Brass Quintet - Level 2 - SKU: A0.775294 Composed by George Gershwin, Arthur Francis. Arranged by Bill Wilson. Broadway,Musical/Show. 10 pages. Alexander Wilson #4796741. Published by Alexander Wilson (A0.775294). Tra-La-La, by master composer George Gershwin and lyricist Arthur Francis, is a cute little tune with occasional surprises. Tra-La-La was written for the 1922 Broadway show For Goodness Sake. However, it was never performed in that show. Almost 30 years later it was included in the movie An American in Paris. Our arrangement shares lead responsibilities between first trumpet, French horn, and trombone. Performance time is approximately 1:39. Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 1 - SKU: A0.1402823 Composed by Daniel Alomia Robles, Jorge Milchberg, and Paul Simon. Arranged by Alan Frazer (arranger) & Peet du Toit (orchestrator). Folk. 10 pages. Peet du Toit #986049. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1402823). This song started out as an Andean folk melody that Paul Simon came across in 1969 when he played a week-long engagement at a theater in Paris along with the South American group Los Incas, who played an instrumental version of the song called Paso Del Condor. Said Simon: I used to hang around every night to hear them play that. I loved it and I would play it all the time, and then I thought, Let's put words to it.The Peruvian songwriter Daniel Robles recorded this song in 1913, and copyrighted it in the United States in 1933 during his travels in America. When Simon recorded it with his added lyrics, he thought it was a traditional song, as that's what Los Incas told him. When Robles' son filed a lawsuit, Simon had to give Robles a composer credit on the song, with his estate getting those royalties. In discussing the song, Simon always talks about it as being based on a traditional Peruvian song, and we've never heard him mention Robles. This wasn't the first time Simon got tangled over songwriting credits on traditional melodies: Simon & Garfunkel's Scarborough Fair / Canticle was based on a folk song, but his arrangement came from a singer named Martin Carthy. Simon was always clear on his influences, but legal misunderstandings were a problem in these cases.Los Incas, who were the group that introduced Simon to the song, provided the instrumentation when they recorded it in Paris with Simon. Their leader, Jorge Milchberg, played a charango, which is an Andean string instrument made from the shell of an armadillo. Simon played acoustic guitar, and other members of Los Incas played flutes and percussion. When Simon brought the track to America, he added his lyrics. This was one of the easier songs to record for the Bridge Over Troubled Water album, since the backing track was already mixed together - it was just a matter of adding the vocals. The title translates to English as The Condor Passes. The lyrics Robles wrote to the song in 1913 are about returning home to his native Peru.Los Incas leader Jorge Milchberg got a composer credit on this song along with Simon and Robles. Milchberg later became the head of the group Urubamba and remained friends with Simon, who toured with them and produced their first American album. >>The Wainwright Sisters covered this for their 2015 Songs in the Dark album. Lucy Wainwright Roche explained to The Sun: I chose 'El Condor Pasa' because it was one of the first songs I ever learned to play on it guitar and it has a childlike quality to it, but it also has a darkness and sadness that fit in well with the album.Paul Simon performed this on both Sesame Street (in 1977) and The Muppet Show (in 1980).

Brass Quintet - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1243611 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Ander. Classical,Folk,March,Opera,Romantic Period. 11 pages. Woods Only, Arrangements #838578. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1243611). This arrangement adapted for brass quintet was written keeping the characteristics of the original work, in order to be performed by young music students who want to enter the symphonic music. Besides, it can also be used by professional musicians for recitals, repertoire, academic presentations and didactic material. The transcription remains faithful to the structure, with only one change in tone, so that it is comfortable for all the instruments in the formation, as well as being used as an activity in ensemble practice among musicians of different traditions.Beethoven's Turkish March (Op. 113) is the 4th movement of the operatic work: The Ruins of Athens, a set of incidental pieces written in 1812 by Ludwig van Beethoven, where the melody was originally written in 1809 as Theme with Six Variations for Piano, Op. 76. The work was written to accompany the play of the same name by August von Kotzebue, for the dedication of a new theater in Pest. Perhaps the best known part of the composition is the Marcia alla turca, In Latin America, this movement became known in Jean-Jacques Perrey's version (who titled it The Elephant never Forgets) since it was used as the opening theme of the successful Mexican TV comedy El Chavo del Ocho. The opening and the turkish march are often performed separately, and the other pieces in this set are not often heard.

Sammy Nestico did a terrific arrangement for big band.It was even sung by an American Idol contestant. She lost. Badly. This arrangement is adapted from an old stock Dixieland chart for mixed ensemble. If you need alternative instrumentation, I'm happy to accommodate. Contact me at wilcor@aol.com.

Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1149132). A classic arranged for Brass Quintet with optional drums. The chart features a fully written Louis style Trumpet solo. Enjoy!Hello, Dolly! is the title song of the popular 1964 musical of the same name. Louis Armstrong's version was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001.The music and lyrics were written by Jerry Herman, who also wrote the scores for many other popular musicals including Mame and La Cage aux Folles.History:Hello, Dolly! was first sung by Carol Channing, who starred as Dolly Gallagher Levi in the original 1964 Broadway cast. In December 1963, at the behest of his manager, Louis Armstrong made a demonstration recording of Hello, Dolly! for the song's publisher to use to promote the show. Hello, Dolly! opened on January 16, 1964, at the St. James Theatre in New York City, and it quickly became a major success. The same month, Kapp Records released Armstrong's publishing demo as a commercial single. His version reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, ending the Beatles' streak of 3 chart-topping hits in a row over 14 consecutive weeks. Hello Dolly! became the most successful single of Armstrong's career, followed by a Gold-selling album of the same name.[2] The song also spent nine weeks atop the adult contemporary chart shortly after the opening of the musical. The song also made Armstrong the oldest artist ever to reach No. 1 on the Hot 100 since its introduction in 1958. Billboard ranked the record as the No. 3 song of 1964, behind the Beatles' I Want to Hold Your Hand and She Loves You.Hello, Dolly! won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1965, and Armstrong received a Grammy for Best Vocal Performance, Male. Louis Armstrong also performed the song (together with Barbra Streisand) in the popular 1969 film Hello, Dolly!.Lyndon B. Johnson, often referred to by the moniker LBJ, used the tune, rechristened Hello, Lyndon!, as a campaign song for his run in the 1964 U.S. presidential election. This version of the song was performed by Carol Channing at that year's Democratic National Convention, and a recording was made by Ed Ames for distribution at the convention. The Sunflower controversy:Hello, Dolly! became caught up in a lawsuit which could have endangered plans for filming the musical. Mack David, a composer, sued for infringement of copyright, because the first four bars of Hello, Dolly! were the same as those in the refrain of David's song Sunflower from 1948. As he recounts in his memoirs, Herman had never heard Sunflower before the lawsuit, and wanted a chance to defend himself in court, but, for the sake of those involved in the show and the potential film, he reluctantly agreed to pay a settlement before the case would have gone to trial.

Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1158392 Composed by Dr. Daniel N. Thrower. 20th Century,Chamber,Classical,Patriotic. 19 pages. Https://gildedmusicpress.com/ #758673. Published by https://gildedmusicpress.com/ (A0.1158392). “Valor†offers a potent two-minute concert opener, or an attention grabber after intermission. It is also highly effective as an encore (depending on endurance, particularly of the first trumpeter and hornist), leaving the audience with a rush and energy typified by an effective encore. Besides some minor edits and formatting, the composition was completed the day I hit my ten-year anniversary of serving in the United States Air Force Bands—a fitting anthem to celebrate a decade of service to my wonderful country! The title settled the next day as I began my second decade as an Airman Musician: Valor. The best account is recorded in my personal journal on 27 April 2021: “[Valor] is the Thrower family motto from hundreds of years ago. It’s also a concept that helped get me into [Arizona State University] for my doctoral studies. [Professor] Hickman asked for a very difficult orchestral excerpt during my audition. [Béla Bartók’s “Concerto for Orchestra.â€] I expressed some trepidation, but decided to give it a shot. I nailed it! Then Hickman turned to me with a big smile, ‘I give extra points for valor!’ So I’m pretty sure this little two-minute musical journal entry will keep the name ‘Valor’… as a motivational cheer for my next ten years in the Air Force. Valor! Great courage in the face of danger, especially in battle. Ok, in the face of life’s many battles, Valor it is! And on to the next ten years!†The music is in AA’BA’ form. The B section is heavily influenced by the thematic material of the A section, but with a strongly contrasting mood that could be dubbed quiet dignity. A finale section follows the last A with some motivic twists from throughout the piece, decisively ending with a power that could well be accompanied by a dazzling flurry of fireworks. None of the performers get much of a reprieve throughout the two minutes packed full of notes. The first trumpet part stays in the upper mid-range for most of it, which would absolutely sparkle on an E-flat trumpet (alternate part provided). Second trumpet is also demanding. The horn part demands a decent level of mastery in the high range as well as the low range, vehemently forsaking its traditional role of off beats. The trombone and tuba parts also present their challenges, and never really stop longer than to take a breath. Although this work could conceivably be performed without percussion, doing so is strongly discouraged. The power delivered by the snare, bass, and cymbals, and even the triangle in the B section, make the part arguably indispensable.

By The Beatles. Arranged by Austin Ralphson. For Trumpet,Trombone,Tuba,Horn in F,Brass Quintet. Pop,Wedding,Recital. Advanced. Score,Set of Parts. 8 pages. Published by Austin Ralphson
This song was performed by the Beatles on Our World, the first live global television link; the BBC had commissioned the Beatles to write a song for the United Kingdom's contribution. Recorded in 1967, it had Lennon playing harpsichord, Paul McCartney on double bass, George Harrison on violin (an instrument he had never previously played), and Ringo Starr on drums, plus vocals, piano (played by their producer, George Martin), banjo (by Lennon), guitar and orchestral parts. The song has dramatic time changes and some unusual use of harmony. I have presented it here to work well as a small group arrangement.
