I Have a Little Jingle Dreidel-Arranged for Brass Quintet by Jari Villanueva I Have a Little Dreidel (also known as the Dreidel Song) is a children?s traditional Hanukkah song. This popular melody is combined with the traditional holiday tune of Jingle Bells written by James Pierpont in the 1850s. This fun arrangement by Jari Villanueva captures the flavor of the original tunes and would be a great selection for a holiday concert or as a special presentation around Christmas and Hanukkah. Included is a Full Score, 2 Trumpets in Bb, Horn in F, Trombone and Tuba. Gounod wrote this in 1872 as a piano piece and orchestrated it seven years later. He originally conceived of it as one part of a satirical piano suite, the subject of which had nothing to do with puppetry. Once it was completed, however, he had it published as a stand-alone composition with the present title. The occasion of the music is that the Marionette has lost a duel and died; a funeral cortege takes place; the bereaved troupe takes a break then returns to the cortege. Recorded numerous times, the music was also used in several early films but reached its largest audience by far as the theme song for the TV series, ?Alfred Hitchcock Presents," 1955-1965. The current arrangement is based on the composer?s original piano score but has been augmented slightly to take advantage of brass quintet instrumentation. "Jingle Bells" is one of the best-known and commonly sung American songs in the world. It was written by James Lord Pierpont (1822?1893) and published under the title "One Horse Open Sleigh" in the autumn of 1857. It has been claimed that it was originally written to be sung by a Sunday school choir; however, historians dispute this, stating that it was much too "racy" (and secular) to be sung by a children's church choir in the days it was written. Although not originally intended on having any connection to Christmas, it became associated with Christmas music and the holiday season in general decades after it was first performed on Washington Street in Boston in 1857.
