Arranged brass quintetLincolnshire Posy is a musical composition by Percy Aldridge Grainger for concert band commissioned in 1937 by the American Bandmasters Association. Considered by John Bird, the author of Grainger's biography, to be his masterpiece, the 16-minute-long work has six movements, each adapted from folk songs that Grainger had collected on a 1905–1906 trip to Lincolnshire, England.In a similar fashion to these folk songs, many of the movements are in strophic form.This is my arrangement of  mvt. No.II Harkstow Grange (alternate spelling Horkstow Grange)In strophic form, in the concert band version the theme is stated by the clarinets and horns at the opening of the movement. Shifting between 44 and 54 time, the movement features a cornet solo, which is often substituted with soprano saxophone.In my version the opening solo is given to the horn, accompanied by the lower brass. The cornet solo is played by the 2nd tpt muted.It is in the original key.

Nigel Williams #1054681. Published by Nigel Williams (A0.1477258). A hymn concertato arrangement of the last verse of this popular Christmas hymn, for descant sopranos, brass quintet and organ. There is an optional two bar link before the verse begins at bar 3. The fifteen page download includes a one page soprano descant score, five individual brass parts and a two page organ score. The brass quintet parts are more advanced in difficulty level, the soprano descant and organ parts are intermediate in difficulty level. The descant is new and fresh, and the harmonies used to support it are closely related to the familiar harmonization by Mendelssohn. The trumpet parts in particular are fanfare-like while the lower three instruments support the hymn tune and harmony. The setting for brass quintet and vocalist came about in 2020 for the USAF Heartland of America Band's Offutt Brass to perform as a tribute to all the mothers and fathers who are deployed as military members to preserve the freedoms we hold dear. A tear-jerker in this light, to be sure! In normal performance settings, it is extremely heartwarming and packed with deep parental emotions. The trumpet parts call for flugelhorns to increase the warm nature of the composition.

This makes it an ideal arrangement for Christmas Day. The third verse allows the sopranos to sing a new and fresh descant while the congregation and ATB members of the choir sing in unison, accompanied by the organ and 1st trumpet. A short two-bar link passage allows the music to modulate up a key to A flat major. Arranged standard brass quintet Mozart's textual inspiration is apparent in the Tuba mirum (Hark, the trumpet) movement, which is introduced with a sequence of three notes in arpeggio, played in B♠major by a solo tenor trombone, unaccompanied, in accordance with the usual German translation of the Latin tuba, Posaune (trombone). Two measures later, the bass soloist enters, imitating the same theme. At m. 7, there is a fermata, the only point in all the work at which a solo cadence occurs. The final quarter notes of the bass soloist herald the arrival of the tenor, followed by the alto and soprano in dramatic fashion. On the text Cum vix justus sit securus (When only barely may the just one be secure), there is a switch to a homophonic segment sung by the quartet at the same time, articulating, without accompaniment, the cum and vix on the strong (1st and 3rd), then on the weak (2nd and 4th) beats, with the violins and continuo responding each time; this interruption (which one may interpret as the interruption preceding the Last Judgment) is heard sotto voce, forte and then piano to bring the movement finally into a crescendo into a perfect cadence. My arrangement gives the trombone part to the horn, and the vocal entries are given to the trombone, horn and two trumpets. . Section III of the requiem is titled “Sequenz†(sequentia or sequence). It is made up of the following pieces I have arrangements of all of them, for varying types of ensemble * Dies irae * Tuba mirum * Rex tremendae * Recordare * Confutatis * Lacrymosa. I have also arranged Mozarts Motet “Ave Verum Corpus†K618.
