Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1323071 Composed by William Billings. Arranged by Nathaniel Hontz. Advent,Christmas,Early Music,Holiday,Sacred. 18 pages. TigerSong LLC #911345. Published by TigerSong LLC (A0.1323071). Early American composer William Billings utilizes the same Christmas text Methinks I hear a Heavenly Host for both his tunes Shiloh and Boston. Shiloh, is a lively tune, alternating between 4/4 time for the verse and 3/2 time for the chorus. This arrangement for brass quintet presents three iterations. The first places the melody in the horn, mimicking the early American proclivity for placing the melody in the tenor voice and a counter line in the soprano voice. The second iteration is a multi-part canon between the trumpets, the low brass, and the horn. The final recapitulation restates the carol, this time with the melody in the first trumpet to soar above the other parts. The iterations can be played individually or together.

Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.911345 By Keith Terrett. By Various. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Jazz,Spiritual,Traditional. 43 pages. Keith Terrett #517391. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.911345). Four Early Jazz Classics from the USA for Brass Quintet includes: 1)Little Brown Jug:It was originally a drinking song. It remained well known as a folk song into the early 20th century. Like many songs which make reference to alcohol, it enjoyed new popularity during the Prohibition era. In 1939, bandleader Glenn Miller recorded and broadcast his swing instrumental arrangement of the tune with great success, and the number became one of the best known orchestrations of the American Big Band era. 2)Frankie & Johnny:Frankie and Johnny (sometimes spelled Frankie and Johnnie; also known as Frankie and Albert or just Frankie) is a traditional American popular song. It tells the story of a woman, Frankie, who finds that her man Johnny was making love to another woman and shoots him dead. Frankie is then arrested; in some versions of the song she is also executed. 3)Tin Roof Blues:Tin Roof Blues is a jazz composition by the New Orleans Rhythm Kings first recorded in 1923. It was written by band members Paul Mares, Ben Pollack, Mel Stitzel, George Brunies and Leon Roppolo. The tune has become a jazz standard and is one of the most recorded and often played New Orleans jazz compositions. 4)Battle Hymn of the Republic:The Battle Hymn of the Republic, also known as Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory outside of the United States, is a song by American writer Julia Ward Howe using the music from the song John Brown’s Body. Howe’s more famous lyrics were written in November 1861, and first published in The Atlantic Monthly in February 1862. The song links the judgment of the wicked at the end of time (Old Testament, Isaiah 63; New Testament, Rev. 19) with the American Civil War. Since that time, it has become an extremely popular and well-known American patriotic song. Arranged here for Brass Quintet, this arrangement is available for most ensembles of your choice, e-mail for other arrangements. An excellent selection for your next concert!

America (My Country, 'Tis of Thee) ? brass quintet
Quintette de Cuivres: 2 trompettes, Cor, trombone, tuba

Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Fourth of July, Patriotic, Americana. Score, Set of Parts. 9 pages. Published by Con Spirito Music (S0.181897). - Score,Set of Parts - Fourth of July,Patriotic,Americana - Con Spirito Music
Although ?America? (aka ?My Country, ?Tis of Thee?) has been a beloved anthem in the US for nearly two centuries, its origin is not American at all, and it is not unique to America as a patriotic song. Sometimes attributed to British writer/musician Henry Carey (c. 1685-1743), the tune likely dates to the 17th century or earlier and has also been attributed to the English composer John Bull, the French composer Jean-Baptiste Lully, and even a Swiss military melody. It was published in England in the 1744 tune book, Thesaurus Musicus, and it gained immediate and lasting popularity when, with the words ?God Save the King,? it was performed in September 1745 at London's Drury Lane and Covent Garden theaters in support of King George II. Eventually, the tune became the national anthem not only of Britain, but of several other nations, including Denmark, Prussia, and Liechtenstein. After the American colonies became independent from England, a variety of new patriotic texts were written to be sung to the tune. In 1831, Samuel F. Smith, a student at Massachusetts? Andover Theological Seminary, wrote the lyrics today known as ?My Country, ?Tis of Thee.? Smith's words and the traditional tune were one of several unofficial national anthems of the United States during the 19th and early 20th centuries. This attractively harmonized, contemporary setting of a long-lived traditional tune will be a favorite of both performers and listeners at patriotic observances. ©Copyright 2015, revised 2020 Todd Marchand / www.ConSpiritoMusic.com

