elements of folk music in his compositions. He was scrupulous in documenting the sources of his works, which frequently combined stylistic influences from various performers.W.C. Flugelhorn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1158292 Composed by Dr. Daniel N. Thrower. 20th Century,Chamber,Jazz,Multicultural,World. 30 pages. Https://gildedmusicpress.com/ #758480. Published by https://gildedmusicpress.com/ (A0.1158292). Commentary written by the composer, Dr. Daniel N. Thrower: In July 2018 I spent nine days in Barra Mansa, Brazil, which lies a couple hours west of Rio de Janeiro. The occasion of my visit was the second annual International Music Festival. The festival coordinator, Vantoil de Sousa, Jr. brought me there to be the resident trumpet professor for the week, and to premiere my three-movement Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra at the Closing Concert. As I speak Portuguese somewhat fluently, many of the 20 trumpet students of all levels became great friends. Throughout the week I kept mentioning that my next composition was going to be “Lembranças do Brasil†as yet another musical journal entry in my life’s soundtrack. Truly, I had a lifetime of extraordinary experiences in Brazil during that week, from the outstanding food to my humorous self-introduction to capivaras! Overall, that week was supremely memorable and definitely a highlight of my life. One morning in early November 2018, a 'feel-good' cool melody woke me up and wouldn’t leave. It developed in my mind and I was in a spectacular mood all day long. It felt like Bobby McFarrin’s 'Don’t Worry, Be Happy' or Pharrell Williams’ 'Happy,' though in a vastly different style from either. This was my happy song. Long hours flowed quickly through the next few days as I worked out the form and details of the music, which screamed for the promised title 'Lembranças do Brasil'! Happy memories of my beautiful week in Brazil, some of which are captured on the front cover collage, now have the perfect soundtrack in my musical journal. This version was tweaked from the original five flugelhorns, and lends itself very well (perhaps even better) in the brass quintet setting.

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1446054 Composed by Christoph Willibald Gluck,. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Classical,Contest,Festival,Historic,Instructional,Opera. 16 pages. Keith Terrett #1025876. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1446054). Orfeo ed Euridice is an opera composed by Christoph Willibald Gluck, based on the myth of Orpheus and set to a libretto by Ranieri de' Calzabigi. It belongs to the genre of the azione teatrale, meaning an opera on a mythological subject with choruses and dancing. The piece was first performed at the Burgtheater in Vienna on 5 October 1762, in the presence of Empress Maria Theresa. Orfeo ed Euridice is the first of Gluck's reform operas, in which he attempted to replace the abstruse plots and overly complex music of opera seria with a noble simplicity in both the music and the drama. The opera is the most popular of Gluck's works, and was one of the most influential on subsequent German operas. Variations on its plot—the underground rescue mission in which the hero must control, or conceal, his emotions—can be found in Mozart's The Magic Flute, Beethoven's Fidelio, and Wagner's Das Rheingold.Though originally set to an Italian libretto, Orfeo ed Euridice owes much to the genre of French opera, particularly in its use of accompanied recitative and a general absence of vocal virtuosity. Indeed, twelve years after the 1762 premiere, Gluck re-adapted the opera to suit the tastes of a Parisian audience at the Académie Royale de Musique with a libretto by Pierre-Louis Moline. This reworking was given the title Orphée et Eurydice, and several alterations were made in vocal casting and orchestration to suit French tastes.Ther picture is Count Francesco Algarotti, an Italian polymath, philosopher, poet, essayist, anglophile, art critic and art collector. He was a man of broad knowledge, an expert in Newtonianism, architecture and opera. He was a friend of Frederick the Great and leading authors of his times: Voltaire, Jean-Baptiste de Boyer, Marquis d'Argens, Pierre-Louis de Maupertuis and the atheist Julien Offray de La Mettrie. Lord Chesterfield, Thomas Gray, George Lyttelton, Thomas Hollis, Metastasio, Benedict XIV and Heinrich von Brühl were among his correspondents.''The Sicilienne and Rigaudon is one of the many pieces that violin virtuoso Fritz Kreisler composed in the style of other composers. When he first presented and published these pieces, he offered them as recently discovered works by those other composers, newly adapted and arranged by himself. In the case of Sicilienne and Rigaudon, it is eighteenth-century French violinist/composer François Francoeur whose name is on the title sheet, though the piece really has nothing to do with Francoeur's style. The piece is a simple and a charming one, however. The Sicilienne is a binary-form miniature that sweeps along on a characteristic dotted rhythm, with a rather melancholy melody. Think old French ballet. The constant 16th notes of the Rigaudon, give it a character quite unlike that of a traditional rigaudon-a cheerful Baroque dance movement in duple meter.

