Horn,Trumpet - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1108151 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Chamber,Christian,Classical,Instructional,Religious. 25 pages. Regis Bookshar #710775. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1108151). Recordare (from Requiem (K. 626) - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart/Franz Xaver Sussmayr - Brass Quintet - Advanced/Intermediate - . Hauntingly beautiful is how the Recordare from Mozart's Requiem is often described. Originally written for an orchestra and four vocal soloists, it has now been transcribed by Regis Bookshar for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 3 Bb Trumpets and 2 French Horns, and would be a wonderful addition to any music library. This arrangement will provide students with the opportunity to practice breath control because of its long, sustained phrases, and also to give them the chance to play this beautiful composition, something which they may not have had the opportunity to do, otherwise. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services and is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this arrangement. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (25 pages). The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble has performed the Trumpet Quintet version of the Recordare for funerals, providing beautiful, introspective music for the occasion. There is some controversy surrounding the circumstances of the Requiem's composition because Mozart died before he could complete it. Count Franz von Walsegg had commissioned a Requiem Mass but Mozart had received only half of the payment in advance. So, upon his death on December 5th, 1791, his widow, Constanze, wished to have the work completed secretly by someone else and submit it to the count as having been completed by Mozart to collect the final payment. Joseph von Eybler was one of the first composers to be asked to complete the score and had worked on a number of movements but felt unable to complete the remainder and gave the manuscript back to Constanze Mozart. The task was then given to another composer, Franz Xaver Sussmayr. Sussmayr borrowed some of Eybler's work in making his completion, added his own orchestration to other movements and added several new movements which a Requiem Mass would normally comprise. He then added a final section by adapting the opening two movements which Mozart had written to the different words which finish the Requiem Mass, which according to both Sussmayr and Mozart's wife, was done according to Mozart's directions. The completed score, initially by Mozart but largely finished by Sussmayr, was then dispatched to Count Walsegg complete with a counterfeited signature of Mozart dated 1792. Despite the controversy over how much of the music is actually Mozart's, the commonly performed Sussmayr version has become widely accepted by the public, and is considered one of Mozart's finest compositions. The Recordare is considered by many people to be one of the most beautiful compositions in Mozart's entire catalogue. Regis Bookshar, a trumpet player, has performed the Requiem in concert with a full orchestra, soloists and a chorus and felt that other musicians should have the opportunity to play the hauntingly beautiful Recordare as well. So, in addition to this arrangement for a Brass Quintet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this beautiful composition. There are Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may fine something else which may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I'm certain that this beautiful arrangement of Mozart's Recordare, will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1108148 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Chamber,Christian,Classical,Instructional,Religious. 25 pages. Regis Bookshar #710771. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1108148). Recordare (from Requiem (K. 626) - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart/Franz Xaver Sussmayr - Brass Quintet - Advanced/Intermediate - . Hauntingly beautiful is how the Recordare from Mozart's Requiem is often described. Originally written for an orchestra and four vocal soloists, it has now been transcribed by Regis Bookshar for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 3 Bb Trumpets, 1 Trombone and 1 Tuba, and would be a wonderful addition to any music library. Michael Maybrick wrote music for ?The Holy City? in 1892 under the name, ?Stephen Adams.? Frederic Weatherly wrote the lyrics. The song was popular from the beginning, then experienced a resurgence when sung by Jeanette MacDonald in the 1936 film, San Francisco. Victorian in both words and melody, ?The Holy City? nonetheless remains a frequent performance piece today. The current arrangement is based on the original 1892 sheet music but has been augmented to take advantage of brass quintet instrumentation. Completed in 2012, this arrangement runs about 4 minutes, 47 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (e.g., Treble Clef Baritone for Trombone) at no charge; contact him directly at lessmith61@bellsouth.net. For more arrangements by Les, enter "Sweetwater Brass Press" (without the quotation marks) in the SheetMusicPlus search box.