Composed by Traditional American hymn tune. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christian, Sacred, Americana. 15 pages. Published by Con Spirito Music (S0.219155). - - Christian,Sacred,Americana - Con Spirito Music
Eighteenth-centuryBaptist minister, scholar, and hymn-writer Robert Robinson(1735-1790) wrote the hymn text, ?Come Thou Fount of EveryBlessing? in 1757 at the age of 22. Inthe USA, Robinson's hymn is typically set to the tune ?Nettleton,?whose authorship is unclear. Some attribute it to printer John Wyeth, who published it in his Repositoryof Sacred Music, Part Second(1813);others attribute it to Asahel Nettletion, a popular evangelist of theearly nineteenth century who published VillageHymns(1825).However, VillageHymnscontainedtexts only and no music, so there is no evidence that Nettletonactually wrote the tune that carries his name. Suitable for high school to professional ensembles for use in concert, recital, and worship, this intermediate-level arrangement presents the tune straightforwardly tobegin, then follows with a lyrical variation in 4/4 time, a variationin 5/8, and a concluding march. Goodbye! So Long! I'm Headin' Home!: A Medley
Quintette de Cuivres: 2 trompettes, Cor, trombone, tuba

Composed by F. Leslie Smith. Ragtime, Old-time, Americana. Score, Set of Parts. 48 pages. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (S0.86305). - Score,Set of Parts - Ragtime,Old-time,Americana - Sweetwater Brass Press
This novelty is great as either a featured number or as an encore. It is upbeat, a medley of turn-of-the-last-century tunes that, in the tradition of Haydn?s "Farewell" Symphony (No. 45 in F-sharp minor), provides opportunity for four musicians to leave, one by one, until only Tuba remains. It opens at a fast clip with a statement of ?Good-Night, Ladies? followed by a four-measure vamp that is subsequently repeated after nearly every section. First, horn and tuba perform ?There is a Tavern in the Town.? Second, trombone and trumpets combine to ask, ?Bill Bailey, Won?t You Please Come Home.? Third is a close-harmony, ensemble version of ?Goin? Home.? Fourth features exchanges between trumpets and low brass in ?Toot, Toot, Tootsie!? Fifth is an amalgam of all the tunes; this is played four times, each time featuring a different instrument, which then drops out for the rest of the number. The tuba ends the piece and takes a bow. This arrangement was completed in 2014, and performance time runs about 3 minutes, 56 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge; contact him directly at lessmith61@bellsouth.net. Joy to the World — brass quintet

Brass Ensemble,Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1136166 Composed by Lowell Mason (1792-1872). Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christian,Christmas,Holiday,Sacred,Traditional. Score and parts. 12 pages. Con Spirito Music #736195. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1136166). “Joy to the World†is, perhaps, the most widely performed Christmas carol, having appeared in nearly 1800 different hymnals since its initial publication, according to hymnary.org.The text was written by the prolific English hymn-writer Isaac Watts (1674-1748) as a paraphrase of Psalm 98 and published in his Psalms of David Imitated (1719) under the heading “The Messiah's Coming and Kingdom.†The paraphrase is a Christological interpretation of the psalm — i.e., an understanding of a passage of Old Testament scripture as pointing to the Christ of the New Testament. As hymn texts and tunes were often printed separately, Watts indicated that “Joy to the World†should be sung to any Common Meter (CM) tune — a poetic meter consisting of four lines that alternate between iambic tetrameter and iambic trimeter, with each foot consisting of an unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable. Consider the CM tunes, “Amazing Grace†and “O Little Town of Bethlehem,†for example — both very different from the tune commonly associated with Watts’ text today. That tune was written, or at least arranged, by the American hymn-writer and music educator Lowell Mason (1792-1872) and published in The National Psalmist (Boston, 1848). Mason had published three earlier arrangements of the tune he named “ANTIOCH,†the first in 1836 and attributed as being “from Handel.†Although Mason was a great admirer and student of Handel's music, and though the first four notes of Mason's “ANTIOCH†are the same as the first four in the chorus “Lift up your heads†from Handel's Messiah, the similarity ends there. This arrangement for brass quintet features a “bell-toneâ€-like fanfare in the introduction, interlude, and ending; textural contrasts between high and low brass; and tasteful re-harmonizations of the tune in the middle and concluding verses.©Copyright 2022 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1230998 By African - American Spiritual. By Traditional Spiritual. Arranged by Dennis Ruello. 20th Century,Historic,Jazz,Spiritual,Traditional. 23 pages. Chicory Music #826635. Published by Chicory Music (A0.1230998). Gospel music has infiltrated the New Orleans jazz repertoire since the very early days of jazz. Although gospel songs were traditionally played by jazz bands at funerals or church, it is now common that these songs are also played in secular venues. “Down by the Riverside†is an example of such a song, adapted by jazz musicians to fit the New Orleans jazz or brass band style. It has been a staple in New Orleans jazz since at least the early 1920s. This arrangement for Brass Quintet plus optional Acoustic Bass and Drum Set is written in the style of a New Orleans Brass Band, the kind of tune you might hear at a Second Line Parade or Jazz Funeral. Play this piece with the attitude: Laissez les bons temps rouler ( Let the good times roll ).  Performance Time: Approx. 2 minutes 40 seconds