Brass Ensemble,Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1202140 Composed by Johanna Hall and John Hall. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Contemporary,Disco,Hip-Hop,Pop,R & B,Rock. Score and parts. 27 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #800795. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1202140). John Hall and his then-wife Johanna had written several hit songs for John's group, Orleans.  Johanna wanted to create a song in the 1950s doo-wop style she so admired.  They did, and their composition described a certain Miss Grace who enchanted the lyricist with her “satin and perfume and lace.† The problem was: that song really did not fit in with Orleans' pop rock repertoire and image.  Meanwhile, The Tymes, a Philadelphia group, was looking for a number that might revive its popularity.  So when the Miss Grace song was suggested they decided to take it on. This was the mid-1970s, just when the honorific Ms. was growing in use.  So The Tymes changed the song's title to “Ms. Grace.† Released as a single, the song did very well in the UK, topping the chart at number one in January 1975.  Written in 4/4 time, this brass quintet version flows along at about 104 BPM.  Beginning notation instructs that eighth-note pairs are to be played so that the first note is about twice as long as the second; in other words, swing style.  It retains the original D major key, but gives most of the melody to Horn and Trombone an octave lower so that it stays within normal playing range of the group.  The nature of the song is such that there are a number of phrases that begin with off-beat pickup notes. Trumpets provide accents and flourishes and occasionally take over the melody for a few measures.  Tuba really does the most work, playing through almost the entire piece.  Completed in 2023, performance time runs about 3 minutes, 3 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge.  He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms.  For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the Sheet Music Plus or Sheet Music Direct search box.  (Also, purchase of this piece entitles you to your choice of another of his arrangements at no charge; send a copy of your purchase receipt directly to him at lessmith61@bellsouth.net.).

Euphonium,Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.768520 Composed by Victor Ewald. Arranged by Roar Kvam. 20th Century. 204 pages. KVAMusic Edition #6424311. Published by KVAMusic Edition (A0.768520). Victor Ewald 27 November 1860 - 16 April 1935 Ewald was a Russian composer of music, mainly for conical brass instruments. He was born in Saint Petersburg and died in Leningrad. He also collected and published Russian folk songs. Ewald’s professional life, like that of many of his musical contemporaries, was in an entirely different field; that of a civil engineer, in which he excelled, being appointed in 1900 as professor and manager of the Faculty of Construction Materials at the Institute of Civil Engineers. Brass players however are indebted to him for something very different – a series of quintets which have become a staple of the repertoire and which represent almost the only, and certainly the most extended examples of original literature in the Romantic style. Ewald’s formal musical training began in 1872 when he enrolled at the St Petersburg Conservatory at the age of twelve. Founded in 1861 by Anton Rubenstein, this institution was the first of its kind in Russia and it was here that Ewald received lessons in cornet, piano, horn, cello, harmony and composition. As an adult he worked alongside fellow musical nationalists known collectively as the Mighty Handful-Borodin, Mily Balakirev, CeÌsar Cui, Modest Mussorgsky and the most famous of all, Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov. All of these men had day jobs in non-musical fields.Ewald’s contributions as a composer reflected an abiding love for brass instruments for which he wrote his quintets scored originally for two cornets, alto horn, baritone horn and tuba. I've edited these four quartets using Ewald's original instrumentation, but there are also separate substitute parts for the modern brass quintet (2 trumpets, horn in F, trombone and tuba). Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1249433 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Baroque,Chamber,Christian,Easter,Historic. 29 pages. Regis Bookshar #840537. