Brass Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1372453 By Soprano and Brass Quintet. By Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Classical. 18 pages. Peet du Toit #956760. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1372453). This religious solo motet was composed when Mozart was staying in Milan. During the production of his opera Lucio Silla which was being performed there in the Teatro Regio Ducale. It was written for the castrato Venanzio Rauzzini, who had sung the part of the primo uomo Cecilio in Lucio Silla the previous year. While waiting for the end of the run (from 26 December 1772 to 25 January 1773), Mozart composed the motet for his singer, whose technical excellence he admired. Its first performance took place at the Theatine Church on 17 January 1773, while Rauzzini was still singing in Mozart's opera at night. Mozart made some revisions around 1780. On 30 May 1779, a Trinity Sunday, a revised version was performed by Francesco Ceccarelli at the Holy Trinity Church, Salzburg. Another revised version was intended for Christmas. The manuscripts of the two Salzburg versions were discovered in 1978 in St. Jakob, Wasserburg am Inn. In modern times, the motet is usually sung by a female soprano.I was tempted to combine the soprano and a brass quintet. We have performed this arrangement quite successfully at many venues, including a national music festival (Wakkerstroom, South Africa, March 2023).

It is October 31, Halloween, late in the evening. Outside, a slight but chilling wind blows. Inside, the pendulum of the great clock ticks slowly back and forth, back and forth. Somewhere a faucet drips arrhythmically. Suddenly, the clock strikes twelve. And, it all starts. The ghosts, the goblins, the witches and all their familiars?these are the beings that hold sway on The Eerie Night. This Halloween fantasy was inspired by a jingle the composer learned many years before while in primary school. Attributed to Lillian Mohr Fox, the words accompanying the tune described ?witches on broomsticks with cats and bats? and ?spooky . . . noises on Hallowe?en night.? ?The Eerie Night,? composed for brass quintet, emulates the supposed ghostly environment of Halloween with generous (and eerie!) use of the lower brass instruments. Trumpets provide emphasis, punctuation and occasional screeches, while the Horn in F harmonizes with Trombone and, at one point, shrieks like a cat. The haunting and scaring builds and builds until just before the end, when absolute cacophonous bedlam occurs. Gradually, things quiet down. The nightmare is ended, and we?re back to the clock, the wind and the faucet. Completed in 2017, this composition runs about 4 minutes, 40 seconds. The composer, Les Smith, would be very interested in your comments on this piece; contact him at lessmith@ufl.edu or leave a review on the SheetMusicPlus website. Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Digital Download SKU: A0.1158495 Composed by Haans Eisler. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Historic,Multicultural,Patriotic,Traditional,World. 10 pages. Keith Terrett #758783. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1158495). The former East German National Anthem arranged for Brass Quintet. In 1949, the Soviet occupation zone of Allied-occupied Germany became a socialist state under the name of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). For the nascent state's national anthem, the poet Johannes Becher, who later became the East German Minister of Culture, wrote the lyrics. Two musicians, Ottmar Gerster and Hanns Eisler, proposed music to Becher's lyrics, and Eisler's version was selected. History Written in 1949, the East German national anthem reflects the early stages of German separation, in which continuing progress towards reunification of the occupation zones was seen by most Germans as appropriate and natural. Consequently, Becher's lyrics develop several connotations of unity and combine them with fatherland (einig Vaterland), meaning Germany as a whole. However, this concept soon would not conform to an increasingly icy Cold War context, especially after the Berlin Wall had been erected in 1961 by the East German government.[1] In September 1973, East and West Germany were admitted to the United Nations simultaneously, following talks between the two governments that conferred a degree of mutual recognition. The term Germany was later removed from the East German constitution, and only the national anthem's tune was played on official occasions. No new lyrics were ever written to replace Becher's, which continued to be used unofficially, especially after die Wende in late 1989: once it became clear that the countries were actually moving towards reunification, East German television Deutscher Fernsehfunk reinstated the work and signed off every night with a joyous symphonic rendition of the vocal arrangement, with accompanying picturesque footage of East Germany's main tourist attractions. Auferstanden aus Ruinen ceased to be a national anthem when the German Democratic Republic dissolved and its states joined the Federal Republic of Germany as a result of German reunification in 1990. Deutschlandlied, composed in 1841, became the national anthem of a united Germany again. East German Premier Lothar de Maizière had proposed that Becher's lyrics be added to the united German national anthem, but this was rejected by his West German counterpart, chancellor Helmut Kohl. At the end of its last broadcast on 2 October 1990, the East German international radio broadcaster Radio Berlin International signed off with a vocal version of the East German national anthem. In November 1995, Auferstanden aus Ruinen was played again when German President Roman Herzog visited Brazil. This was the first event at which the anthem had been played since the German reunification.

Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1404796). James Wells, Moderator of the United Free Church of Scotland, tells the story of a little girl carrying a big baby boy in his 1884 book The Parables of Jesus. Seeing her struggling, someone asked if she wasn't tired. With surprise she replied: No, he's not heavy; he's my brother. He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother is a ballad written by Bobby Scott and Bob Russell. Originally recorded by Kelly Gordon in 1969, the song became a worldwide hit for the Hollies later that year and also a hit for Neil Diamond in 1970. It has been recorded by many artists in subsequent years. The Hollies' version was re-released in 1988 and again was a major hit in the UK.Scott and Russell were introduced to each other by Johnny Mercer, at a California nightclub. Although Russell was dying of lymphoma and the pair met only three times, they managed to collaborate on the song. Not sure how many brass quintet versions of this music is available, but here's my representation of it. Enjoy!

