Wilt Thou Forgive That Sin? (DONNE) - brass quintet
Quintette de Cuivres: 2 trompettes, Cor, trombone, tuba
Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.726119
(+)
Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.726119 Composed by John Hilton (1599-1657). Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christian,Lent,Sacred. 14 pages. Con Spirito Music #6329603. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.726119). Wilt Thou Forgive That Sin? are the opening words to the poem, A Hymn to God the Father, written by the English poet, priest, and scholar John Donne (1572-1631). A theologically rich and poetically masterful text, it presents an appeal to God, in which Donne asks Wilt thou forgive? the original sin into whch man is born (stanza 1) and the personal sins of the individual (stanza 2), and in which he acknowledges his own fear of death and his hope of salvation through God's Son, Jesus Christ (stanza 3). Donne commissioned a tune to accompany the hymn from the English early baroque composer John Hilton (1599-1657), of which Donne's friend and biographer Izaak Walton said, he caused it to be set to a most grave and solemn tune, and to be often sung to the organ by the Choristers of St. Paul’s Church, in his own hearing.... Donne's hymn is especially fitting for penitential seasons (Advent, Lent) and occasions, and this arrangement for brass quintet of Hilton's tune makes an effective meditative selection for offertory or communion at any time. ©2021 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). El Condor Pasa (If I Could)
Quintette de Cuivres: 2 trompettes, Cor, trombone, tuba
Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1402823
(+)
Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1402823 Composed by Daniel Alomia Robles, Jorge Milchberg, and Paul Simon. Arranged by Alan Frazer (arranger) & Peet du Toit (orchestrator). Folk. 10 pages. Peet du Toit #986049. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1402823). This song started out as an Andean folk melody that Paul Simon came across in 1969 when he played a week-long engagement at a theater in Paris along with the South American group Los Incas, who played an instrumental version of the song called Paso Del Condor. Said Simon: I used to hang around every night to hear them play that. I loved it and I would play it all the time, and then I thought, Let's put words to it.The Peruvian songwriter Daniel Robles recorded this song in 1913, and copyrighted it in the United States in 1933 during his travels in America. When Simon recorded it with his added lyrics, he thought it was a traditional song, as that's what Los Incas told him. When Robles' son filed a lawsuit, Simon had to give Robles a composer credit on the song, with his estate getting those royalties. In discussing the song, Simon always talks about it as being based on a traditional Peruvian song, and we've never heard him mention Robles. This wasn't the first time Simon got tangled over songwriting credits on traditional melodies: Simon & Garfunkel's Scarborough Fair / Canticle was based on a folk song, but his arrangement came from a singer named Martin Carthy. Simon was always clear on his influences, but legal misunderstandings were a problem in these cases.Los Incas, who were the group that introduced Simon to the song, provided the instrumentation when they recorded it in Paris with Simon. Their leader, Jorge Milchberg, played a charango, which is an Andean string instrument made from the shell of an armadillo. Simon played acoustic guitar, and other members of Los Incas played flutes and percussion. When Simon brought the track to America, he added his lyrics. This was one of the easier songs to record for the Bridge Over Troubled Water album, since the backing track was already mixed together - it was just a matter of adding the vocals. The title translates to English as The Condor Passes. The lyrics Robles wrote to the song in 1913 are about returning home to his native Peru.Los Incas leader Jorge Milchberg got a composer credit on this song along with Simon and Robles. Milchberg later became the head of the group Urubamba and remained friends with Simon, who toured with them and produced their first American album. >>The Wainwright Sisters covered this for their 2015 Songs in the Dark album. Lucy Wainwright Roche explained to The Sun: I chose 'El Condor Pasa' because it was one of the first songs I ever learned to play on it guitar and it has a childlike quality to it, but it also has a darkness and sadness that fit in well with the album.Paul Simon performed this on both Sesame Street (in 1977) and The Muppet Show (in 1980).

