Composed between 1706 and 1713, the Passacaglia and Fugue in c-minor is one of Bach's earlier works. It remains an important piece even today as it sets the standard for the passacaglia form. Like many of Bach's work, this piece lends itself particularly well to the brass repertoire.This arrangement is both technically challenging and aurally pleasing. Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott (Our God is a secure fortress), BWV 80 is a church cantata based on Martin Luther's that Bach composed for Reformation Day around the year 1723. This movement Aria and Chorale is the second movement of the cantata. The Euphonium/Trombone part performs the bass solo and the Trumpet 1 part performs the Soprano/Oboe solo which is the Chorale itself in an embellished style of the melody. Justin Bland has done a superb job of arranging this beautiful movement of about 4.5 minutes in length for moderately advanced performers. Instrumentation is: Trumpet 1 (C and B-flat parts are provided), Trumpet 2/Flugelhorn in B-flat, Horn, Euphonium/Trombone in bass clef and Tuba.?

Bach's Christmas Oratorio (Weihnachtsoratorium) BWV 248 is a great work performed worldwide during the festive season. Chorale No. 64, is a most joyous movement of about 4 minutes in length and has been beautifully arranged for Brass Quintet by Matthew McCrady for advanced performers.



Instrumentation is for: Piccolo Trumpet in A, Trumpet in D, Horn, Trombone and Tuba.

C. P. E. Bach was an innovator as an early Classical music composer, helping to develop the sonata form that was refined by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. Like his father, Carl Phillip Emanuel was prolific and showed signs of true genius.

Symphony No. 1, in three movements (fast-slow-fast) was originally in D and has been transposed down a step to C by the arranger Justin Bland.

This very fine arrangement of the entire work of about 12 minutes in length is appropriate for very advanced performers and could be the cornerstone of a recital program.

Bach's Canzona BWV 588 in d Minor was written for organ and may have been influenced by Frescobaldi and the Italian style of the period.

This lovely 5 1/2 minute arrangement by Robert Coulter begins with a fugue in the bass line and continues until a lively triple-meter section which then leads dramatically to its conclusion.



The instrumentation is for Trumpet 1 (parts supplied for D & E-flat instruments), Trumpet 2 in B-flat, Horn, Trombone, and Tuba. This work is appropriate for advanced performers.
