Ultimate Sacrifice, Op. 152, for brass quintet was started 15 Oct 2023 during the compositional process of “America’s 250th” and was completed 4 Apr 2024 with a title that has reference to both Jesus Christ and military personnel who perished in the line of duty. The scriptural reference used in the subtitle, John 15:13, though obviously referring directly to the Savior, has also been used to parallel anyone who has sacrificed their life for the good of another: “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Atypical of my compositions, this does not end in the key in which it began. The depth of sacrifice herein extolled yields an unalterable loss. Duration: 4:00.Although this work had been prepared for publication, it was not released for months, which is not common for my works. On July 13, 2024, an attempt was made to assassinate the former president during a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. The touching news of a hero who instinctively shielded his wife and daughter reached my ears, and I decided to fittingly dedicate this composition, “Ultimate Sacrifice” to my new hero, Corey Comperatore. May his selfless courage inspire this struggling world.

Con te partirò (With You I Shall Depart) is an Italian song written by Francesco Sartori (music) and Lucio Quarantotto (lyrics). It was first performed by Andrea Bocelli at the 1995 Sanremo Music Festival and recorded on his album of the same year, Bocelli. The single was first released as an A-side single with Vivere in 1995, topping the charts, first in France, where it became one of the best-selling singles of all-time, and then in Belgium, breaking the all-time record sales there.A second version of the song, sung partly in English, released in 1996 as Time to Say Goodbye, paired Bocelli with British soprano Sarah Brightman, and achieved even greater success, topping charts all across Europe, including Germany, where it became the biggest-selling single in history. Brightman and Bocelli produced a version with Brightman singing in German and Bocelli in Italian, with this version being available on the CD Time to Say Goodbye. That version alone has now sold more than 12 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling singles of all time.I hope this cover thereof for a Brass Quintet is pleasing to the players and their audience.

Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1373864). Black Coffee is a song with music by Sonny Burke and words by Paul Francis Webster. The song was published in 1948.It's first two measures are nearly identical to Mary Lou Williams' 1938 piece What's Your Story Morning Glory, and both songs share melodic motifs drawn from blues (including a strong melodic emphasis on the flat third and flat seventh intervals, known as blue notes). Williams felt that Burke and Webster plagiarized her composition, and reportedly considered taking legal action over the matter. The two songs have significant melodic and rhythmic differences after the first two measures of their respective 'A' sections, and Black Coffee has a unique bridge section that has no parallel in Morning Glory. However, during her piano solo, Williams plays both the identical feel and harmonies that appear on Black Coffee, with dominant chords moving up and down by half steps in lieu of staying on the tonic chord. While not a carbon copy, Burke and Webster arguably picked sections of What's Your Story Morning Glory to string together to create a new song. Coincidentally, jazz trumpeter Paul Webster (no relation to lyricist Paul Francis Webster) was given co-writer credit for Morning Glory by Williams when she published her song in 1938.My dear friend, Sam Harrill, has added his percussion magic some years later, and I am re-posting this for greater effect. (also known as Proud to Be an American) is an American patriotic song written and recorded by American country music artist Lee Greenwood, and is considered to be his signature song. The first album it appears on is 1984's You've Got a Good Love Comin'.