Or for young rakes with veneral disease and an addiction to alcohol. Whatever the case, it has been through many iterations, many names and many supposed composers. Louis Armstrong's 1928 recording put it permanently on the U.S. blues/jazz map. This rendition is inspired in part by a treatment by Troy Andrews, otherwise, and mostly, known as Trombone Shorty. If you need alternative instrumentation, please contact me at wilcor@aol.com.

Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1109895 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Classical,Religious,Sacred. 8 pages. RayThompsonMusic #712266. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1109895). Arranged standard brass quintet. A beautiful piece of music. It suits the brass quintet. The Lacrimosa (Latin for weeping/tearful), also a name that derives from Our Lady of Sorrows, a title given to The Virgin Mary, is part of the Dies Irae sequence in the Roman Catholic Requiem Mass. Its text comes from the Latin 18th and 19th stanzas of the sequence. Lacrimosa dies illa Qua resurget ex favilla Judicandus homo reus. Huic ergo parce, Deus: Pie Jesu Domine, Dona eis requiem. Amen. Full of tears will be that day When from the ashes shall arise The guilty man to be judged; Therefore spare him, O God, Merciful Lord Jesus, Grant them eternal rest. Amen. The piece begins piano on a rocking rhythm in 12/8, intercut with quarter rests, which will be reprised after two bars, on Lacrimosa dies illa (This tearful day). Then follows a diatonic progression, in disjointed eighth-notes on the text resurget (will be reborn), then legato and chromatic on a powerful crescendo. The music is forte by bar 8, at which point Mozart's contribution to the movement is interrupted by his death. Süssmayr brings the music to a reference of the Introit and ends on an Amen cadence. Discovery of a fragmentary Amen fugue in Mozart's hand has led to speculation that it may have been intended for the Requiem. Indeed, many modern completions (such as Levin's) complete Mozart's fragment. Some sections of this movement are quoted in the Requiem mass of Franz von Suppé, who was a great admirer of Mozart. Ray Robinson, the music scholar and president (from 1969 to 1987) of the Westminster Choir College, suggests that Süssmayr used materials from Credo of one of Mozart's earlier masses, Mass in C major, K. 220 Sparrow in completing this movement.

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1221432 By Stan Kenton & His Orchestra. By L. Wolfe Gilbert, Marion Sunshine, and Moises Simons. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Jazz,Latin,Multicultural,Pop,World. 39 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #817754. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1221432). Can a brass quintet sound like Stan Kenton’s 19-piece big band? No, not really:  no saxophones, no rhythm section, no Milt Bernhart, no Maynard Ferguson, no Bill Russo, no Conte Candoli, no . . .  Well, you get the picture.  But five brass instruments can play in the Kenton style.  And that’s what this is:  “The Peanut Vendor†in the style of the Stan Kenton Orchestra.   Moisés Simons’ “El Manisero†(“The Peanut Vendorâ€) was first recorded in the late 1920s.  The melody was relatively simple yet exotic sounding; the lyrics, a Cuban street vendor’s pitch for selling his bags of peanuts.  Consumers bought more than a million copies of the sheet music, and the song supposedly led to a “rumba craze†in the U.S. and Europe (although the song is not really a rumba!).     Don Azpiazú and his Havana Casino Orchestra recorded the song for RCA Victor in 1930 with Antonio MachÃn on the vocal; its sales may well have been more than the million-plus sheet music copies sold.     English lyrics were added by L. Wolfe Gilbert and Marion Sunshine and the song became “The Peanut Vendor.† One estimate is that nearly 200 recordings have been made.  That’s a lot of peanuts.    Stan Kenton revived “The Peanut Vendor†in 1947 when he first recorded it for Capitol Records.  His version was completely instrumental.  Rhythm and saxophones opened the number and established the background; later the trombone section added emphasis.  A trombone solo first stated the melody but eventually the five-person trumpet section took over with what one writer referred to as “shrieking dissonances.† “The Peanut Vendor†subsequently became one of Kenton’s most requested numbers and he recorded it at least three more times.   This brass quintet arrangement, of course, has access to only two trumpets.  So the good news is that all five players get a chance with the melody.  Kenton’s extended opening trombone solo is shared by Trombone and Tuba.  The “shrieking dissonances†are performed not only by Trumpets but also by Horn in F and Trombone.  The bad news is that all five players have to take a turn with the continuing rhythmic background melody.  Written in 4/4 time, the suggested tempo is 184 BPM in a Latin style.  Kenton’s version is in B-flat major; this arrangement lowers it to A-flat major so that most notes are within the normal playing range of the instruments.  (Don’t worry; the “shrieking dissonances†are still there!)     Completed in 2023, performance time runs about 3 minutes, 37 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge.  He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms.  For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the Sheet Music Plus or Sheet Music Direct search box.  (Also, purchase of this piece entitles you to your choice of another of his arrangements at no charge; send a copy of your purchase receipt directly to him at lessmith61@bellsouth.net.).