(+)
Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1402823 Composed by Daniel Alomia Robles, Jorge Milchberg, and Paul Simon. Arranged by Alan Frazer (arranger) & Peet du Toit (orchestrator). Folk. 10 pages. Peet du Toit #986049. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1402823). This song started out as an Andean folk melody that Paul Simon came across in 1969 when he played a week-long engagement at a theater in Paris along with the South American group Los Incas, who played an instrumental version of the song called Paso Del Condor. Said Simon: I used to hang around every night to hear them play that. I loved it and I would play it all the time, and then I thought, Let's put words to it.The Peruvian songwriter Daniel Robles recorded this song in 1913, and copyrighted it in the United States in 1933 during his travels in America. When Simon recorded it with his added lyrics, he thought it was a traditional song, as that's what Los Incas told him. When Robles' son filed a lawsuit, Simon had to give Robles a composer credit on the song, with his estate getting those royalties. In discussing the song, Simon always talks about it as being based on a traditional Peruvian song, and we've never heard him mention Robles. This wasn't the first time Simon got tangled over songwriting credits on traditional melodies: Simon & Garfunkel's Scarborough Fair / Canticle was based on a folk song, but his arrangement came from a singer named Martin Carthy. Simon was always clear on his influences, but legal misunderstandings were a problem in these cases.Los Incas, who were the group that introduced Simon to the song, provided the instrumentation when they recorded it in Paris with Simon. Their leader, Jorge Milchberg, played a charango, which is an Andean string instrument made from the shell of an armadillo. Simon played acoustic guitar, and other members of Los Incas played flutes and percussion. When Simon brought the track to America, he added his lyrics. This was one of the easier songs to record for the Bridge Over Troubled Water album, since the backing track was already mixed together - it was just a matter of adding the vocals. The title translates to English as The Condor Passes. The lyrics Robles wrote to the song in 1913 are about returning home to his native Peru.Los Incas leader Jorge Milchberg got a composer credit on this song along with Simon and Robles. Milchberg later became the head of the group Urubamba and remained friends with Simon, who toured with them and produced their first American album. >>The Wainwright Sisters covered this for their 2015 Songs in the Dark album. Lucy Wainwright Roche explained to The Sun: I chose 'El Condor Pasa' because it was one of the first songs I ever learned to play on it guitar and it has a childlike quality to it, but it also has a darkness and sadness that fit in well with the album.Paul Simon performed this on both Sesame Street (in 1977) and The Muppet Show (in 1980).

Brass Quintet - Intermediate - Digital Download By Randy Travis, Roger Miller. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Individual Part, Score, Set of Parts. 8 pages. Published by Music for all Occasions
An arrangement of the evergreen top hit song from 1964 ''King of the Road'', set for classical Brass Quintet. "King of the Road" is a song written by country singer Roger Miller, who first recorded it in November 1964. The lyrics tell of the day-to-day life of a hobo who, despite being poor (a "man of means by no means"), revels in his freedom, describing himself humorously and cynically as the "king of the road". It was Miller's fifth single for Smash Records. The popular crossover record hit No. 1 on the US Country chart, No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 1 on the Easy Listening surveys. It was also No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart, and in Norway. Miller recalled that the song was inspired when he was driving and saw a sign on the side of a barn that read, "Trailers for sale or rent".[6] This would become the opening line of the song. The song has been covered by many other artists, including George Jones, Dean Martin, Val Doonican, Jack Jones, James Booker, The Fabulous Echoes, Boney M., R.E.M., Johnny Paycheck, Glen Campbell, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Boxcar Willie, Randy Travis, Rangers, James Kilbane, John Stevens, the Statler Brothers, Rufus Wainwright and Teddy Thompson, Giant Sand, Peligro, The Proclaimers, Ray Conniff Singers, The Reverend Horton Heat, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Jim White. James "The King" Brown (an Elvis impersonator) performed the song for a 2001 Audi commercial on German TV.[7] Of R.E.M.'s version, a shambolic, drunken, offhand rendering, guitarist Peter Buck would later comment, "If there was any justice in the world, Roger Miller should be able to sue for what we did to this song." "King of the Road" was performed live by Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Marty Stuart, Dwight Yoakam and Dolly Parton during Miller's posthumous induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame at the 1995 CMA Awards ceremony. The song is featured in Wim Wenders' 1976 film Im Lauf der Zeit (In the Course of Time; English title Kings of the Road). It is also played at the beginning of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Brokeback Mountain, Into the Wild (2007), Traveller (1997), and Swingers (1996). Miller performs it in the concert film The Big T.N.T. Show. The recording by The Proclaimers is included in the film The Crossing (1990). Near the end of their official music video, the pair are shown reading a newspaper whose headline is "Roger Miller, King of Plugs". Miller's recording appears in an episode of the Super Dave TV show, where Super Dave Osborne (Bob Einstein) sings along while sitting at a piano mounted on top of his tour bus. The bus eventually goes into a low tunnel, slamming into the piano and Osborne and pushing them off the bus and onto the ground. A send-up version by English entertainer Billy Howard was a British chart hit in 1976. A German take by the band Wise Guys exists, the parody referring to speeding on the Autobahn.