Brass Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.773453 By Eric Clapton. By Eric Clapton and Will Jennings. Arranged by Max Stannard. Contemporary,Rock. Score and parts. 13 pages. Max Stannard Music #3411069. Published by Max Stannard Music (A0.773453). Tears in Heaven is a song by Eric Clapton and Will Jennings, from the 1991 Rush film soundtrack. In an interview with Sue Lawley in 1992, Clapton said of the song, There is a song that I’ve written for a movie, but in actual fact it was in the back of my head but it didn’t really have a reason for being until I was scoring this movie which I did a little while ago and then it sort of had a reason to be. And it is a little ambiguous because it could be taken to be about Conor but it also is meant to be part of the film. Conor, Clapton's four-year-old son, fell from a window of a 53rd-floor New York apartment owned by his mother's friend on March 20, 1991. Clapton arrived at the apartment shortly after the accident. The song was Clapton's best-selling single in the United States and reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100. It won three Grammy Awards for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked Tears in Heaven 362nd on the magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. This arrangement is for brass quintet. Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1465638 By Neil Diamond. By Neil Diamond. Arranged by Will Corbin. Pop. 20 pages. Will Corbin #1044251. Published by Will Corbin (A0.1465638). Neil Diamond is said to have dashed off this song in half an hour in a motel room in Memphis in 1969. It was inspired, he later said, by the then-young daughter of John F. Kennedy. Still later, he said it was actually his wife, Marcia, who provided the muse, but he needed a three-syllable name to fit the music. Whatever. It's an awful song, but audiences love it, in part because it comes with ritual participatory yells and gestures born of many sports stadiums, notably Fenway Park, where it's played in every 8th inning. That's my excuse. If you need alternative instrumentation, I'm happy to help. Contact me at wilcor@aol.com.

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1377730 Composed by Claude Debussy. Arranged by Peet du Toit. 19th Century. 10 pages. Peet du Toit #962324. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1377730). Suite bergamasque (L. 75) is a piano suite by Claude Debussy. He began composing it around 1890, at the age of 28, but significantly revised it just before its 1905 publication. The popularity of the third movement, Clair de lune, has made it one of the composer's most famous works for piano, as well as one of the most famous musical pieces of all time. This is my impression of this Impressionistic piece for a brass quintet.Notes and caution: Each quintet playing it must decide how best to execute the rubatos. I did not bother with that. Do not play this piece if all is not good at pitching, intonation, togetherness, musicality, blending etc. because it will sound terrible and do this music a great injustice.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.767723 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Jerry Lanning. Folk. Score and parts. 28 pages. Jerry Lanning #3047875. Published by Jerry Lanning (A0.767723). The first trumpet in my brass quintet asked for a short feature, and this is it. It’s one of the most difficult tunes to arrange because it’s traditionally harmonised by only two chords (the tonic and the major triad on the flattened leading note). Somehow if you start to reharmonise it, it loses its essential character. So I’ve constructed a largely unrelated intro and coda and an episode in the middle to give variety. The first trumpet part is showy but not too difficult for a competent player, although a big breath is needed at the end. Horn in Eb, Trombone in Bb, Bass in Eb and Bass in Bb parts are provided as alternatives for brass band players.

Published by Bright Music Company (A0.964573). 2 Trumpets in BbHorn in FTromboneTubaThere are already a couple of awesome quintet arrangements of this piece out there. So why have our own? Well…this was originally written specifically for one of our education shows (Sailing the High Seas), but we decided it’s worth putting out into the world because it’s shorter and substantially less taxing than the standard editions. This particular arrangement has been reduced to under 2 minutes, making it perfect for education shows when you want some Dixieland, but you don’t have all day. There’s enough written-in-improv lines (inspired by the Louis Armstrong recordings) to make it feel right, but without requiring actual improvisation. And, as always, there’s ample rest for the higher brass players. This piece is so painless to play that it could be put at the end of any recital, no matter how tiring, and everyone can get through this last piece while taking the audience out with some Dixieland fun.We also have a trio version of this piece!Duration: just under 2 minutes

Published by Robert Delfausse (A0.766947). This piece could be subtitled Homage to Haydn, as I found myself using many aspects of his musical language: clear phrasing and form, unexpected turns, ideas that develop into new ideas, sections of fugue, etc. I call it a finale because it has the same energy as most of his symphonies' final movements. It is suitable for advanced intermediate and professional quintets. It would work well anywhere in a recital, but especially at the end. Duration: 4 minutes, 39 seconds. .

Chicory Music #5370939. Published by Chicory Music (A0.734424). The Boar's Head CarolThis Christmas carol talks about a feast during midwinter in which a wild boar was served as the main dish and its head placed in a situated position to symbolize bravery and abundance. Closely related to the Norse tradition of boar sacrifice to their goddess Freyja during the feast of Winter Solstice, this song originated from an urban legend in Queen's College, Oxford back in the 15th century which tells of how a scholar from Queen’s College managed to kill an attacking boar and offered it at dinner. The song was first published in English during the 1520’s in a book entitled Christmase Carolles Newly Emprynted at London in the flete street, which was written by Jan van Wynken de Worde. It is also said to be the very 1st Christmas carol to ever be publish in English because it dates back that early.Although the modern versions of the song makes no mention of Christmas, the original verses does so in The boar's head we bring with song, in worship of Him that thus sprung, of a Virgin to redress all wrong; NoelThis Intermediate Level arrangement starts out in Bb Major and modulates to C Major for the final chorus. Performance time approx. 1 minute 45 seconds.

