This fresh setting of the Welsh tune, HYFYRDOL, works perfectly for an offertory, prelude, or devotional function. Although written for the Advent season, the multiple familiar hymns set with this tune (Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus; Praise the Lord, Ye Heavens Adore Him; Jesus, What a Friend for Sinners, and others) make the piece suitable throughout the church year. It is readily performed by high school or higher musicians yet still contains sufficient variety and artistic expression to be rewarding for even advanced performers. It conveys an attitude of appreciation and gratitude for the nation's extraordinary physical beauty and abundance, without triumphalism. This setting for brass quintet is a chorale version using harmonization and passing tones to make the hymn a bit more interesting to perform and listen to. A retired member of the United States Air Force Band, where he served on the Music Production staff (as well as a trumpeter and bugler) and student of Bill Holcombe, Jari Villanueva continues writing for different ensembles. His arrangements are played by brass quintets all over the country including many military groups. Many of his arrangements can be found on Sheet Music Plus and JV MUSIC.

Contrasting textures, changing key centers, and rich harmonies make this unique arrangement of a beloved Irish folk melody ideal as a prelude to worship, or as an offertory or communion anthem.

This much-loved ballad by Leonard Cohen is presented here for brass quintet. The music is arranged in three verses (the song is strophic), each one exploring various uses of the ensemble. Solos are provided for many instruments, and the piece ends the way it starts - with a solo horn. Make the most of the dynamics in performance and aim for a full tone throughout, even in the quieter sections.

"Penny Lane" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles that was released in February 1967 as a double A-side single with "Strawberry Fields Forever". It was written primarily by Paul McCartney and credited to the Lennon?McCartney songwriting partnership. The lyrics refer to Penny Lane, a street in Liverpool, and make mention of the sights and characters that McCartney recalled from his upbringing in the city.

The solo (piccolo trumpet in the original) is played on standard trumpet using harmon mute, and drops it down an octave. It still sounds "brilliant"