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1249433). Three selections based on Christ lag in Todesbanden (Christ lay in death's bonds) (from Cantata No.  4, BMV  4) - Johann Sebastian Bach - Brass Quintet (2 Trps, 1 Hrn, 1 Trb, 1 Tuba) - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download.Cantata No.  4, BMV  4, Christ lag in Todesbanden (also spelled Todes Banden) (Christ lay in death's bonds) is a cantata for Easter written by Johann Sebastian Bach and is his earliest surviving Church Cantata. It was probably written in 1707 when he was 22 years old. It is a Chorale Cantata, a style in which both the text and music are based on a hymn. In this instance, the source was Martin Luther's hymn of the same name which became a main Easter hymn in German Lutheranism.Regis Bookshar has transcribed and arranged three selections based on this hymn tune, two from Bach's Cantata No.  4, BMV  4, and also his Chorale Prelude, BMV 625. They may be played individually or as a trilogy and each movement is more complex than the previous one. The first selection in this trilogy is the Chorale, Christ lag in Todesbanden, the final chorus from his Cantata No.  4, a straighforward four-part setting of the hymn (Regis has also added a fifth part). This is followed by Bach's Chorale Prelude, BMV 625, a piece from his Orgelbuchlein (Little Organ Book), a collection of 46 Preludes for organ, written almost exclusively during the 1708-1717 period, while Bach was court organist at Weiman. For the final selection, Regis has placed the polyphonic and imitative chorus, Es war ein wunderlicher Krieg, da Tod und Leben rungen (It was a strange battle, that death and life waged), which Bach had placed in the middle of his Cantata No.  4.This arrangement is for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 2 Bb Trumpets, 1 French Horn, 1 Trombone and 1 Tuba. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (29 pages).I hope you will enjoy playing these selections and please search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar. Brass Ensemble Trombone,Trumpet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1083711 Composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Classical,Contest,Festival,Instructional,Multicultural,Romantic Period,World. Score and parts. 15 pages. Regis Bookshar #687920. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1083711). Coronation March, TH 50, CW 47 by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Brass Quintet - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. This marvelous arrangement of Peter Tchaikovsky's Coronation March, sometimes called Festival March or Festival Coronation March, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts, recitals and other festive occasions. This arrangement keeps all of the intensity and excitement of the original composition and is suitable for high school and college students. Professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (15 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available to the public for the first time. The Coronation March was ordered by the city of Moscow for the coronation of Tsar Alexander III in 1883. It was written during March of 1883 and was performed for the first time on June 4, 1883 in Sokolniky Park in Moscow, conducted by Sergei Taneyev. The music then included excerpts of the anthem, God Save the Tsar. The American premiere was on May 5, 1891, for the opening concert of Carnegie Hall in New York City, conducted by Tchaikovsky himself. During the Soviet Era, Russian performances and recordings of the music were revised to omit the excerpts from the Czarist national anthem, replacing it with thematic material used earlier in the march, due to an official Soviet ban on the anthem. Starting with Dmitri Medvedev's inauguration in 2008, an abbreviated version of this piece is played during the Russian presidential inauguration accompanying the entrance of the incoming president, and ends well before the playing in this piece of the Tsarist anthem God Save the Tsar. Unlike Tchaikovsky's other major compositions, the Coronation March does not have an opus number. It has been given alternative catalogue designations TH 50 and CW 47. Tchaikovsky's Coronation March was originally scored for a full orchestra and written in the key of D Major. Regis Bookshar has now created an abbreviated version, written in Db Major, and has arranged it for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 3 Bb Trumpets and 2 Trombones. In addition to this arrangement of Tchaikovsky's Coronation March for a Brass Quintet, other arrangements of this festive composition for various instrumental ensembles are also available. Please feel free to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar as there are many more arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you as well, and please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I'm certain that this wonderful arrangement of Tchaikovsky's Coronation March will continue to entertain both audiences and performers alike for years to come.

