Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Ballet The Nutcracker debuted in 1892. One of the best-knownscenes from the work is The Dance of Sugar Plum Fairy for its celeste solo. This version forbrass quintet respects the source material but also adds a little extra whimsicalness to thefinal iteration of the tune; at bar 37 the melody is frequently passed from instrument toinstrument and the parts marked with "play out" are bits of the tune. -full duration 2:00

It's Been a Long, Long Time has resurfaced into the mainstream media thanks to the latest Avenger's movie! This song plays on the vinyl turntable as Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter share an intimate dance in the closing scene of the movie. The version here is based off of renowned trumpet soloist Harry James' rendition of the song originally by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne. I included the original sax solo, but also included the chords for those who would like to improvise their own melody. Please enjoy this nostalgic and emotional music!

American Vignettes was composed during 2011 for the Lyric Brass of Pacific Lutheran University. They were looking for a composition to include on a CD of American music and one that would feature each of the musicians. The first movement, ?Barn Dance?, features the first trumpet and after a syncopated, fanfare-style introduction, the movement uses fragments and elaborations of "Old Chisholm Trail" and "Short?nin Bread". For the second movement, I wanted to write a blues and feature the other trumpet player on Flugelhorn. As I was working on the movement, the blues seem very mysterious and lonely, so I titled the movement 4 A.M. Blues. It reflects someone who can?t sleep and is contemplating the deep mysteries of life and feels very alone in the world. Movement 3 is the tuba feature and is called "Spirituals". I use three different spirituals in this movement, "Nobody Knows the Trouble I?ve Seen". "Cotton Needs Picking" and "Every Time I Feel the Spirit." Movement 4 ?Fiesta? is a trombone feature and represents the Southwest. The Southwestern flavor is accomplished through alternating 6/8 and 3/4 and the bright colors of the muted brass playing staccato eighth note rhythms and "ay" sounding motifs. The Horn is featured in the fifth movement ?From Sea to Shining Sea? that starts with a jazz harmony version of ?America the Beautiful? followed by a jazz waltz built from motifs of the song. The last movement is called ?Harlem Jump? and is an up-tempo jive with Be-bop type solos written for each of the musicians. ?

Mr. Tay provides an exceptionally fluid, playable arrangement for brass quintet of this feature song from the 1986 Disney film "An American Tail." This classic song is voiced for 2 trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba with gorgeous harmonization and solo parts for each instrument. This tune is wonderful for weddings, children's concerts, dance/party music and other venues.

This concert piece starts with a classic choral auf H�ndel?s masterpiece, then comes the big surprise: A funky Back Beat with jazzy chords starts and will make your whole audience clap and dance.