Brass Ensemble Trombone,Trumpet - Level 4 - SKU: A0.813462 Composed by Johann Pachelbel. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Baroque,Concert,Standards,Wedding,World. Score and parts. 30 pages. Regis Bookshar #6264777. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813462). Canon in D (Pachelbel) (D) (Brass Quintet - 3 Trp, 2 Trb) - Advanced/Intermediate - . This selection, Johann Pachelbel's celebrated Canon, is perhaps the most famous canon ever written and has been one of my favorite compositions to arrange. A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon in D, was originally written in the key of D Major and was scored for three violins arranged in canon, accompanied by a basso continuo which repeats the same harmonic progression throughout the entire piece. The common musical term for this is ostinato or ground bass. Regis Bookshar has now arranged this music for a Brass Quintet consisting of 3 Trumpets and 2 Trombones. The three Trumpets play the melody in canon while the ostinato accompaniment is played by the two Trombones. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but could also be performed by professional performers. It is perfect for concerts and church services, especially for Weddings, but could be performed for any occasion. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (30 pages). This version is written in the key of D Major, as is the original version, but another version is also available, if you prefer, written in the key of Bb Major, to make it a little easier for some younger performers.. Other versions of Pachelbel's Canon in D have also been arranged by Regis Bookshar and are available for a wide variety of instrumental Quintets and Octets, in both the keys of D Major and Bb Major. I think that String players would probably prefer to play the versions in the key of D Major while the Brass and Woodwind musicians might prefer to play the Bb Major versions. I hope you take the time to compare the different versions to find the right version for you. To help you decide which version, or versions, you may want to choose, I have included several musical samples for you to listen to and to hear what these arrangements may sound like and so that you may compare the various arrangements. Also, just to let you know, the Octets written in the key of Bb Major have full-length recordings while the Octets in D Major and all Quintets have only the first 25 measures, or so, available to hear. Please feel free to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar which are also available. There are quite a few other arrangements in a variety of styles and I'm certain you will find something else which might interest you as well. Please keep checking because I plan to continue to add new arrangements as often as I can. I'm certain that this exciting arrangement of Pachelbel's Canon in D will be a challenge to some performers but will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

They may be 500 years old, but these three Renaissance instrumental dances from Tillman Susato's 1551 collection The Third Little Music Book, prefaced with to be played on all types of musical instruments, remain appealing music for audiences and performers. These lively popular dances of the day feature homophonic setting, root position chords, primary beat stresses, and individual parts that encompass an octave or less which makes them very accessible for young or inexperienced musicians. Scoring them for two antiphonal brass quartets, each with two B-flat trumpets and two trombones with alternate substitute horn parts, creates a memorable aural and visual performance experience. Regis Bookshar #775632. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1175498). Heroic Music - A Suite of Twelve Marches (Complete) - Georg Philipp Telemann - Brass Quintet - Intermediate - .Heroic Music (or Heldenmusik) is a suite of twelve short marches and processionals, written by Georg Philipp Telemann in 1728, and is associated with various attributes of Heroism such as Dignity, Bravery and Alertness. All twelve movements have now been transcribed and arranged by Regis Bookshar to be played by Trumpet Quintets or Brass Quintets. Some of them have also been arranged for Sextets, Septets, Octets, Nonets and Brass Choirs. Some also include a Timpani. They can be purchased individually, or, if you prefer, as a complete set of all twelve at a huge saving.Any of these selections would be a wonderful addition to any music library but this complete set would be fabulous. They are perfectly suited to recitals and public performances, can stand alone as short interludes and are generally well received by audiences. They are suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing these arrangements. These selections are some of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. In the past, these compositions have often been performed by a soloist playing on a Piccolo Trumpet, but these new arrangements are Bb Trumpet friendly as one player stated after reading through them, making them much easier for most high school students. This selection, Heroic Music - A Suite of Twelve Marches (Complete), contains all twelve movements. They are as follows: No.  1. La Majeste (associated with Dignity); No.  2. La Grace (associated with Grace); No.  3. La Vaillance (associated with Bravery); No.  4. La Tranquillite (associated with Composure); No.  5. L'Armement (associated with Rearmament); No.  6. L'Amour (associated with Love); No.  7. La Vigilance (associated with Alertness); No.  8. La Gaillardise (associated with Abandon); No.  9. La Douceur (associated with Gentleness); No. 10. La Generosite (associated with Magnanimity); No. 11. L'Esperance (associated with Hope); and No. 12. La Rejouissance (assocated with Joy). These selections are arranged for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 2 Bb Trumpets, 1 French Horn, 1 Trombone and 1 Tuba. There is also a version that has a Timpani on some movements, if you prefer. To hear samples of these selections you will need to search for each movement individually. I was not able to download such a large mp3 file. Included are scores and a complete set of parts (109 pages). These selections are readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of these compositions. You may find something else that may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there a numerous selections in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. Brass Ensemble Trombone,Trumpet - Level 3 - SKU: A0.813942 Composed by German Folk Song. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Christmas,Concert,Instructional,World. Score and parts. 8 pages. Regis Bookshar #6631141. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813942). Brass Quintet - Intermediate - . This arrangement of O Christmas Tree, or in German, O Tannenbaum, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for Christmas concerts and recitals, and, perhaps, even church services. It is equally suitable for junior and senior high school students and even older musicians. Depending on their ability, younger musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of part (8 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time.O Christmas Tree is a German Christmas song based on a traditional folk song which was unrelated to Christmas. The custom of the Christmas tree developed in the course of the 19th century, and the song came to be seen as a Christmas carol. The modern lyrics were written in 1824 by the Leipzig organist, teacher and composer, Ernst Anschutz. A tannenbaum is a fir tree. The lyrics do not actually refer to Christmas or describe a decorated tree. Instead, they refer to the fir's evergreen quality as a symbol of constancy and faithfulness. In this arrangement of O Christmas Tree, Regis Bookshar has kept the basic outline of this familiar song, but has inserted a short interlude, which brings to mind the sound of alphorns, or alpenhorns, instruments which may be made from red pine, or fir trees. and are used by mountain dwellers in the Bavarian Alps. I think that students will enjoy this imitative section in the song. In addition to this version for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 3 Trumpets and 2 Trombones, there are also other arrangements of O Christmas Tree available for a variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that might also suit your needs.I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a wide variety of styles, also available for purchase. Published by Will Corbin (A0.1460513). The Rudolph story begins in 1939, when Montgomery Ward asked Robert May, one of its ad copywriters, to come up with a kids' book for its Christmas shoppers. The result was the now-familiar red-nosed reindeer. (For those born in later generations, Mongomery Ward was a giant, like Sears, in the mail-order retail business. Kind of like Amazon without the Internet.) May's brother-in-law, Johnny Marks, turned it into a song a decade later. Gene Autry recorded it for Christmas in 1949, and it immediately hit No. 1 on the pop music charts. It was still there at the end of the first week of January, making it the first No. 1 hit of the 1950s.Its sales since then, including countless covers, have surpassed 150 million. Only White Christmas, among holiday songs, has sold more.If you need alternative instrumentation, I'm happy to accommodate. Contact me at wilcor@aol.com.