This is followed by Bach's Chorale Prelude, BMV 625, a piece from his Orgelbuchlein (Little Organ Book), a collection of 46 Preludes for organ, written almost exclusively during the 1708-1717 period, while Bach was court organist at Weimar. For the final selection, Regis has placed the polyphonic and imitative chorus, Es war ein wunderlicher Krieg, da Tod und Leben rungen (It was a strange battle, that death and life waged), which Bach had placed in the middle of his Cantata No.  4.This arrangement is for a Euphonium Quintet, written in Treble Clef. There is also a version written in Bass Clef, if you would prefer. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (29 pages).I hope you will enjoy playing these selections and please search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar. There are numerous selections in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. I think you will be pleased with what you may find.

Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1158199 Composed by Dr. Daniel N. Thrower. 20th Century,Chamber,Classical,March,Patriotic. 32 pages. Https://gildedmusicpress.com/ #758476. Published by https://gildedmusicpress.com/ (A0.1158199). There is nothing more quintessentially military than the grand sound of marches at special military events. Hundreds of marches have served their purposes through the many decades of military tradition in the United States of America. This 3.5-minute march was composed for the occasion of the change of command of the 55th Wing—“The Fightin’ 55thâ€â€”under Air Combat Command, located at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. The ceremony took place on June 14, 2019, which was also Flag Day. The new march served as a grateful tribute to the outgoing Commander, Colonel Michael H. Manion, and a welcoming gesture to the new Commander, Colonel Gavin P. Marks. Printed copies of the score were presented to the Commanders before the ceremony, and the march was premiered as the final pre-ceremony musical selection. The opening motifs are strongly reminiscent of the introductory measures of the “Air Force Song†most commonly played by Air Force brass quintets. Keeping in tradition with the form of most marches, the “Trio†section presents new material in a new key (down a fifth), with a contrastingly quiet dynamic. The opening motif of the Trio strain is a mutation, or a paraphrase, of “Anchors Aweighâ€, emphasizing the joint-force nature of the 55th Wing. The melody is repeated with a louder dynamic and a countermelody in the horn, and then is repeated once more with increased excitement in the accompaniment, variety of dynamics, and even a temporary key shift. Straying from the form most used by the “March Kingâ€, John Philip Sousa, Dr. Thrower omitted a fourth or final strain, and instead he modulated the key back to the original B-flat major and brought back the melodic content from the first strain. This form predates Sousa, and was more commonly used in Europe and early America. It smacks of “sonata formâ€, and even the modern formal designation of “recapitulating march†alludes to sonata form. The final recapitulating strain repeats with an obbligato soaring above it in the first trumpet part, now on piccolo trumpet. The march ends with a short coda that brings back the opening motivic allusion to the Air Force Song. Due to the selected formal structure, this march, “The Fightin’ 55thâ€, is much more unified than most typical marches. The very nature of military marches (including America’s beloved “Stars and Stripes Foreverâ€) displays four or even five completely unrelated melodies, or strains, throughout. The incorporation of thematic structure similar to that found in sonata form indeed makes “The Fightin’ 55th†an appropriate and even artistic concert march.

Published by https://gildedmusicpress.com/ (A0.1157987). This energetic, musically satisfying, one-minute fanfare was composed in 2004 during Daniel Thrower’s time serving as professor of trumpet at Brigham Young University-Idaho. It was appropriately premiered by the BYU-I Faculty Brass Quintet. “Academic Fanfare†became the theme tune for the Phoenix Chamber Brass, and was used to open every PCB performance for a number of years. Dr. Thrower was a founding member of PCB, and performed with them for the 2006 – 07 season. Aside from its use with BYU-I and PCB as a concert opener, the audience-grabbing nature of “Academic Fanfare†is extremely effective for announcing anything of importance, such as ceremonial openers, graduations, inaugurations, award ceremonies, etc. It is important to keep in mind, however, that in such circumstances, shorter fanfares may be more fitting. Thrower’s collection of 20 short fanfares for brass quintet is a must for every gigging brass quintet, available through Hickman Music Editions (www.HickmanMusicEditions.com).

