Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.1251338). Domine, ne in Furore by Orlando di Lasso has been arranged for brass quintet by Russell McKinney. The music is taken from the seven Penitential Psalms that Lasso presented for exclusive use in Albrecht’s court shortly after he was appointed Maestro in 1563. The seven Penitential Psalms (6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, & 143 in Anglican numbering) have been in specific liturgical use from early in Western Christianity and therefore were a significant offer to his patron. He added another dimension to his versions by setting each psalm in a different church mode. The numbers in his collection indicates the mode of the setting, rather than the number of the psalm. This arrangement is of the first two sections of Penitential Psalm No. 3 which is Psalm 38 set in the Phrygian Mode.This arrangement is appropriate for moderately advanced performers and does not present any serious challenges for technique, range or endurance.

It is also highly effective as an encore (depending on endurance, particularly of the first trumpeter and hornist), leaving the audience with a rush and energy typified by an effective encore. Besides some minor edits and formatting, the composition was completed the day I hit my ten-year anniversary of serving in the United States Air Force Bands—a fitting anthem to celebrate a decade of service to my wonderful country! The title settled the next day as I began my second decade as an Airman Musician: Valor. The best account is recorded in my personal journal on 27 April 2021: “[Valor] is the Thrower family motto from hundreds of years ago. It’s also a concept that helped get me into [Arizona State University] for my doctoral studies. [Professor] Hickman asked for a very difficult orchestral excerpt during my audition. [Béla Bartók’s “Concerto for Orchestra.â€] I expressed some trepidation, but decided to give it a shot. I nailed it! Then Hickman turned to me with a big smile, ‘I give extra points for valor!’ So I’m pretty sure this little two-minute musical journal entry will keep the name ‘Valor’… as a motivational cheer for my next ten years in the Air Force. Valor! Great courage in the face of danger, especially in battle. Ok, in the face of life’s many battles, Valor it is! And on to the next ten years!†The music is in AA’BA’ form. The B section is heavily influenced by the thematic material of the A section, but with a strongly contrasting mood that could be dubbed quiet dignity. A finale section follows the last A with some motivic twists from throughout the piece, decisively ending with a power that could well be accompanied by a dazzling flurry of fireworks. None of the performers get much of a reprieve throughout the two minutes packed full of notes. The first trumpet part stays in the upper mid-range for most of it, which would absolutely sparkle on an E-flat trumpet (alternate part provided). Second trumpet is also demanding. The horn part demands a decent level of mastery in the high range as well as the low range, vehemently forsaking its traditional role of off beats. The trombone and tuba parts also present their challenges, and never really stop longer than to take a breath. Although this work could conceivably be performed without percussion, doing so is strongly discouraged. The power delivered by the snare, bass, and cymbals, and even the triangle in the B section, make the part arguably indispensable.

Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney sang this as a conversation duet in the 1941 film Babes On Broadway, one of their many screen collaborations. And it's the only song from the film you've ever heard of since. It pops up here and there in movies, and was most famously covered by Frank Sinatra.The lyrics were a product of their times. The original featured the line, Franklin Roosevelt's looks give me a thrill. Sinatra substituted James Durante's looks. Neither works today.This arrangement, for two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba, picks up the original's conversation, passing it among the four higher horns.If you'd like alternative instrumentation, I'm happy to accommodate. Il Canto degli Italiani, conosciuto anche come Fratelli d'Italia, Inno di Mameli, Canto nazionale o Inno d'Italia, è un canto risorgimentale scritto da Goffredo Mameli e musicato da Michele Novaro nel 1847, inno nazionale della Repubblica Italiana. Il testo si compone di sei strofe e un ritornello, che si alterna alle stesse; l'inno è musicato in tempo di 4/4 nella tonalità di si bemolle maggiore. La sesta strofa riprende, con poche variazioni, il testo della prima.Il canto fu molto popolare durante il Risorgimento e nei decenni seguenti, sebbene dopo l'unità d'Italia (1861) come inno del Regno d'Italia fosse stata scelta la Marcia reale, brano ufficiale di Casa Savoia. Il Canto degli Italiani era infatti considerato inadatto alla situazione politica dell'epoca: Fratelli d'Italia, di chiara connotazione repubblicana e giacobina, mal si conciliava con l'esito del Risorgimento, che fu di stampo monarchico.Dopo la seconda guerra mondiale l'Italia diventò una repubblica e il Canto degli Italiani fu scelto, il 12 ottobre 1946, come inno nazionale provvisorio, ruolo che ha conservato anche in seguito rimanendo inno de facto della Repubblica Italiana. Nei decenni si sono susseguite varie iniziative parlamentari per renderlo inno nazionale ufficiale, fino a giungere alla legge nº 181 del 4 dicembre 2017, che ha dato al Canto degli Italiani lo status di inno nazionale de iure.

Parlami d'amore Mariù è un brano musicale italiano del 1932, scritto da Ennio Neri (testo) e Cesare Andrea Bixio (musica) per la voce di Vittorio De Sica (Columbia, WB 5066), che l'avrebbe interpretato nel film Gli uomini, che mascalzoni.... La canzone è dedicata alla moglie di Bixio, Mary, detta Mariù.Stefano Pittaluga, che era il patron della casa cinematografica Cines, fu sostituito da Emilio Cecchi e (non senza qualche nervosismo) impose che il film avesse per colonna sonora principale la canzone Taxi (titolo provvisorio anche della pellicola); permise tuttavia che fosse inserita anche Parlami d'amore Mariù, che risultò poi di tutt'altra memorabilità .Durante le riprese, il regista Mario Camerini e Bixio forzarono l'utilizzo del brano: nella scena della trattoria, in cui De Sica balla con la ragazza, doveva sentirsi in sottofondo un organino suonare. Nottetempo e contro l'avviso della produzione, compositore e regista si fecero appositamente realizzare un rullo per l'organino con la musica della canzone; il rullo fu pronto alle sette del mattino e, poco dopo, Camerini sostituì il rullo dell'organino e iniziarono le riprese con quel sottofondo.Pubblicato in origine dalle edizioni musicali di proprietà di Pittaluga, venne in seguito acquisita dal Gruppo Editoriale Bixio.

Tequila è basata su un ritmo cubano mambo beat. La parola tequila viene gridata tre volte durante il brano.La versione originale del brano, incisa da The Champs il 23 dicembre 1957, è stata pubblicata il 15 gennaio del 1958 dalla Challenge Records come retro del singolo su 7 Train to Nowhere/Tequila. Nel primo caso su ritmo twist, nel secondo in versione calypso.
