Under Pressure is a 1981 song originally recorded by Queen and David Bowie, and later included on Queen's 1982 album Hot Space. The song reached number one on the UK Singles Chart, becoming the group's second number-one hit in their home country (after 1975's "Bohemian Rhapsody", which topped the chart for nine weeks), and Bowie's third UK number-one. Euday L. Bowman's "12th St. Rag" is a fantastic example of a rag that was reshaped into many different forms by different performers. Our version faithfully reflects the structure of the original composition (I have been unable to find any other arrangements of this that preserve the exciting introduction.) It starts by giving the tuba modified arpeggios (to show who's "boss"!), then we're off and running with the familiar meat of the rag. The primary melody is passed back and forth between the trumpets, with the other instruments either playing offbeats or embroidering around the melody with delicious countermelodic snippets. The trombone part contains a number of Dixieland-style glissandos. Arranged for brass quintet (two Bb trumpets, French horn, trombone, and tuba). Performance time is approximately 2:10.