The Fairest of the Fair March for Brass Quintet and Optional DrumsBy John Philip Sousa Arranged by Jari VillanuevaScore 2 Trumpets in BbHorn in FTromboneTubaOptional DrumsSubstitute parts for Eb Horn and Baritone T.C .providedThe Fairest of the Fair (1908) by John Philip Sousa was composed for the annual Boston Food Fair of 1908 and is claimed that the memory of a pretty girl he had seen at an earlier fair inspired the composition. Sousa composed The Fairest of the Fair intending his Band to perform it at the annual Boston Food Fair in the fall of 1908. It is the only work of any kind that he composed that year and one of only a handful of compositions that he wrote between 1906 and 1910. He apparently completed it in New York during the summer, as the final page of the original score was signed John Philip Sousa, Camp Comfort, Saranac Lake, Adirondack, New York, July 8, 1908.The march almost missed its premier at the Boston Food Fair. Because of an oversight the music, which Sousa had written and scored out, did not have individual parts written out for the performers. This was discovered the day before the performance. The new composition had received much advanced publicity and it would have been an embarrassment to Sousa not to have it performed. The band’s copyist, Louis Morris, rose to the occasion and on the train to Boston stayed up and copied out the parts so the band could premier the work as advertised on September 28, 1908. In the morning when Sousa found out Morris was working all night he instructed him to finish the work and get some rest. Morris missed the concert and the premier but found an extra $50 in his next paycheck.Published by JV MUSIC Baltimore MD www.jvmusic.net https://youtu.be/KeE5dMnrevU

Horn,Trumpet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1108151 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Chamber,Christian,Classical,Instructional,Religious. 25 pages. Regis Bookshar #710775. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1108151). Recordare (from Requiem (K. 626) - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart/Franz Xaver Sussmayr - Brass Quintet - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. Hauntingly beautiful is how the Recordare from Mozart's Requiem is often described. Originally written for an orchestra and four vocal soloists, it has now been transcribed by Regis Bookshar for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 3 Bb Trumpets and 2 French Horns, and would be a wonderful addition to any music library. This arrangement will provide students with the opportunity to practice breath control because of its long, sustained phrases, and also to give them the chance to play this beautiful composition, something which they may not have had the opportunity to do, otherwise. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services and is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this arrangement. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (25 pages). The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble has performed the Trumpet Quintet version of the Recordare for funerals, providing beautiful, introspective music for the occasion. There is some controversy surrounding the circumstances of the Requiem's composition because Mozart died before he could complete it. Count Franz von Walsegg had commissioned a Requiem Mass but Mozart had received only half of the payment in advance. So, upon his death on December 5th, 1791, his widow, Constanze, wished to have the work completed secretly by someone else and submit it to the count as having been completed by Mozart to collect the final payment. Joseph von Eybler was one of the first composers to be asked to complete the score and had worked on a number of movements but felt unable to complete the remainder and gave the manuscript back to Constanze Mozart. The task was then given to another composer, Franz Xaver Sussmayr. Sussmayr borrowed some of Eybler's work in making his completion, added his own orchestration to other movements and added several new movements which a Requiem Mass would normally comprise. He then added a final section by adapting the opening two movements which Mozart had written to the different words which finish the Requiem Mass, which according to both Sussmayr and Mozart's wife, was done according to Mozart's directions. The completed score, initially by Mozart but largely finished by Sussmayr, was then dispatched to Count Walsegg complete with a counterfeited signature of Mozart dated 1792. Despite the controversy over how much of the music is actually Mozart's, the commonly performed Sussmayr version has become widely accepted by the public, and is considered one of Mozart's finest compositions. The Recordare is considered by many people to be one of the most beautiful compositions in Mozart's entire catalogue. Regis Bookshar, a trumpet player, has performed the Requiem in concert with a full orchestra, soloists and a chorus and felt that other musicians should have the opportunity to play the hauntingly beautiful Recordare as well. So, in addition to this arrangement for a Brass Quintet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this beautiful composition. There are Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may fine something else which may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I'm certain that this beautiful arrangement of Mozart's Recordare, will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.
