This arrangement for brass quintet is the short Bourre from Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks written in 1749 under contract of George II of Great Britain. The Bourre is a French dance taken from Spain in the 17th century. The dance starts with a pickup beat into a quick double-time dance with each subsequent phrase starting on the last beat of a four bar phrase. The dance itself is pleasant and carefree tune in a major key going to minor and back to major.This arrangement for brass provides a nice pleasant up beat selection that audiences or church goers will find pleasant to listen to. It also fills in nicely as an encore piece or opener for any concert.

Chaconne is the final movement of Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004, for solo violin. While many agree that Chaconne is a masterpiece for violin, it can certainly be argued that it is also among the greatest pieces of music ever written. Since Bach's time, several transcriptions of the piece have been made for other instruments, including inspired versions by Ferruccio Busoni (piano) and William Thomas Best (organ). This new arrangement, for brass quintet and organ, draws inspiration from both the Busoni and Best transcriptions. This demanding arrangement showcases the full color and dynamic range of the organ and each brass instrument, from delicate solo passages to heart-pounding power as brass and organ join forces.   Perfect for any recital, concert or pops program. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.810934). One of the most famous movements from The Messiah, features the Bb Trumpet and Tuba, Trombone or Euphonium on the solo parts. The bass part goes up to a high C above the staff several times, so the tuba must have a good high register. The trombone and tuba solo parts can be switched and the trombonist from the quintet can play the solo bass part on tenor trombone, bass trombone or Euphoniums. The tuba can then move to the trombone part, which is a low part anyway. This work is in the key of Bb, down a 3rd from the original and very playable. This transcription comes in two keys; the original in D (high) or in Bb (lower). In the lower key it can be played on Bb trumpet and is much easier on the solo bass part if played by the tubist. If played in the original key, an optional organ part can be added to the quintet for a very symphonic effect. This work is a must on a Brass Quintet Christmas or Easter Concert.

It is made up of the following pieces I have arrangements of all of them, for varying types of ensemble * Dies irae * Tuba mirum * Rex tremendae * Recordare * Confutatis * Lacrymosa I have also arranged Mozarts Motet “Ave Verum Corpus†K618 for varying types of instrumentation. Mvt.3 Rex tremundae summary A descending melody composed of dotted notes is played by to announce the Rex tremendae majestatis (King of tremendous majesty, i.e., God), who is called by powerful cries on the syllable Rex during the pauses. For a surprising effect, the Rex syllables fall on the second beats of the measures, even though this is the weak beat. The melodies adoptthe dotted rhythm, forming what Wolff calls baroque music's form of topos of the homage to the sovereign,or, more simply put, that this musical style is a standard form of salute to royalty, or, in this case, divinity. This movement consists of only 22 measures, but this short stretch is rich in variation: homophonic writing and contrapuntal passages alternate many times and finish on a quasi-unaccompanied choral cadence, landing on an open D chord (as seen previously in the Kyrie). Excellent fun for eery player.

Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792497). J. S. Bach’s massive work, The Art of Fugue, is a summation of his powers as a composer of contrapuntal music. Each fugue is a masterpiece in its own right. Number 15 is an unfinished four-voice, quadruple fugue. Only the first three subjects are introduced, the third being a chromatic subject built from the letters of Bach’s name-B (B-flat), A, C, H (B-natural). Just at the point where all three subjects are combined, the manuscript breaks off, and C. P. E. Bach wrote in the score that the composer has died. Bach clearly intended that the original Art of Fugue theme was to be the final subject and all four themes would combine in a glorious climax. Whether he intended to finish the work or leave it up to others to complete is conjecture. About 8 minutes in length.

Written in a Baroque melodic and harmonic language, this is a fine piece for either a processional, recessional, or offertory. Lots of melodic interplay between the brass and the organ, as well as interesting countermelodies, keeps the interest up from beginning to end.