The Wedding March by Felix Mendelssohn was composed in 1842 to set the music for the play A Midsummer Night's Dream (Musik zu Ein Sommernachtstraum). It is a piece of music played during wedding ceremonies, at the moment of the bride's entrance, usually preceded by notes of Triumphal Clarins that emphasize the importance of this moment. Morceau Symphonique, Op. 88 by French organist and composer Alexandre Guilmant was composed in 1902 and first used as an examination piece (Morceau de concours) by the Conservatoire de Paris. It is dedicated to his friend Théodore Dubois, the Director of the National Conservatory of Music. (IMSLP)Morceau Symphonique has become one of the staples of the solo Trombone repertoire, a must perform work for aspiring artists because it is jam-packed with so many inspiring musical phrases. This work forces the young performer into thinking in a musical line, combining expressive and technical challenges in a 6-7 minute work.Bob Burnham's fine arrangement is for solo Trombone within the traditional Brass Quintet of 2 Trumpets in B-flat, Horn, Trombone, and Tuba... it really works well!

This dobrado (march style to be presented in concert format) is a tribute to Maestro Clayton Ambre Guimarães, a distinguished clarinet player and conductor of the Sociedade Musical Fraternidade Cordeirense, a unique figure who dedicates his life to Music and the band. This piece was composed for a brass quintet and is challenging because it brings the elements of a complete band distributed among the five instruments. Inspired by the dobrados played by the civil bands in the interior of the State of Rio de Janeiro, it is a great opportunity to expand the repertoire of your quintet with Brazilian authorial music written for this flexible formation of brasses.

Horn,Trumpet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1108151 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Chamber,Christian,Classical,Instructional,Religious. 25 pages. Regis Bookshar #710775. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1108151). Recordare (from Requiem (K. 626) - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart/Franz Xaver Sussmayr - Brass Quintet - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. Hauntingly beautiful is how the Recordare from Mozart's Requiem is often described. Originally written for an orchestra and four vocal soloists, it has now been transcribed by Regis Bookshar for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 3 Bb Trumpets and 2 French Horns, and would be a wonderful addition to any music library. This arrangement will provide students with the opportunity to practice breath control because of its long, sustained phrases, and also to give them the chance to play this beautiful composition, something which they may not have had the opportunity to do, otherwise. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services and is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this arrangement. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (25 pages). The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble has performed the Trumpet Quintet version of the Recordare for funerals, providing beautiful, introspective music for the occasion. There is some controversy surrounding the circumstances of the Requiem's composition because Mozart died before he could complete it. Count Franz von Walsegg had commissioned a Requiem Mass but Mozart had received only half of the payment in advance. So, upon his death on December 5th, 1791, his widow, Constanze, wished to have the work completed secretly by someone else and submit it to the count as having been completed by Mozart to collect the final payment. Joseph von Eybler was one of the first composers to be asked to complete the score and had worked on a number of movements but felt unable to complete the remainder and gave the manuscript back to Constanze Mozart. The task was then given to another composer, Franz Xaver Sussmayr. Sussmayr borrowed some of Eybler's work in making his completion, added his own orchestration to other movements and added several new movements which a Requiem Mass would normally comprise. He then added a final section by adapting the opening two movements which Mozart had written to the different words which finish the Requiem Mass, which according to both Sussmayr and Mozart's wife, was done according to Mozart's directions. The completed score, initially by Mozart but largely finished by Sussmayr, was then dispatched to Count Walsegg complete with a counterfeited signature of Mozart dated 1792. Despite the controversy over how much of the music is actually Mozart's, the commonly performed Sussmayr version has become widely accepted by the public, and is considered one of Mozart's finest compositions. The Recordare is considered by many people to be one of the most beautiful compositions in Mozart's entire catalogue. Regis Bookshar, a trumpet player, has performed the Requiem in concert with a full orchestra, soloists and a chorus and felt that other musicians should have the opportunity to play the hauntingly beautiful Recordare as well. So, in addition to this arrangement for a Brass Quintet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this beautiful composition. There are Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may fine something else which may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I'm certain that this beautiful arrangement of Mozart's Recordare, will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1108143 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Chamber,Christian,Classical,Instructional,Religious. 25 pages. Regis Bookshar #710766. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1108143). Recordare (from Requiem (K. 626) - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart/Franz Xaver Sussmayr - Brass Quintet - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. Hauntingly beautiful is how the Recordare from Mozart's Requiem is often described. Originally written for an orchestra and four vocal soloists, it has now been transcribed by Regis Bookshar for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 2 Bb Trumpets, 2 Trombones and 1 Tuba, and would be a wonderful addition to any music library.