Published by Will Corbin (A0.1463555). A saxophonist was playing this catchy song outside New Orleans' Cafe du Monde one morning when I was visiting. When I figured out what the tune was, I was driven to arrange it for our quintet. The result is at least good for one illustration: If you thought you needed drums for calypso or Latin, think again. Horns work pretty well.Jazz tenor sax great Sonny Rollins wrote this, mostly as a vehicle for improvisation. It's based on a Bahamian folk melody called Sponger Money, which may or may not be based on a British folk song called The Lincolnshire Poacher. Whatever the case, it's a variation on a song Rollins' mother sang to him when he was a child in the Virgin Islands. This arrangement -- not as easy to play as it looks, because of the rhythms -- is for two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba. It's also perfect for the improv-impaired -- but can also serve as a framework for players who are good at it.If you need alternative instrumentation, please contact me at wilcor@aol.com.

Regis Bookshar #840537. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1249433). Three selections based on Christ lag in Todesbanden (Christ lay in death's bonds) (from Cantata No.  4, BMV  4) - Johann Sebastian Bach - Brass Quintet (2 Trps, 1 Hrn, 1 Trb, 1 Tuba) - Advanced/Intermediate - .Cantata No.  4, BMV  4, Christ lag in Todesbanden (also spelled Todes Banden) (Christ lay in death's bonds) is a cantata for Easter written by Johann Sebastian Bach and is his earliest surviving Church Cantata. It was probably written in 1707 when he was 22 years old. It is a Chorale Cantata, a style in which both the text and music are based on a hymn. In this instance, the source was Martin Luther's hymn of the same name which became a main Easter hymn in German Lutheranism.Regis Bookshar has transcribed and arranged three selections based on this hymn tune, two from Bach's Cantata No.  4, BMV  4, and also his Chorale Prelude, BMV 625. They may be played individually or as a trilogy and each movement is more complex than the previous one. The first selection in this trilogy is the Chorale, Christ lag in Todesbanden, the final chorus from his Cantata No.  4, a straighforward four-part setting of the hymn (Regis has also added a fifth part). This is followed by Bach's Chorale Prelude, BMV 625, a piece from his Orgelbuchlein (Little Organ Book), a collection of 46 Preludes for organ, written almost exclusively during the 1708-1717 period, while Bach was court organist at Weiman. For the final selection, Regis has placed the polyphonic and imitative chorus, Es war ein wunderlicher Krieg, da Tod und Leben rungen (It was a strange battle, that death and life waged), which Bach had placed in the middle of his Cantata No.  4.This arrangement is for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 2 Bb Trumpets, 1 French Horn, 1 Trombone and 1 Tuba. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (29 pages).I hope you will enjoy playing these selections and please search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar. There are numerous selections in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. I think you will be pleased with what you may find.

The first selection in this trilogy is the Chorale, Christ lag in Todesbanden, the final chorus from his Cantata No.  4, a straightforward four-part chorale setting of the hymn (Regis has also added a fifth part). This is followed by Bach's Chorale Prelude, BMV 625, a piece from his Orgelbuchlein (Little Organ Book), a collection of 46 Preludes for organ, written almost exclusively during the 1708-1717 period, while Bach was court organist at Weimar. For the final selection, Regis has placed the polyphonic and imitative chorus, Es war ein wunderlicher Krieg, da Tod und Leben rungen (It was a strange battle, that death and life waged), which Bach had placed in the middle of his Cantata No.  4.This arrangement is for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 3 Bb Trumpets, 1 Trombone and 1 Tuba. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (29 pages).I hope you will enjoy playing these selections and please search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar. There are numerous selections in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. I think you will be pleased with what you may find.
