Timing: 6-8 MinutesDifficulty- later Intermediate -Advanced, due to the key signature.Suitable For: Any time of the year, but especially around Christmas time, or at a concert that needs a Medieval flair.Gaudete is perhaps the most famous Christmas melody from the Middle Ages, likely dating from the 1500s, and covered by many a modern band, including The King's Singers, Erasure, and Steeleye Span, to name a few.To write this piece, I took motifs from the tune and wrote my own melodies, avoiding a direct transcription of any part of the original melody. Mvt 1, Fanfare, is a bright opening to the suite. After all, the word Gaudete translates to “rejoice”!Mvt 2 plays with the Pavane and Galliard feel. Both are distinct dances, and while this movement is more somber than danceable to the average listener, it utilizes some tricks that the medieval composers used, as well as draws inspiration from medieval compositional techniques for harmonies. Just like medieval dances, if you were to add a repeat sign at the end, you could play this movement ad nauseam and choose to never end it.Mvt 3, Scherzo, plays with your expectation of time but is a fun jaunt after the serious tone of Mvt 2 nonetheless. If you like Gordon Jacob (not a Renaissance composer), you’ll probably like this movement.I’ve included Mvt 0, Just Gaudete, as a bonus. You may begin or end the suite with this movement, play the opening statement to introduce the audience to the tune, or omit it entirely. You may even shuffle the order of movements if you’d like.

Published by Will Corbin (A0.1461282). This is truly international music: written by a Dane in the style of an Argentinian tango with a French title, which means jealousy. (Its complete original name is Jalousie 'Tango Tzigane' (Jealousy Gypsy Tango).The piece was written in 1925 but first recorded 10 years later by the Boston Pops Orchestra under the direction of the beloved Arthur Fiedler.Thanks to the Danish National Symphony, whose version of the song provided inspiration for many of the licks in this arrangement.This is scored with a baritone instead of trombone (for the gentler touch), but I've also attached a trombone part. Genesis 28:11–12 can be translated as follows: So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it…. The hymn is well known, among other uses, as the alleged last song the band on RMS Titanic played before the ship sank. Questa celebre Ave Maria risale molto probabilmente al XVI secolo ed è tradizionalmente attribuita al compositore franco-fiammingo Jacques (o Jacob) Arcadelt (1505-1568) che fu anche magister puerorum (cioè: direttore del coro delle voci bianche) e successivamente maestro del coro della Cappella Sistina in Roma. In realtà , questo brano – nella versione che noi conosciamo e con le parole del saluto angelico – fu edito per la prima volta nel 1842 da Pierre-Louis Philippe Dietsch (1808 - 1865), un oscuro e modesto compositore francese, che riprendeva la chanson profana a tre voci Nous voyons que les hommes, questa sì composta da Jacques Arcadelt per sole voci femminili ed apparsa per la prima volta a stampa nel 1554 in Tiers livre de chansons, nouvellement mises en musique à quatre, presso l’editore Le Roy & Ballard, in Parigi. La parte del basso, in particolare, è interamente lavoro di Dietsch che ne ha anche modificato l’assetto ritmico per adattarlo al nuovo testo, e ha aggiunto la cadenza plagale con la parola conclusiva Amen. Vari musicisti, in seguito, si sono cimentati sia nel modificare le linee di battuta, sia le durate di alcune note, sia la stessa divisione delle sillabe, per tentare  di correggere quello che è considerato lo stress della parola latina.

\\\"Resonet in Laudibus\\\" (\\\"Let the voice of praise resound\\\") is a Medieval carol known in Europe at least since its appearance in the Moosburg Gradual of 1360, and probably much earlier. Today, it is well-known as the tune accompanying the text of the traditional German carol, \\\"Joseph Lieber, Joseph Mein\\\" (\\\"Joseph Dearest, Joseph Mine\\\") and John Mason Neale\\\'s \\\"Christ Was Born on Christmas Day.\\\"
The tune appears in the Medieval songbook, Piae Cantiones (Pious Songs), compiled by the Finnish priest and headmaster Jaakko Suomalainen (aka Jacobus Finno, or \\\"James the Finn\\\") and published in 1582. Ralph Vaughan Williams harmonized the tune and included it in the English Hymnal (1906), of which he was music editor.
This lovely, lilting tune is an ideal vehicle for a sonorous arrangement for brass quintet.
