The song was also released as a single two months after the album's release with "God Only Knows" as its B-side.[3] In other countries, the sides were flipped, with "Wouldn't It Be Nice" as the single's B-side. Its lyrics describe a couple in love lamenting about being too young to run off to get married, fantasizing about how nice it would be if they were adults. The melody is given to 2nd horn for the first verse, and split amongst all 4 for the rest of the song. Transposed into F to aid the horn player. California Girls This is a song written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love for the American rock band, the Beach Boys featured on their 1965 album Summer Days. Wilson conceived the song during his first acid trip, later arranging and producing the song's recording. Upon its release as a single, "California Girls" reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song is considered emblematic of the 1960s Californian Sound. It is arranged for brass quintet. I have transposed it into Bb, a less problematic key, for playing the bass riff, which is shared amongst tuba, trombone and horn. The melody is shared amongst the 4 upper instruments, and I have given interesting harmony parts to the others, rather than following the melodic line. Hope you enjoy it.
