Published by https://gildedmusicpress.com/ (A0.1158017). Dr. Thrower grew up near the granite hills of northern Utah. As he composed this short fanfare, the octaves in the tuba and trombone conjured images of a solid foundation for the upper brass to build on. The imagery of a granite monolith powerfully provided a suitable title. He pictured himself back in the mountains of his youth, standing on seemingly eternal ground that even an earthquake would have difficulty cracking. The grandeur of that feeling of security and connection to something safe and firm is hopefully reflected in the power of the strong notes of this brief fanfare. Pictured on the cover is “Devil’s Tower†located in Wyoming. Although not in Utah, this monolith is a dramatic specimen, worthy of the intended musical imagery of this fanfare. The piece was composed for the student brass quintet at the University of Texas at San Antonio. The premiere performance opened their exciting concert on December 1, 2010. It has since been performed by various brass quintets throughout the United States, including universities and military ensembles.

Originally composed for two choirs (one of 5 voices, one of 4 voices) this adaptation has been arranged for tuba quintet.Performance Notes:Optional repeat included to match the original 5 verses. Without the accompanying lyrics, minor liberties have been taken with the repeated rhythms beginning each verse. Interpretation adapted from the 1824 manuscript by Anton Friedrich Justus Thibaut. There seems to be a dearth of literature for brass quintet that addresses the folk songs of Israel. ? Mazel Tov! ? is an arrangement of several of these folk tunes. Included are: Chusen Kala Mazel Tov, Avinu Malkenu, Hasidic Waltz, Dodi Li, I have a Little Dreidel, Hatikvah and Hava Nagilla. Arranging this piece was a way for me to research and hear most of this music for the first time. It is very playable and a nice addition to any program. I hope you enjoy playing it.
