Bach's Canzona BWV 588 in d Minor was written for organ and may have been influenced by Frescobaldi and the Italian style of the period.
This lovely 5 1/2 minute arrangement by Robert Coulter begins with a fugue in the bass line and continues until a lively triple-meter section which then leads dramatically to its conclusion.
The instrumentation is for Trumpet 1 (parts supplied for D & E-flat instruments), Trumpet 2 in B-flat, Horn, Trombone, and Tuba. This work is appropriate for advanced performers.

Earl of Oxford's March is one of the most well known of the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book, the collection of over 300 keyboard works from the Elizabethan period of the 16th Century. Mr. Denroche's excellent arrangement for standard brass quintet of 2 Trumpets in C, Horn in F, Trombone (bass clef) and Tuba is appropriate for advanced performers and is about 3 minutes in length.?

The Ancient Airs and Dances Suite No. 1 beautifully arranged by Mark LaFratta for Brass Quintet was compiled by Respighi as a Piano transcription in 1917 and is based on a Renaissance collection of works for Lute by Molinaro, Galilei (father of the famous Galileo), and two other anonymous composers from that era. The four movements are titled: 1. Simone Molinaro, 1599 2. Vincenzo Galilei, 1550's 3. Villanella (anonymous late 16th century) 4. Passo mezzo e mascherada (anonymous, late 16th century) This 16-minute work is appropriate for advanced performers and a joy to perform.

His Six Sonatas also known as Musikalisch-türkischer Eulenspiegel were written in 1688 and are a delight to perform This edition by Professor Henry Howey, which includes Sonatas 26 through to 30 includes a nice surprise....an optional continuo part by the composer which can be performed on a harpsichord or even organ. There also is an optional alto trombone part as a substitute for the horn part. For advanced performers. Speer's most famous work Die Bänkelsängerlieder (Sonata 29) is in C major and included in this great collection. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.707842). Bach’s Art of Fugue represents a pinnacle of artistic genius. Each of the 14 fugues and canons is a musical miracle using a variation of a single subject from the initial fugue 1. Written in the last years of his life, the final fugue is unfinished. Contrapunctus VI is in four parts and written in Stylo Francese. This style has little flourishes of scale-like 32nd notes ascending and desending along with dotted rhythms, together called the French style. The work is suitable for advanced performers and is about 5-6 minutes in length. Parts are for 2 Trumpets in C (B-flat parts are provided), Horn, Trombone and Tuba (or Bass Trombone).

Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792256). Handel's Arrival of the Queen of Sheba is one of his many biblical oratorios and was first performed in 1748. Sheba, the powerful Queen and her entourage travels to the Holy Temple in Jerusalem to meet the wise King Solomon. Tradition states that after Solomon correctly answered riddled that she asked, a romance developed. From this encounter Sheba bore Solomon's child, King Menelek, the founder of the Ethiopian empire. This arrangement of about 2 minutes in length, for Brass Quintet with optional timpani is for advanced performers. The 1st B-flat Trumpet part can be performed on Piccolo Trumpet or E-flat trumpet. The work has a joyous, regal and fanfare-like feel.

Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks was commissioned by King George II for fireworks in Green Park, April 27 1749 in celebration of the end of the War of the Austrian Succession. The original instrumentation was for a large wind band of over 60 musicians. Since then it has been scored for many different ensembles. Steven Gamble has scored this wonderful Overture of about 9 minutes in length for advanced level brass quintet: 2 Trumpets in C (part for Piccolo Trumpet in A is included), Horn, Trombone, Tuba or Bass Trombone. The music is scored in the key of C, down a step from the original.

A true work of genius that was first published in 1741 for harpsichord. The Aria a Sarabande about 5 minutes in length in 3/4 is the very first movement of the 30 variation work and is heavily ornamented. Justin Chiang has doubled the time to 6/4 and written out all of the ornaments, making the performance possibilities much more practical.
